The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of strengthening and stretching exercises on forward head angle and static dynamic balance ability. 21 adults with the forward head posture were participated in this study. Subjects were randomly assigned to strengthening exercise group I(n=11) and stretching exercise group II (n=10) respectively. Each group were underwent six intervention over the period of 2 weeks, each session lasting 30 minutes. During a preliminary examination, forward head angle and static dynamic balance were measured, and a post examination was conducted that involved same procedure as preliminary examination. There were significant differences in forward head angle after exercise in both groups. In the strengthening group, center of gravity total sway distances was significantly changed under all conditions. In the stretching group, center of gravity total sway distances was significantly changed when subjects had their eyes open while standing on an foam surface. There were significant changes in center of gravity sway velocities in the strengthening group under all conditions, and the same was true in the stretching group only when the subjects had their eyes open while standing on an foam surface. In the comparison between groups, eyes closed while standing on a firm surface was significantly different. There was a significant difference in dynamic balance of the stretching group when the subjects tilted their bodies forward, and there was a statistically significant difference between groups under the same condition. The results of this study suggest that forward head posture can be corrected through therapeutic exercise, and muscle strengthening exercise more effective in improving static balance of forward head posture more than stretching exercise.

Recently, due to demands of faster speed and extra features for the chip mounters, there has been ever-demanding needs for the basic technology. Until four or five years ago, chip mounters placing 0.3sec/chip were considered to be in the high speed category, but since then it has become a borderline for categorizing high speed machines capable of placing 0.1sec/chip. In this study, in order to analyze the vibration of head generated by the dynamic behavior of x-frame, FEM model is composed and modal analysis is performed to identify the dynamic characteristics of the structure. Those results are compared with the modal test in order to verify the model. In this paper, Several other factors, such as definition of dynamic accuracy, static accuracy and tolerance of the axis settling range, that might affect the dynamic behavior the head are discussed.

The dynamic response of the head arm assembly (HAA) of a hard disk drive to an impact load was obtained from a 3D non-linear finite element model using ANSYS/LS-DYNA and from experiments using a modified levitation mass method (LMM). In the finite element model, the impact load was created by modeling the mass as a rigid body and making it collide with the HAA. The velocity, displacement, acceleration, and inertial force of the mass were then obtained from the time history data of the finite element analysis. In the LMM, a mass that was levitated with an aerostatic linear bearing, and hence encountered negligible friction, was made to collide with the actuator arm, resulting in a dynamic bending test for the arm. During the collision, the Doppler frequency shift of the laser beam reflected from the mass was accurately measured with an optical interferometer. The velocity, displacement, acceleration, and inertial force of the mass were accurately calculated from the measured time-varying Doppler frequency shift. A good correlation between the experimental data and FEA results was observed. The FEA was also used to investigate the dynamic response of the HAA to impact by different masses.

In most experimental researches on the liquefaction phenomenon, an earthquake as a random vibration has been regraded as a sinusoidal wave or a triangular wave with an equivalent amplitude. Together with the development in the part of signal control and data acquisition, dynamic experimental equipments in the soil dynamics have also developed rapidly and further more, several real earthquakes have been simulated in the large model test such as shaking table tests and centrifuge tests. In Korea, several elementary laboratory tests to simulate the real earthquake load were performed. From these test results, it was reported that the sinusoidal wave cannot reliably reflect the soil dynamic behavior under the real earthquake motion. In this study, 4 types of dynamic motions such as the sinusoidal wave, the triangular wave, the incremental triangular wave and several real earthquake motions which were classified with shock-type and vibration-type were loaded to find something new to explain the change of the excess pore water pressure under the real earthquake load. Through the detailed investigation and comparison on all test results, it is found that the dynamic flow is generated by the soil plastic deformation and the velocity head of dynamic flow is changed the pressure head in the un-drained condition. It can be concluded that the change of the excess pore water pressure is related to the pressure head of dynamic flow. Lastly, a new hypothesis to explain such a liquefaction initiation phenomenon under the real earthquake load is also proposed and verified.

