This study was conducted to examine the fatigue phenomenon of mechanical properites in denim fabrics for slacks during repeated shear and tensile deformation by analysing the change in the basic dynamic properties of fabrics on the basic of experiments to obtain the basic data necessary to measure their fatigue. In addition, this study was carried out by allowing these denim fabrics at market to go through the repeated deformation under such different loads as 500 gf/cm2 and 1000 gf/cm2 by using a simulated fatigue tester, by calculating both dynamic properties and hand value (HV) of these fabrics with KES-F system and then by obtaining the THV through these calculated properties. The results are as follows: 1 The fatigue phenomenon of dynamic properties was remarkably shown by the repeated shear and tensile deformation, while the increase of hysterical plastic substances was also remarkable in these shearing and bending properties. 2. The elasticity values of tensile, bending and compression properties, such as, B and G were reduced: whereas RT and RC values increased. It was shown, then, that those fabrics lost their elasticity and became flexible and soft with the increase of fatigue. 3. The fatigue phenomenon of hand value also showed that those fabrics became soft in relation with the change of all dynamic properties, and that their performance was also change to flexible hand value. 4. TRhe degree of fatigue was also shown by the loads given to the repeated deformation. It was shown that the fatigue was higher for the tensile load of 1000 gf/cm3 than did the standard load of 500 gf/cm3 It is necessary, therefore, to consider the load in accordance with their usage when examining the fatigue phenomenon with respect to the dynamic properties of clothing materials. 5. The loads were nearly not influenced by the change in the general hand value tended to show a little of increase with the increase of fatigue, Based on those results, it seems that the fatigue phenomonon is related to the loads given to the repeated deformation.
The high temperature deformation behavior of Al 5083 alloy has been studied in the temperature range of 350 to 520 ${\circ}C$ and strain rate range of 0.2 to 3.0/sec by torsion test. The strain rate sensitivity(m) of the material was evaluated and used for estabilishing power dissipation maps following the dynamic material model. These maps show the variation of efficiency of power dissipation(${\eta}$=2m/(2m+1)) with temperature and strain rate. Hot restoration of dynamic recrystallization (DRX) was analyzed from the flow curve, deformed microstructure, and processing maps during hot deformation. Also, the effect of deformation strain on the efficiency of power dissipation of the alloy was analysed using the processing maps. Moreover relationship between the hot-ductility and efficiency of power dissipation of the alloy depending on thmperature and strain rate was studied using the Zener-Hollomon parameter(Z=${\varepsilon}$exp(Q/RT) It is found that the maximum efficiency of power dissipation for DRX in Al 5083 alloy is about 74.6 pct at the strain of 0.2. The strain rate and temperature at which the efficiency peak occurred in the DRX domain is found to be ∼0.1/sec and ∼450${\circ}C$ respectively.
To minimize the leakage of microwave which can occur when one pulls the door of a microwave oven during its operation, shape optimization of the door frame is presented. A numerical optimization is implemented to minimize the dynamic twisting deformation of the door frame. Shape design variables are defined, which represent the dimension of the bead in the flange. Two optimal design problems are established to minimize the maximum twisting deformation from harmonic response analysis. The problems are solved, their results being compared and evaluated.
This paper presents a Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar(SHPB) technique to obtain compressive stress-strain data for rubber materials. An experimental technique that modifies the conventional Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar(SHPB) has been developed for measuring the compressive stress-strain responses of materials with low mechanical impedance and low compressive strengths such as rubber. This paper introduces an all-polymeric pressure bar which achieves a closer impedance match between the pressure bar and the specimen materials. In addition, we are a pulse shaper to lengthen the rising time of the incident wave to ensure stress equilibrium and homogeneous deformation of a rubber materials. It is found that the modified technique can be determine the dynamic deformation behavior of an NBR rubber more accurately.
The homogenization method is applied to maximize crash energy absorption for a given volume. Optimization analysis off closed-hat type example problem is conducted with different impact velocities and thicknesses. The results show that the bending-type deformation for the original design is changed to the folding-type deformation for a new design with a hole, which is partly due to the increase of the crash energy absorption for the new design. Dynamic mean crushing loads of the original and new design are compared with those by the theoretical equation by Wierzbicki. It shows that the dynamic mean crushing loads of new designs are very close to those by Wierzbicki's equation.
