An Energy-Efficient Sensor Network Clustering Using the Hybrid Setup (하이브리드 셋업을 이용한 에너지 효율적 센서 네트워크 클러스터링)

  • Cluster-based routing is high energy consumption of cluster head nodes. A recent approach to resolving the problem is the dynamic cluster technique that periodically re-selects cluster head nodes to distribute energy consumption of the sensor nodes. However, the dynamic clustering technique has a problem that repetitive construction of clustering consumes the more energies. This paper proposes a solution to the problems described above from the energy efficiency perspective. The round-robin cluster header(RRCH) technique, which fixes the initially structured cluster and sequentially selects cluster head nodes, is suggested for solving the energy consumption problem regarding repetitive cluster construction. A simulation result were compared with the performances of two of the most widely used conventional techniques, the LEACH(Low Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy) and HEED(Hybrid, Energy Efficient, Distributed Clustering) algorithms, based on energy consumption, remaining energy for each node and uniform distribution. The evaluation confirmed that in terms of energy consumption, the technique proposed in this paper was 26.5% and 20% more efficient than LEACH and HEED, respectively.

Cement Augmentation of Dynamic Hip Screw to Prevent Screw Cut Out in Osteoporotic Patients with Intertrochanteric Fractures: A Case Series

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to describe a method of inserting cement in the femoral head before fixation with dynamic hip screw to prevent screw cut out due to osteoporosis and to evaluate its clinical outcome in these patients. Materials and Methods: In this prospective study, 30 patients aged 60 years and older with intertrochanteric fracture were included. Bone mineral density was measured. After reaming of the femoral head and neck with a triple reamer and polymethyl methacrylate, bone cement was introduced into the femoral head using a customized nozzle and a barrel fitted on a cement gun. A Richard screw was inserted and the plate was fixed over the femoral shaft. Patients were mobilized and clinical outcomes were rated using the Salvati and Wilson's scoring system. Results: More patients included in this study were between 66 and 70 years old than any other age group. The most common fracture according to the Orthopaedic Trauma Association classification was type 31A2.2 (46.7%). The T-score was found to be $-2.506{\pm}0.22$ (mean${\pm}$standard deviation); all patients were within the range of -2.0 to -2.8. The duration of radiological union was $13.67{\pm}1.77$ weeks. Salvati and Wilson's scoring at 12 months of follow up was $30.96{\pm}4.97$. The majority of patients were able to perform their normal routine activities; none experienced implant failure or screw cut out. Conclusion: Bone cement augmentation may effectively prevent osteoporosis-related hardware complications like screw cut out in elderly patients experiencing intertrochanteric fractures.

  • The suspension is a structure that supports reading, writing head in information storage device. In order to develop the information storage device of high track density, it is necessary to study about the suspension. To satisfy operation condition of information storage device, the suspension shape is very important since it correlates to dynamic characteristics. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the dynamic characteristics by using finite element analysis and to optimize the suspension of information storage device using size optimization and topology optimization. The suspension has various modes according to different kinds of frequency bandwidth. Sway mode and second torsion mode are especially critical among them. In this paper, we investigated method to improve bandwidth of sway and second torsion mode of HDD and ODD suspension by using size optimization and topology optimization.

Process -dynamic Model for Stock-fluid in a Pressurized Paper Machine Headbox (초지기 가압-헤드박스 내 지료유체의 공정-동특성모델)

  • Mathematical modeling provided a systematic analysis for the dynamic behavior of stock fluid in a paper machine pressurized headbox. Dynamic responses of liquid level, sheet basis weight and hydraulic pressure were predicted from the simulation model which represents the system. A unit step and asinusoidal wave load were considered as the input forcing functions in the headbox. Results are summarized as follows : 1. The dependence of sheet basis weight on liquid level in the pressurized-headbox was non -linear. 2. Liquid level in the head-box showed first-order lag with a unit step forcing to fluid input rate ; 3 . The amplitude of wave response of liquid level was inversely proportional to the time content for the sinusoidal input changes ; 4.Sheet basis weight showed second-order oscillating underamped responses for the step input load of flow rate ; 5. The damping factor in the second-order system was a function of air-pressure in the headbox ; and, 6. Dead-time existed in the measuring process for the headbox slice pressure.