We have developed a method to evaluate pumping rates from a system of pumping-well family. For a given system actual pumping rates depend on pump characteristics and the sum of the static head and the dynamic head. The static head is the elevation difference between the natural groundwater level and the outlet of the pipeline that connects all the wells. Major components of the dynamic head are groundwater drawdown in the well and pipeline head loss. The dynamic head and the pump characteristics depend on the pumping rates. Actual pumping rates are determined at the intersections of the system total-head curves and the pump characteristic curves. The Newton-Raphson's method is used to solve the nonlinear simultaneous equations. The method is applied to a hypothetical well family. Impacts of various design and operational parameters on the pumping rates are analyzed.

To improve the accuracy of the standard penetration test (SPT) results, smart measurement system, which considers the energy transfer ratio into the sampler (ETRSampler), is required. The objective of this study is to evaluate the effects of joints and rod length on the transferred energy into the sampler. The energy transfer ratios into the rod head (ETRHead) and ETRSampler, and the energy ratio from the head to the sampler (ERHS) were obtained using energy modules, which were installed at the rod head and above the SPT sampler. Linear regression analyses are conducted to correlate the ERHS with the number of joints, rod length, and SPT N-values. In addition, the dynamic resistances are calculated using both transferred energies into the rod head and into the sampler, and are compared with the corrected cone tip resistance measured from the cone penetration test (CPT). While the ETRHead are generally constant, but the ETRSampler and ERHS gradually decrease along the depth or the number of joints, except at certain depths with high SPT N-values. Thus, the ERHS can be estimated using the number of joints, rod length, and SPT N-values. The dynamic resistance evaluated by ESampler produces a better correlation with the corrected cone tip resistance than that by EHead. This study suggests that transferred energy into the SPT sampler may be effectively used for more accurate subsurface characterization.

Optimal shape of the NFR suspension is studied and developed to improve the dynamic performance and reduce the vibration of the suspension system including a optical head slider. Since accurate position control and stability of the slider motion are highly required in NFR due to the narrower track width and the heavier slider than HDD slider with the low flying height, the dynamic characteristics of the suspension are very important to the mechanical performance of the system. The first natural frequencies in flexural and lateral motion of the suspension are critical factors affecting the dynamics and stability of the flying head, so that the dynamic parameters should be designed properly to avoid an excessive vibration or a crash of the slider on the disk. This paper optimizes the shape of the suspension based on homogenization method in NASTRAN and develops a new suspension shape for NFR system. The suspension is tested on experiment to verify the improvement of the dynamic characteristics.

This study proposes a design methodology to determine the optimum configurations of the optical flying head (OFH) for near-field recording systems. Since the OFH requires stricter static and dynamic characteristics of slider air-bearings within an optical tilt tolerance over the entire recording band, an optimum design to keep the focusing and tracking ability stable is essential. The desired flying characteristics considered in this study are to minimize the variation in flying height between the SIL and the disk from a target value, satisfying the restriction of the minimum flying height, to keep the pitch and roll angles within an optical tilt tolerance, and to ensure a higher air-bearing stiffness. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed design methodology by showing that the static and dynamic flying characteristics of the optimally designed OFH are enhanced in comparison with those of the initial. The gap between the SIL and the disk can be kept at less than 100 nm even if the optical tilt tolerance of the SIL is considered.

Loading/Unloading(L/UL) mechanism has been considered to be an alternative to contact start-stop(CSS) mechanism which eliminates stiction and wear associated with frequent start and stop process. It has other advantages including increased areal density due to lower flying height, reduced power consumption, and improved shock resistance. In order for L/UL to be Implemented in Near-field recording system properly, dynamics of optical flying head must be understood and optimized. In this paper the dynamic characteristics during loading process is analyzed numerically to investigate the effect of design parameters such as loading speed. slider shape, and initia conditions on the dynamic reponses of flying head..
A numerical human head/neck model was constructed for analyzing the implication in decleration injuries. This model consists of nine rigid bodies representing the head, cervical vertebrae C1-C7, and T1. These rigid bodies were connected by intervertebral disks described by massless beam elements. Muscles and ligaments were also incoperated in the model represented by nonlinear spring and viscoblastic element respectively Agreement of the analytical kinematic response with the results of experimental data from a volunteer run was satisfactory. Moreover, possible injury estimation from the calculated moment, force variations in the disc, and force variation in ligaments matched well with clinical observations.