Hot deformation behavior of A350 LF2 alloy was characterized by compression tests in the temperature range of 800-$1250^{\circ}C$ and the strain rate range of $0.001-10s^{-1}$. The microstructural evolution during hot compression was investigated and deformation mechanisms were analyzed by constructing processing map. Processing maps were generated using the dynamic material model (DMM). The combination of dynamic material model and Ziegler's instability criterion was applied to predict an optimum condition and unstable regions for hot forming.
In the present study, the flow-softening behavior occurring during high temperature deformation of AZ31 Mg alloy was investigated. Flow softening of AZ31 Mg alloy was attributed to (1) thermal softening by deformation heating and (2) microstructural softening by dynamic recrystallization. Artificial neural networks method was used to derive the accurate amounts of thermal softening by deformation heating. A series of mechanical tests (High temperature compression and load relaxation tests) was conducted at various temperatures ($250^{\circ}C{\sim}500^{\circ}C$) and strain rates ($10^{-4}/s{\sim}100/s$) to formulate the recrystallization kinetics and grain size relation. The effect of DRX kinetics on microstructure evolution (fraction of recrystallization) was evaluated by the unified SRX/DRX (static recrystallization/dynamic recrystallization) approaches
The high temperature deformation behavior of SCM 440 can be characterized by the hot torsion test in the temperature ranges of $900^{\circ}C$~$1100^{\circ}C$ and strain rate ranges of 0.05/sec~5/sec. The aim of this paper is to establish the quantitative equation of the volume fraction of dynamic recrystallization (DRX) as a function of processing variables, such as strain rate ($\varepsilon$), temperature (T), and strain ('$\varepsilon$). During hot deformation, the evolution of microstructure could be analyzed from work hardening rate ($\theta$). For the exact prediction of dynamic softening mechanism the critical strain ($\varepsilon_c$), the strain for maximum softening rate ($\varepsilon^*$ and Avrami' exponent (m') were quantitatively expressed by dimensionless parameter, Z/A, respectively. The transformation-effective strain-temperature curve for DRX could be composed. It was found that the calculated results were agreed with the experimental data for the steel at any deformation conditions.
To minimize the possible leakage of microwave when one opens the door of a microwave oven during its operation, a structural design of the reinforcing brackets for the door frame is presented. Twisting deformation of the door frame resulting from a dynamic pulling force is analyzed by harmonic and transient response analyses. Several types of the reinforcing brackets weldable to the right flange of the door frame is taken into consideration, and their effects to the twisting deformation of the door frame are compared and evaluated. As a conclusion, a thick step-shaped bracket, which is welded to whole length of the right flange, is favorable.
Newmark-type deformation analysis has rarely been done in Korea due to the popularity of simple pseudo-static limit equilibrium analysis and detailed time-history FE/FD dynamic analysis. However, the Korean seismic dam design code updated in 2011 prescribes Newmark-type deformation analysis as a major dynamic analysis method for the seismic evaluation of fill dams. In addition, a design PGA for dynamic analysis is significantly increased in the code. This paper aims to study the seismic evaluation of four existing large fill dams through advanced FEM/Newmark-type deformation analyses for the artificial earthquake time histories with the design PGA of 0.22g. Dynamic soil properties obtained from in-situ geo-physical surveys are applied as input parameters. For the FEM/Newmark analyses, sensitivity analyses are performed to study the effects of input PGA and $G_{max}$ of shell zone on the Newmark deformation. As a result, in terms of deformation, four fill dams are proved to be reasonably safe under the PGA of 0.22g with yield coefficients of 0.136 to 0.187, which are highly resistant for extreme events. Sensitivity analysis as a function of PGA shows that $PGA_{30cm}$ (a limiting PGA to cause the 30 cm of Newmark permanent displacement on the critical slip surface) is a good indicator for seismic safety check. CFRD shows a higher seismic resistance than ECRD. Another sensitivity analysis shows that $G_{max}$ per depth does not significantly affect the site response characteristics, however lower $G_{max}$ profile causes larger Newmark deformation. Through this study, it is proved that the amplification of ground motion within the sliding mass and the location of critical slip surface are the dominant factors governing permanent displacements.