  • Feeder arrangement is an important element of process planning for printed circuit board assembly systems. This paper newly proposes a feeder arrangement method for multihead-gantry chip mounters. The multihead-gantry chip mounters are very popular in printed circuit board assembly system, but the research has been mainly focused on single-head-gantry chip mounters. We present an integer programming formulation for optimization problem of multihead-gantry chip mounters, and propose a heuristic method to solve the large NP-complete problem in reasonable time. Dynamic programming method is then applied to feeder arrangement optimization to reduce the overall assembly time. Comparative simulation results are finally presented to verify the usefulness of the proposed method.

Dynamic Research of a Potential Carrier for Hydrophobic Compound Model Pyrene Using Amphiphilic Peptide EYK

  • In recent years, the study of self-assembly peptide used in drug delivery system has been attracted great interest from scientists. In the category are self-assembly peptides in the structure either with one hydrophobic surface and another hydrophilic or a hydrophobic head and a hydrophilic tail. Here, we focus on a novel designed peptide EYK with double amphiphilic surfaces, investigating on the capability of peptide as a carrier for hydrophobic compound model pyrene. The fluorescence data presented the dynamic process of the transfer, showing that the pyrene was in the crystalline form in peptide solution, and molecularly migrated from its peptide encapsulations into the membrane bilayers when the peptide-pyrene suspension was mixed with liposome vesicles. The results indicated that the peptide EYK could stabilize hydrophobic pyrene in aqueous solution and delivered it into EPC liposome as a potential carrier.

The analysis of the dynamic response between the pantograph and overhead wire (고속열차 주행을 위한 판토그래프와 가선시스템과의 동적응답 해석)

  • The development of the European railway high speed network brings new problems related to the interoperability across the railways of different countries. The pantograph and the overhead wire form a dynamic coupled system and they affect each other through the contact force. Unfortunately, as the operational speed of a train increases, the vibration of the pantograph and the overhead wire also increases. This may lead to a zero contact force between the pantograph head and the overhead wire, which can results in the loss of contact, arching and abrasion. If the arching and spark happen between the pantograph and the overhead catenary system, the EMI(electro magnetic interface) and noises may occur. After an, the quality of current collection is deteriorated. This paper describes the dynamic response between the pantograph and catenary system by the numerical simulations and predicts the possibility of operating the high speed train in the conventional lines.

  • Steering system is typically one of the vehicle parts that may injure an unrestrained driver in a frontal collision. Therefore, the engineers of vehicle safety parts researched the allowable injury criteria such as HIC(head injury criterion). chest acceleration and knee impact force. From their research, they recognized that development of energy absorbing steering system was necessary to protect the driver. Energy absorbing parts of steering system consist of shear capsule, ball sleeve and shaft assembly. We performed the modelling and dynamic analysis of the energy absorbing steering column with the unrestrained driver model. The conclusions of this study are as follows. 1) The variation of column angle has an important effects on the dynamic responses of steering system and driver behavior. 2) The energy absorbing steering system satisfies the safety criterion of FMVSS 203, 208, but not the safety criterion of FMVSS 204.

Model of dynamic clustering-based energy-efficient data filtering for mobile RFID networks

  • Data filtering is an essential task for improving the energy efficiency of radiofrequency identification (RFID) networks. Among various energy-efficient approaches, clustering-based data filtering is considered to be the most effective solution because data from cluster members can be filtered at cluster heads before being sent to base stations. However, this approach quickly depletes the energy of cluster heads. Furthermore, most previous studies have assumed that readers are fixed and interrogate mobile tags in a workspace. However, there are several applications in which readers are mobile and interrogate fixed tags in a specific area. This article proposes a model for dynamic clustering-based data filtering (DCDF) in mobile RFID networks, where mobile readers are re-clustered periodically and the cluster head role is rotated among the members of each cluster. Simulation results show that DCDF is effective in terms of balancing energy consumption among readers and prolonging the lifetime of the mobile RFID networks.

Simplified model to study the dynamic behaviour of a bolted joint and its self loosening

  • Bolted joints are essential elements of mechanical structures and metal constructions. Although their static behaviour is fairly well known, their dynamic behaviour due to shocks and vibrations has been less studied, because of the large size of the finite element models needed for a detailed simulation. This work presents four different simplified models suitable for studying the dynamic behaviour of an elementary bolted joint. Three of them include contact elements to allow sliding of the screw head and the nut on the assembled parts, and the last one allows rotation between screw and nut. A penalty approach based on the Coulomb friction model is used to model contact. The results show that these models effectively represent the dynamic behaviour, with different accuracy depending on the model details. The last model simulates the self loosening of a bolt subjected to transversal vibrations.
