  • Natural indigo dye was prepared by extracting from Polygonum tintorium, precipitating with calcium hydroxide, and dried. Dyeing was carried out using sodium hydrosulfite as a reducing agent for the prepared natural indigo powder. K/S value, color property, and colorfastness of dyed fabrics were investigated. Optimum dyeing conditions obtained were 60$^{\circ}C$, 20min. Regardless of indigo dye and sodium hydrosulfite concentration, Munsell hue of dyed fabrics was PB color. Compared to the dyed fabric with both sodium hydroxide and sodium hydrosulfite, those with sodium hydrosulfite only showed higher color strength(K/S value). Colorfastness of dyed fabrics showed high rating except of wash/dry cleaning fastness of silk fabrics dyed low color strength.

  • Abstract-Many studies have been carried out to improve the dyeability of anionic dyes onto cellulosic fibers. Modification of control using cationic compounds has been most widely used. In this study, an effort was made to cationize cotton fabrics using cellulose-reactive allylamine polymer, namely triazinyl N,N'-dimethyl-N,N'-diallyl ammonium chloride in the previous work. The results showed that the dye-uptake of treated cotton fabrics with acid dyes and reactive dyes markedly increased in the various dyeing conditions. In addition, the dyeing rate of cationized cotton was also faster than that of untreated counterpart. Furthermore, the antimicrobial property was also investigated to determine the effects of cationization.

  • The natural dyestuff(squid ink) was manufactured from squid ink by boiling in 0.1% NaOH solution and powdering in freeze dryer. Cotton, wool, silk and nylon fabrics were dyed under several conditions using the manufactured squid ink to investigate the dyeability and color fastness. Dyeing was operated in acidic dyebath of pH 4 because the squid ink is anionic. Dyeabilities on wool, silk and nylon fabrics were good, especially silk fabrics were dyed deeper than others because of being amine group. But dyeability on cotton fabrics was low and developed with chitosan treatment. All the dyed fabrics showed excellent in color fastness to crocking and laundering. Also light fastness of them were excellent except nylon. The light fastness of dyed-nylon fabrics was as poor as grade 1, but they could be improved to grade 4 by aftertreatment with gallicacid. Useing the natural dyestuff-squid ink powder, we could execute whenever we want to dye fabrics in the adequate concentration. Dyeabilities were developed according to repeating times of dyeing and the increased dye concentration. We could recycle the wasting sources.

  • The fabric, 100% Silk, was dyed with Atractylodes japonica extract solution. The effects of concentration of extracts (colorant), temperature of dyeing, time of dyeing and pH of dye bath were studied. As the concentration of extracts increased, color strength (K/S value) increased progressively. The K/S values increased with raising temperature, time and proper conditions were $80^{\circ}C$ and 80 minutes. Maximum K/S value was obtained at pH 3. The K/S values of mordanted fabrics were increased with increasing mordant concentration up to specific values. Surface color of dyed and mordanted fabrics were yellowish. Light color fastness of fabric with mordanting was fairly good 3/4 rating. The mordanted silk fabrics showed excellent antibacterial activity. The silk fabric dyed with Atractylodes japonica extract showed a superior UV protective property.

  • The purpose of this research was to investigate the color characteristic and the dyeing properties of Glycyrrhizae Radix extract on cotton fabrics. The highest absorbance of Glycyrrhizae Radix extract was obtained in 75 v/v% of ethyl alcohol in water. Pre-mordanted cotton fabrics dyed at $30^{\circ}C$ and pH 3 for 80 minutes showed the highest K/S value. According to the dyeing conditions, the colors of the fabrics varied from yellow(Y) and yellowish red(YR) to greenish yellow(GY). The color fastness of the fabrics in dry-cleaning and water was 4~5 rating. The deodorization capacity and UV-cut effect of the dyed fabrics were higher than those of undyed ones.

  • Dyeing properties of silk fabric with leaf Mustard was investigated the relation with pH variation, mordants, mordant method. K/S value shows the following sequence: pH 3>pH 5>pH 7>pH 9. K/S value shows high in post mordant conditions. Silk fabric shows the green, blue tone according to mordants(Al, Cu, Fe mordants). The tannic acid treatment silk fabric shows higher than the nontannic acid treatment silk fabric in K/S value. Lighting fastness of tannic acid treatment silk fabric shows better than that of nontannic acid treatment in Cu, Fe mordants. Water fastness of tannic acid treatment silk fabric was wholly improved. Tannic acid treatment improved dyeing properties of silk fabric with leaf Mustard.

  • This study conducted on the introduction of recycled cellulose fibers, which are widely used in the textile industry as eco-friendly biomass materials, into polypropylene resins, which are mainly used for interior and exterior materials such as door trims and console parts of automobiles. In general, cellulose fibers can affect mechanical properties and have a lightening effect when used as a reinforcing agent. However, since cellulose fibers have hydrophilic properties and have relatively low compatibility with industrial polymer resins, they are used in combination through fiber hydrophobic surface treatment. Therefore, through this study, the reforming reaction conditions optimized in terms of hydrophobicity and workability for cellulose fibers are studied. Furthermore, polypropylene containing surface-modified cellulose fibers was prepared to compare physical properties by fiber content and study optimized content.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effects of dyeing on the mechanical properties, primary hand, total hand value (THV), and total appearance value (TAV) of woven fabrics. Cotton, PET, nylon, cotton/PET, and cotton/nylon woven fabrics were used as test specimens. Each of fabric was dyed under the same conditions as the fabrics for sportswear which consumers have selected as best. Mechanical properties of specimens were measured by KES-FB system and primary hand and THV were calculated by equation KN -201-MDY and KN-301-WINTER respectively. TAV was calculated by KN (eq. 10). The results were as follows: 1. In mechanical properties. tensile energy increased when cotton and two cotton mixture fabrics were dyed and decreased when polyester and nylon fabrics were dyed. Bending rigidity and shear rigidity decreased after all fabrics were dyed except nylon and cotton/ nylon mixture fabrics showing higher rigidities. Cotton fabrics showed higher surface roughness while other fabrics did lower values after dyeing. 2. In evaluation of primary hand and total hand , four primary hands of cotton fabrics so decreased after dyeing that THV were lowered. Numeri, Fukurami, and Sofutosa in primary hand of polyester, cotton/polyester, and cotton/nylon fabrics and Koshi and Numeri of nylon fabrics increased after dyeing and therefore THV of four fabrics were improved. 3. Cotton and polyester fabrics showed higher TAV due to their lower bending and shear rigidity, while nylon and cotton/nylon fabrics did lower values due to their higher shear rigidity. 4. It was proposed that the method of dyeing or treatment for minimizing the decrease of THV of cotton fabrics and TAV of nylon fabrics should be developed.

  • This research was carried out in order to suggest useful data for planning fabrics of summer eco-friendly fashion products. For this purpose, four cellulose fabrics were dyed with natural indigo under three different dyeing conditions, then, their colorimetric properties and color sensibilities were evaluated, and their influences on color preferences were analyzed. All cellulose fabrics naturally dyed with indigo showed the characteristics of PB color tones, middle and low value, and low chroma. Color characteristics were significantly different according to fiber type and dyeing condition. The color sensibilities of the fabrics dyed with indigo were classified into three factors: sporty, classic and natural. These sensibilities showed partially significant differences according to fiber type and dyeing condition. Also, there were partially significant relationships between color characteristics and the color sensibilities of the fabrics dyed with indigo. The color preferences of the dyed fabrics with indigo were found to be influenced by the sporty and classic of color sensibility and $L^*$ of color characteristics.
