Effects of Dynamic Soil Behaviour on Wave-Induced Seabed Response

  • In this paper, an analytical solution for the wave-induced seabed response in a porous seabed is derived. Unlike previous investigations with quasi-static soil behaviour, dynamic soil behaviour is considered in the new solution. The basic one-dimensional framework proposed by Zienkiewicz et al (1980) is extended to two-dimensional cases. Based on the analytical solution derived, the effects of dynamic soil behaviour on the wave-induced seabed response are examined. The boundary of quasi-static soil behaviour and dynamic soil behaviour is clarified, and formulated for engineering practice.

  • Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANETs) have become a viable platform owing to their potential of providing communication without any pre-existing infrastructure and central administrating authority. Mutual support and co-operation among nodes are prerequisites for performing functions in such networks. The scarcity of resources makes it economical for nodes to conserve their resources and misbehave by avoiding participation in the network. Therefore, a mechanism is required to detect and handle such misbehaving nodes and promote co-operation in the network. Existing techniques for handling misbehaving nodes focus only on their current behaviour without considering the antecedent behaviour of nodes. In real world, a node may dynamically change its behaviour in accordance to its requirements. Hence, an efficient mechanism is required for providing security against such misbehaviour. This paper proposes an Adaptive Security Model which contemplates the present as well as anterior behaviour of nodes for providing security against dynamic node behaviour. The adaptivity of the model is nested in its ability to requite well-behaving nodes and penalize misbehaving ones in conformity with their overall behaviour. Simulation results indicate the efficiency of proposed scheme in securing the network from the menace of dynamic behaviour of nodes.

  • The crash behaviour analysis of KHST is studied. KHST is modeled in 3D using the multibody dynamic analysis program DADS. The forward and side crash behaviour is predicted by tile dynamic analysis model and compared with those of another dynamic model. This study shot's that it is possible to predict tile crash behaviour of the trains in three dimension.

  • Bolted joints are essential elements of mechanical structures and metal constructions. Although their static behaviour is fairly well known, their dynamic behaviour due to shocks and vibrations has been less studied, because of the large size of the finite element models needed for a detailed simulation. This work presents four different simplified models suitable for studying the dynamic behaviour of an elementary bolted joint. Three of them include contact elements to allow sliding of the screw head and the nut on the assembled parts, and the last one allows rotation between screw and nut. A penalty approach based on the Coulomb friction model is used to model contact. The results show that these models effectively represent the dynamic behaviour, with different accuracy depending on the model details. The last model simulates the self loosening of a bolt subjected to transversal vibrations.

  • The high temperature mechanical behaviour of duplex stainless steels was examined. The relation-ship between the dynamic recrystallization substructures and the flow behaviour was analyzed in detail, and the flow behaviour was analyzed in detail, and the mechanisms of dynamic recrystallization were also discussed. The formation of disloca-tion cells and subgrain structures is of great significance to the understanding of high temperature deformation.

  • In order to transport cargo rapidly and safely from the trans-Korean railway to the trans-Siberian railway having a different gauge, a gauge-changeable freight wagon can be used. Because the wagon is expected to run in South Korea, North Korea and Russia, it should have good dynamic performance in these railways. In this paper, the dynamic characteristics of a gauge-changeable freight wagon was analyzed numerically using ADAMS/Rail in each condition of the railways having different gauges and rail profiles. The wagon makes use of load sensitive friction damping and has highly nonlinear behaviour, which is modeled in detail as the full nonlinear dynamic model. It is shown that the running behaviour of the wagon is sensitive to changes in the rail gauge and profiles, however the assessment quantities from the point of view of safety, track fatigue and running behaviour are less than the limit valves.

  • Structural health monitoring systems are often installed on bridges to provide assessments of the need for structural maintenance and repair. Damage or deterioration may be detected by observation of changes in bridge characteristics evaluated from measured structural responses. However, construction materials such as concrete and steel cables exhibit certain time-dependent behaviour, which also results in changes in structural characteristics. If these are not accounted for properly, false alarms may arise. This paper proposes a systematic and efficient method to study the time-dependent effects on the dynamic properties of cable-stayed bridges. After establishing the finite element model of a cable-stayed bridge taking into account geometric nonlinearities and time-dependent behaviour, long-term time-dependent analysis is carried out by time integration. Then the dynamic properties of the bridge after a certain period can be obtained. The effects of time-dependent behaviour of construction materials on the dynamic properties of typical cable-stayed bridges are investigated in detail.

  • The effect of dynamic strain aging on high temperature deformation behaviour of the A-Mg alloy was investigated by strain rate change tests and stress relaxation tests between 20$0^{\circ}C$and 50$0^{\circ}C$. Yield point, short stress transient and periodic discontinuities on the stress-strain curve were considered as an evidence of the effect of dynamic strain aging. With this criterion two distinct strain rate-temperature regimes could be manifested. Dynamic strain aging was considered to be effective in the high temperature-low strain rate regime, whereas dynamic recovery was a dominant deformation mechanism in the low temperature-high strain rate regime. It was found that dynamic strain aging in the high temperature deformation was governed by the mechcanism of diffusion-controlled, viscous dislocation movement.

Dynamic buckling analysis of a composite stiffened cylindrical shell

  • The paper investigates the dynamic buckling behaviour of a laminated composite stiffened cylindrical shell using the commercial finite element code ABAQUS. The numerical model of the composite shell is validated by static tests. In particular, the experimental collapse test is numerically simulated by a quasi static analysis carried out by both ABAQUS/Standard and ABAQUS/Explicit. The behaviour in the post-buckling field and the collapse load obtained by the analyses are close to the experimental data. The validated model is then used to study the dynamic buckling behaviour with ABAQUS/Explicit. The effects of the loading magnitude and of the loading duration are investigated, implementing in the analysis also first-ply failure criteria. It is observed that the dynamic buckling load is highly affected by the loading duration.
