A dynamic model of a water heater system heated by a heat pump was developed. The water heater system was composed of heat pump and hot water reservoirs. Finite volume method (FVM) was applied to describe the heat exchangers. A new constraint on electronic expansion valve (EEV) or thermostatic expansion valve (TXV) that can control superheat after the evaporator was developed. Dynamic performances were evaluated for various sizes of the reservoir. In order to compare those performances, time scale was normalized by time constant representing the characteristics of reservoir size. Time constant was determined from quasi steady-state simulation of the system. From the simulation, the size of the water heater reservoir was found to have a large influence on the transient performance of the sys- tem. Therefore, the optimization of the reservoir size is needed in a design process.
The performance characteristics of a dynamic control system are evaluated according to the transient and steady-state responses. The transient performance is the controllability of the output for the tracking of the reference or the ability to reduce or reject the effects of unwanted disturbances; alternatively, the steady-state performance is represented by the magnitude of the control error at the steady state. As the effects of the two performances on each other are reciprocal, a controller design that shows a zero steady-state error for the ramp input is uncommon because of the challenge regarding the achievement of an acceptable transient response. This paper proposes a PI+double-integral controller for the elimination of the steady-state error for the ramp input while a sound transient performance is maintained. The control-gain design procedure is described by the second-order response for the step input and the response of the error dynamics for the ramp input. The PI+double-integral controller is designed for the first-order transfer function that is derived from a system identification with the open-loop experiment data of the dc-motor. The simple structure of the proposed controller enables the adoption of a low-end microcontroller for the implementation of a real-time control. The experiment results show that the control performance is as effective as that of the simulation analysis for the operating point of linear system; furthermore, the PI+double-integral controller can be conveniently applied to the control system, which is desirable for the improvement of the steady-state error.
The dynamic characteristics of a continuous MMA/MA free-radical solution copolymerization reactor were studied. A mathematical model was developed and kinetic parameters which had been estimated in the previous work were used. With this model, bifurcation diagrams were constructed with various parameters as the bifurcation parameter to predict the region of stable operating conditions and to enhance the controller performance. It was shown that the steady-state multiplicity existed over wide ranges of residence time and jacket inlet temperature. Periodic solution branches were found to emanated from Hopf bifurcation points. Under certain conditions isola was also observed, which would result in poor performance of feedback controllers.
This paper discusses a probabilistic method for power system security assessment. The security analysis relates to the ability of the electric power systems to survive sudden disturbances such as electric short circuits or unanticipated loss of system elements. It consists of both steady state and dynamic security analyses, which are not two separate issues but should be considered together. In steady state security analysis including voltage security analysis, the analysis checks that the system is operated within security limits by OPF (optimal power flow) after the transition to a new operating point. Until now, many utilities have difficulty in including dynamic aspects due to computational capabilities. On the other hand. dynamic security analysis is required to ensure that the transition may lead to an acceptable operating condition. Transient stability, which is the ability of power systems to maintain synchronism when subjected to a large disturbance. is a principal component in dynamic security analysis. Usually any loss of synchronism may cause additional outages and make the present steady state analysis of the post-contingency condition inadequate for unstable cases. This is the reason for the need of dynamic studies in power systems. Probabilistic criterion can be used to recognize the probabilistic nature of system components while considering system security. In this approach. we do not have to assign any predetermined margin of safety. A comprehensive conceptual framework for probabilistic static and dynamic assessment is presented in this paper. The simulation results of the Western System Coordinating Council (WSCC) system compare an analytical method with Monte-Carlo simulation (MCS).

The purpose of this study is to suggest the methods to model driver input and evaluate the handling performances of a vehicle by dynamic simulation using ADAMS (Automated Dynamic Analysis of Mechanical Systems) software. The driver input was modeled using the PID controller to follow the desired velocities and paths. The gains of the controller were decided by the trial and error methods aided by Ziegler-Nichols rule. It was successful to apply the rule for the vehicle model to follow the desired values of steady state cornering and lane change maneuver. As the results, handling performances of baseline and two variegated vehicles were evaluated. The theoretical provement was performed to explain the differences.

Instantaneous following PWM control technique is pulsed nonlinear dynamic control method. This new control technique using analog integrator is proposed to control the duty ratio D of do-dc converter. In this control method, the duty ratio of a switch is exactly equal In or proportional to the control reference in the steady state or in a transient. Proposed control method compensates power source perturbation in one switching cycle, and the average value of the dynamic reference in one switching cycle. There is no steady state error nor dynamic error between the control reference and the average value of the switched variable. Experiments with buck converter have demonstrated the robustness of the control method and verified theoretical prediction. The control method is very general and applicable to all type PWM

This paper presents a new continuation-based quasi-steady-state(CQSS) time-domain simulation algorithm incorporating a multiplicative aggregated load model for power systems. The authors' previous paper introduced a CQSS algorithm, which has the robust convergent characteristic near the singularity point due to the application of a continuation method. The previous CQSS algorithm implemented the load restoration in power systems using the exponent-based load recovery model that is derived from the additive dynamic load model. However, the reformulated exponent-based model causes the inappropriate variation of short-term load characteristics when switching actions occur, during time-domain simulation. This paper depicts how to incorporate a multiplicative load restoration model, which does not have the problem of deforming short-term load characteristics, into the time simulation algorithm, and shows an illustrative example with a 39-bus test system.
To elucidate the mineral cycles of potassium in a dynamic grassland ecosystem in a steady state condition, this investigation was cunducted along the northwest side on Mt. Kwanak. The exper-imental results may he summarized on communities of Z. japonica and M. sinensis as follows. As compared with some pronerties of the surface soils among two semi-natural grasslands, the levels of exchangeahle potassium were high in M. sinensis and low in Z. japonica. Contents of potassium for the litters of Z. japonica and M. sinensis were 1.69% and 2.51%, re-spectively. The annual production of potassium was 1.32 g /m$m^2$ in the Z. japonica grassland and 3. 08 g /m$m^2$in the M. sinensis grassland. For a case of steady production and release, the ratio of annual min- eral production to the amount accumulated on top of the mineral soil in a steady state provides estimates of the release constant k. The models of the release, accumulation and annual cycle of potassium in a grassland ecosystem are determined by the equation (1) to (3), respectively (Table 3). Since it requires a period of about each 0.693 /r, 3 /r and 5 /r years for the release and accumu-lation of 50, 95 and 99% of its steady-state level, the estimates for potassium in a dynamic grass-land ecosystem of Mt. Kwanak were 1.5, 6.6 and 11.0 years in the Z. japonica grassland, and were 2.7, 11.9 and 19.8 years in the M. sinensis grassland. The amounts of annual cycles for potassium in a grassland ecosystem under the steady-state conditions were 1.32 g /m$^2$ in the Z. japonica grassland and 3.08 g /$m^2$ in the M. sinensis grassland. Key words : ZQvsia japonica Ahscanthus sinensis, Mt. Kwanak, Potassium cycles.
