Dynamic analysis of bridge girders submitted to an eccentric moving load

  • The cross-section warping due to the passage of high-speed trains can be a relevant issue to consider in the dynamic analysis of bridges due to (i) the usual layout of railway systems, resulting in eccentric moving loads; and (ii) the use of cross-sections prone to warping deformations. A thin-walled beam formulation for the dynamic analysis of bridges including the cross section warping is presented in this paper. Towards a numerical implementation of the beam formulation, a finite element with seven degrees of freedom is proposed. In order to easily consider the compatibility between elements, and since the coupling between flexural and torsional effects occurs in non-symmetric cross-sections due to dynamic effects, a single axis is considered for the element. The coupled flexural-torsional free vibration of thin-walled beams is analysed through the presented beam model, comparing the results with analytical solutions presented in the literature. The dynamic analysis due to an eccentric moving load, which results in a coupled flexural-torsional vibration, is considered in the literature by analytical solutions, being therefore of a limited applicability in practice engineering. In this paper, the dynamic response due to an eccentric moving load is obtained from the proposed finite element beam model that includes warping by a modal analysis.

  • 수평곡선 I형교에 동적해석을 수행하기 위하여 박판곡선보 이론에 근거 뒴자유도를 포함한 절점당 7자유도를 갖는 곡선보요소와 7자유도 직선보요소를 사용하여 동적해석프로그램 EQCVB를 작성하였다. 이 프로그램에서는 자유진동해석을 위하여 Gupta의 방법을 사용하였고, 지진하중이 작용할 때 동적해석을 수행하기 위하여 Wilson-${\theta}$방법을 사용하였으며, 범용구조해석 프로그램인 ABAQUS를 사용한 해석 결과와 비교하여 프로그램의 효율성과 타당성을 입증하였다. 지진하중 작용시 수평곡선 I형교의 동적 거동 특성을 파악하기 위하여 다양한 예제에 대한 해석을 수행하였다.

  • At this paper Dynamic respones of bridges for the Korean high-speed railway are analyzed by a modal analysis. To control vibration of bridges, Tuned Mass Damper(TMD) that is passive type control device is used. Opimize and prove it. Newmark method is used for a numerical analysis. In case of vehicle is modeled for moving mass that considers the effects of the moving. Also this paper is assumped as the simple supported Bernoulli-Euler beam and considered two dimensional Interaction motion between vehicle and bridge.

  • The changes of stuctural systems in constructing prestressed concrete bridges are investigated according to several construction methods. Based on these investigation, structurally meaningful works are summarized and defined as "Construction Commands". And time-dependent characteristics of concrete and prestressing steels are fully considered. For the static and/or dynamic analysis of three dimensional prestressed concrete bridges at ant construction stages, it is propoesd to use "Comstruction Commands" directly as user's input data. A example of cable syayed bridges is presented by the computer program developed by the present simulation method.

Response modification factor and seismic fragility assessment of skewed multi-span continuous concrete girder bridges

  • Skewed bridges, being irregular structures with complicated dynamic behavior, are more susceptible to earthquake damage. Reliable seismic-resistant design of skewed bridges can be achieved by accurate determination of nonlinear seismic demands. However, the effect of geometric characteristics on the response modification factor (R-factor) is not accounted for in bridge design practices. This study attempts to investigate the effects of changes in the number of spans, skew angle and bearing stiffness on R-factor values and to assess the seismic fragility of skewed bridges. Results indicated that changes in the skew angle had no significant effect on R-factor values which were in consonance with code-prescribed R values. Also, unlike the increase in the number of spans that resulted in a decrease in the R-factor, the increase in bearing stiffness led to higher R-factor values. Findings of the fragility analysis implied that although the increase in the number of spans, as well as the increase in the skew angle, led to a higher failure probability, greater values of bearing stiffness reduced the collapse probability. For practicing design engineers, it is recommended that maximum demands on substructure elements to be calculated when the excitation angle is applied along the principal axes of skewed bridges.

강합성 하로 철도교의 동적거동에 대한 해석적 연구 (Analytical Research on Dynamic Behavior of Steel Composite Lower Railway Bridge)

  • 기존의 중-장경간 철도교량에는 주로 강박스 거더교가 적용되어 왔다. 하지만 강박스 거더교는 교량 아래의 공간확보가 불리하고, 주거더가 얇은 박판의 박스형상으로 이루어져 진동에 의한 울림소음이 발생하여 소음에 대한 많은 민원이 제기 되고 있다. 이와 같은 이유로 강박스 거더교를 대체할 수 있는 장지간 철도교량의 개발에 대한 필요성이 대두되었다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 이유로 최근에 개발된 강합성 하로 철도교에 대한 특징을 소개하고, 이 철도교의 주요 적용 지간인 40m와 50m 교량을 대상으로 실제 운행열차인 KTX 하중의 운행속도를 반영하여 상용유한요소프로그램인 MIDAS Civil을 이용하여 시간이력해석을 수행하였다. 또한 해석결과를 분석하여 대상교량의 동적거동 특성을 확인하고 철도설계기준에서 제시하고 있는 동적성능 기준을 만족하는지에 대해 검토하였다. 그 결과, 검토 대상 교량 모두 동적안전성 기준을 만족하였으나 지간 40m의 경우 연직가속도 값이 상당히 크게 나와 이에 대한 개선 방안을 제시하고, 단면을 수정하여 연직가속도의 감소를 확인하였다.

Vibration analysis of prestressed concrete bridge subjected to moving vehicles

  • The vibration response of the bridges under the moving vehicular load is of importance for engineers to estimate the serviceability of existing bridges and to design new bridges. This paper deals with the three dimensional vibration analysis of prestressed concrete bridges under moving vehicles. The prestressed bridges are modeled by four-node isoparametric flat shell elements with the transverse shearing deformation taken into account. The usual five degrees-of-freedom (DOFs) per node of the element are appended with a drilling DOF to accommodate the transformation of the local stiffness and mass matrices to the global coordinates. The vehicle is modeled as a single or two-DOF system. A single-span prestressed Tee beam and two-span prestressed box-girder bridge are studied as the two numerical examples. The effects of prestress forces on the natural frequencies and dynamic responses of the bridges are investigated.

  • This paper presents a simple model for studying the dynamic response of multi-span bridges resting on piers with different heights and subjected to earthquake forces acting transversely to the bridge, but varying spatially along its length. The analysis is carried out using the modal superposition technique, while the solution of the resulting integral-differential equations is obtained via the Laplace transformation. It has been found that the piers' height and the quality of the foundation soil can affect significantly the dynamic behavior of such bridges. Typical examples showing the effectiveness of the method are presented with useful results listed.

  • The present paper deals with the influence of the inclination of cables' system on the decrease of the lateral-torsional motion because of dynamic loadings. For this goal, a mathematical model is proposed. A 3-D analysis is performed for the solution of the bridge model. The theoretical formulation is based on a continuum approach, which has been widely used in the literature to analyze such bridges. The resulting uncoupled equations of motion are solved using the Laplace Transformation, while the case of the coupled motion is solved through the use of the potential energy. Finally, characteristic examples are presented and useful results are obtained.

A three dimensional analysis is performed for the solution of the bridge models.
