  • Most functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) studies in resting state have assumed that the functional connectivity (FC) between time series from distinct brain regions is constant. However, increased interest has recently been in quantifying possible dynamic changes in FC during fMRI experiments. FC study may provide insight into the fundamental workings of brain networks to brain activity. In this work, we focus on the specific problem of estimating the dynamic behavior of pairwise correlations between time courses extracted from two different brain regions. We compare the sliding-window techniques such as moving average (MA) and exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA), dynamic causality with vector autoregressive (VAR) model, dynamic conditional correlation (DCC) based on volatility, and the proposed alternative methods to use differencing and recursive residuals. We investigate the properties of those techniques in a series of simulation studies. We also provide an application with major depressive disorder (MDD) patient fMRI data to demonstrate studying dynamic correlations.

  • The paper deals with the numerical solution of the dynamic problem of masonry structures. Masonry is modelled as a non-linear elastic material with zero tensile strength and infinite compressive strength. Due to the non-linearity of the adopted constitutive equation, the equations of the motion must be integrated directly. In particular, we apply the Newmark or the Hilber-Hughes-Taylor methods implemented in code NOSA to perform the time integration of the system of ordinary differential equations obtained from discretising the structure into finite elements. Moreover, with the aim of evaluating the effectiveness of these two methods, some dynamic problems, whose explicit solutions are known, have been solved numerically. Comparisons between the exact solutions and the corresponding approximate solutions obtained via the Newmark and Hilber-Hughes-Taylor methods show that in the cases under consideration both numerical methods yield satisfactory results.

  • Pile driving formula, wave equation analysis of pile driving(WEAP) and dynamic pile loading test have been known to useful tools to appraise the behaviour of pile driving. This paper reviews basic theories of three methods and gives some suggestions to apply them to practice. And also some cases on application of the methods to the sites are discussed in this paper. It appears that it is inevitable for engineers to be experienced well so that the methods can be regarded as useful tools.

  • This article concerns dynamic graphical methods for visualizing a curvature in regression problem in which some predictors enter nonlinearly. A sequence of augmented partial residual plot or partial residual plot updated by the change of linear combination of two predictors are constructed. Examples demonstrate that the suggested methods can be used to reduce the dimension of explanatory variables as well as to capture a curvature.

  • It requires a great deal of efforts to maintain a distributed system. What is important here is that we should be able to upgrade/maintain a distributed system without stopping the system in operation. For this, what we need is a dynamic reconfigurable framework for highly available distributed systems. In this paper, we propose objects-hot-swapping methods as a solution to our problem. These methods permit us to dynamically upgrade/expand a system without stopping the system in operation. In addition, we analyze these methods and show that an approach based on proxy is the most efficient. Furthermore, we propose two proxy-based approaches: the first one based on the static proxy provides for a fast execution time but it is difficult to implement. The second one based on the dynamic proxy provides for a slow execution time but it is easier to implement. Finally, we propose a hot swapping framework for these static and dynamic proxy.

  • The purpose of this study is to find a method to improve geometry instruction. For this purpose, I have investigated aims and problems of geometry education. I also reviewed related literature about discovery methods as well as verification. Through this review, “Mathematising teaching and learning methods” by Freudenthal is Presented as an alternative to geometry instruction. I investigated the capability of dynamic software for realization of this method. The result of this investigation is that dynamic software is a powerful tool in realizing this method. At last, I present one example of mathematic activity using dynamic software that can be used by school teachers.

  • In this paper, modeling methods for 2D joints are proposed. Earlier methods for modeling 2D joints that use geometric relationships may not consider irregularities or dynamic effects of joints. In any case, it is important to consider irregularities or dynamic effects. To consider those, methods that use dynamic contacts are proposed. With the method, 2D joints that have irregularities or dynamic effects amy be model- ed and analyzed. 2D joints that are developed are revolute, translational, gear and point-follower joint.

  • The paper deals with the applications of spectral finite element method to the dynamic analysis of framed foundations supporting high speed machines. Comparative performance of approximate dynamic stiffness methods formulated using static stiffness and lumped or consistent or average mass matrices with the exact spectral finite element for a three dimensional Euler-Bernoulli beam element is presented. The convergence of response computed using mode superposition method with the appropriate dynamic stiffness method as the number of modes increase is illustrated. Frequency proportional discretisation level required for mode superposition and approximate dynamic stiffness methods is outlined. It is reiterated that the results of exact dynamic stiffness method are invariant with reference to the discretisation level. The Eigen-frequencies of the system are evaluated using William-Wittrick algorithm and Sturm number generation in the $LDL^T$ decomposition of the real part of the dynamic stiffness matrix, as they cannot be explicitly evaluated. Major's method for dynamic analysis of machine supporting structures is modified and the plane frames are replaced with springs of exact dynamic stiffness and dynamically flexible longitudinal frames. Results of the analysis are compared with exact values. The possible simplifications that could be introduced for a typical machine induced excitation on a framed structure are illustrated and the developed program is modified to account for dynamic constraint equations with a master slave degree of freedom (DOF) option.

  • This paper is concerned with the comparison of substructure synthesis methods based on global and local coordinates. The substructure synthesis methods based on the global coordinates were first proposed for the dynamic analysis of complex structure and the substructure synthesis method based on the local coordinates was proposed to solve the dynamic problem of tree-like structure. However, the conceptual difference between two methods in solving the dynamic problem has never been explained. In this paper, a structure consisting of two beams is considered to show the conceptual difference of two methods. The dynamic formulation shows the characteristics and differences of two methods explicitly. The procedure for choosing proper substructure modes in each method is also explained in detail. In addition, the advantage of the substructure synthesis method based on the local coordinate system is discussed based on the numerical example. Numerical examples show how two methods are applied to the addressed problem.
