  • The recent manufacturing process in the thin wafers and flat panel necessitate new approaches to reduce handling fragile and surface-sensitive damage of components. This paper presents a new pneumatic levitation for non-contact handling of parts and substrates. This levitation can achieve non-contact handling by blowing air into an air pressure pick-up head with radial passages to generate a negative pressure region. Negative pressure is caused by the radial air flow by nozzle throat and through holes connecting to the bottom region. The numerical analysis deals with the levitational motion with different design factors. The dynamic motion is examined in terms of force balance(dynamic equilibrium) occurring to the flow field between two objects. The stable equilibrium position and the safe separation distance are determined by analyzing the local pressure distribution in the fluid motion. They make considerable design factors consisting the air pressure pick-up head. As a result, in case that the safe separation distance is beyond 0.7mm, the proposed pick-up head can levitate stably at the equilibrium position. Furthermore, it can provide little effect of torque, and obtain more wide picking region according to the head size.

  • In this paper, we investigate the acoustic characteristics of sustained voices from normal subjects and patients with laryngeal pathologies. Perturbation methods (including jitter and shimmer), signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), and nonlinear dynamic methods (such as correlation dimension) are used to analyze normal and pathological voices. We find that jitter does not statistically discriminate between normal and pathological voices, but a significant difference is found for shimmer, SNR, and correlation dimension. The results suggest that nonlinear dynamic analysis may be valuable for the analysis of normal and pathological voices but perturbation analysis should be applied with caution for pathological voice analysis.

  • This paper presents a novel approach for facial motion tracking and facial expression cloning to create a realistic facial animation of a 3D avatar. The exact head pose estimation and facial expression tracking are critical issues that must be solved when developing vision-based computer animation. In this paper, we deal with these two problems. The proposed approach consists of two phases: dynamic head pose estimation and facial expression cloning. The dynamic head pose estimation can robustly estimate a 3D head pose from input video images. Given an initial reference template of a face image and the corresponding 3D head pose, the full head motion is recovered by projecting a cylindrical head model onto the face image. It is possible to recover the head pose regardless of light variations and self-occlusion by updating the template dynamically. In the phase of synthesizing the facial expression, the variations of the major facial feature points of the face images are tracked by using optical flow and the variations are retargeted to the 3D face model. At the same time, we exploit the RBF (Radial Basis Function) to deform the local area of the face model around the major feature points. Consequently, facial expression synthesis is done by directly tracking the variations of the major feature points and indirectly estimating the variations of the regional feature points. From the experiments, we can prove that the proposed vision-based facial expression cloning method automatically estimates the 3D head pose and produces realistic 3D facial expressions in real time.

  • With respect to the researches of the optical flying head(OFH) , the head-gimbal assembly should be analyzed to guarantee the stable fabrication and the characteristics of shock resistance. The suitable design is proved through the Probabilistic analysis of the design parameters and material properties of the model. Probabilistic analysis is a technique that be used to assess the effect of uncertain input parameters and assumptions on your analysis model. Using a probabilistic analysis you can find out how much the results of a finite elements analysis are affected by uncertainties in the model. Another factor is analysis of the dynamic shock analysis. For the mobile application, one of the important requirements is durability under severe environmental condition, especially, resistance to mechanical shock. An important challenge in the disk recording is to improve disk drive robustness in shock environments. If the system comes in contact with outer shock disturbance. the system gets critical damage in head-gimbal assembly or disk. This paper describes probabilistic and dynamic shock analysis of head-gimbal assembly in micro MO drives using OFH slider.

  • This paper describes a study on dynamic characteristics analysis and dynamic compliance evaluation of a 5-axis multi-tasking machine tool of ram-head type. Structural dynamics analysis and evaluation are necessary to machine tool design and development to secure good machine tool performance against tough and harsh machining conditions. In this study, natural frequencies and corresponding vibration modes of the machine tool structure were analyzed by using both F.E.M. modal analysis and impulse hammer test. Furthermore, dynamic compliance of the machine tool was analyzed by using F.E.M. and also measured by using a hydraulic exciter test. Both the theoretical analysis and experimental test results showed good agreement with each other.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted in order to compare the ability to control postural sway during perturbation when stroke patients received postural sway induced by head rotation. Methods: This study included 15 stroke patients and 15 healthy adults. Each group was measured by 3D motion analysis for determination of the angle of the neck in static position and by balance performance monitor for estimation of swaying angle in both neutral posture and head rotation position. These results were then analyzed in order to compare the healthy control group and the stroke patients group. Results: In both static posture ($60.7{\pm}4.81$) and dynamic posture ($51.46{\pm}6.87$, $70.8{\pm}6.55$), significant decreases were observed in the angle of head rotation of the patient group, compared to the healthy group (p<0.05), and significant decreases were observed in the sway angle of the patient group when in the neutral position ($3.62{\pm}7$, $24{\pm}0.60$) and head rotation ($3.04{\pm}0.80$, $51.46{\pm}6.87$), compared to the healthy group (p<0.05). Conclusion: According to these findings, patients with stroke tend to restrict the ROM of head rotation and swaying angle in dynamic posture and maintain their posture instability using limitation of head movement relative to the trunk and sway angle of area which is larger than that of affected side in unaffected side.

  • In the pneumatic system, pneumatic cylinder is wildly used to factory automation. In general, Pneumatic cylinder problems are occured with colliding to stroke end part at which piston collide to end-cap, head cap and tube when piston is loading. This appearances have a short life of cylinder and is due to system destruction. This study examines the dynamic characteristics of pneumatic cushioning cylinder and cushion sleeve design. At head part cushion chamber for the vertical experimental, The decisions of cushioning effect and the results of the experimental research are obtained to the followings: i) The cushioning effects could acqure to the reserch, if the compressible energy is more than kinetic ones. ii) The collision of piston and head cover could acqure to the research, if the kinetic energy is more than compressible iii) If the load increase to the rolling car, the cushion region pressures would increase and the dynamic force.
