Impact of coronavirus disease 2019 on patients with chronic pain: multicenter study in Korea

  • Background: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has caused significant changes. This study aimed to investigate the impact of COVID-19 on patients with chronic pain. Methods: Patients with chronic pain from 23 university hospitals in South Korea participated in this study. The anonymous survey questionnaire consisted of 25 questions regarding the following: demographic data, diagnosis, hospital visit frequency, exercise duration, time outside, sleep duration, weight change, nervousness and anxiety, depression, interest or pleasure, fatigue, daily life difficulties, and self-harm thoughts. Depression severity was evaluated using the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9). Logistic regression analysis was used to investigate the relationship between increased pain and patient factors. Results: A total of 914 patients completed the survey, 35.9% of whom had decreased their number of visits to the hospital, mostly due to COVID-19. The pain level of 200 patients has worsened since the COVID-19 outbreak, which was more prominent in complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS). Noticeable post-COVID-19 changes such as exercise duration, time spent outside, sleep patterns, mood, and weight affected patients with chronic pain. Depression severity was more significant in patients with CRPS. The total PHQ-9 average score of patients with CRPS was 15.5, corresponding to major depressive orders. The patients' decreased exercise duration, decreased sleep duration, and increased depression were significantly associated with increased pain. Conclusions: COVID-19 has caused several changes in patients with chronic pain. During the pandemic, decreased exercise and sleep duration and increased depression were associated with patients' increasing pain.

두꺼운 해빙에 대한 충격쇄빙 시 빙하중 신호 분석 (An Analysis on Ice Load Signals Measured from Repetitive Ramming in Heavy Ice Condition)

  • To navigate in ice-covered waters, the ice-breaking process is required. The ice-breaking mode depends on material properties of sea ice and ice conditions. The ice-breaking mode is classified into ramming and continuous ice-breaking. The ramming is effective on large ice features, such as thick ice ridge and icebergs, and the continuous ice-breaking is on level ice. In general, the impact time duration of crushing or bending on ice sheets is from 0.2 to 1.0 second. However, impact duration in ramming will be increased. The Korean ice-breaking research vessel ARAON conducted her research voyage in the Antarctic sea during the winter of 2012. The IBRV ARAON measured strain in ramming and continuous ice-breaking. Strain gauge signals were recorded during the planned ice-breaking performance and the unplanned ice transits in heavy ice conditions. The aim of this study is to investigate the ice load signals measured in ramming processes under the heavy ice condition. Based on the time history of the signals, a raising time, a half-decaying time and time duration were investigated and compared with the previous study which was suggested the five profiles of the ice load signals.

투수블록시설의 유출저감효과 분석 및 강우강도-지속시간 관계 분석 (Analysis of Runoff Reduction Effect and Rainfall Intensity-Duration Time of Permeable Block Facility)

  • 비점오염은 수계에 악영향을 끼치며 그 영향은 점차 커지고 있다. 이러한 비점오염을 관리하기 위해 정부에서는 LID(Low Impact Development) 시설의 연구와 다양한 효율평가를 시행하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 다양한 LID 시설 중 실제 설치된 투수 블록 시설의 강우 유출 억제를 위한 유출 저감율, 저류 강우량 분석 및 유출 지연시간 그리고 최대 유입 및 유출의 저감율을 분석했으며, 그 결과를 각 시설 간 비교했다. 불투수블록, 필터형 투수블록, 틈새형 투수블록 순서대로 분석 결과 저감 효율이 높게 나타났으며, 이를 통해 강우강도-유출지연시간간의 관계를 나타낸 그래프를 제시하였다. 이 그래프를 통해 앞으로 설계 시, 본 시설과 유사한 투수블록 시설의 재현 기간에 따른 시설 용량 선정 등의 설계에 도움을 줄 수 있으리라 생각한다.

  • 대체로 황천 운행 시 선체와 파도의 상대적인 운동에 의하여 발생하는 파랑충격하중을 고려하여 선수 구조부를 설계하고 있다. 선수 구조부의 파랑충격현상은 대단히 복잡한 현상을 나타내고 있고 정확하게 규명하기 어렵기 때문에 경험적인 설계에 의존하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 첫 단계로서 동적 비선형 범용 프로그램 LS/DYNA3D를 이용하여 선수 구조부의 손상 자료로부터 역으로 파랑충격하중을 추정하고, 파랑충격압력 곡선의 극치, 지속시간, 후부높이, 극치발생시간 등과 같은 특징에 대한 파라메트 연구를 수행하고자 한다. 본 연구를 통하여 파랑충격하중에 대한 구조물의 동적 거동은 주로 충격압력역적에 의하여 영향을 받고, 또한 구조물에 최대 변형이 발생하기 이전에 가하여진 충격압력역적이 거동에 매우 큰 영향을 미친다는 것을 알 수 있었다.

도시 유역에 위치한 하구를 구성하는 하천의 저영향 개발 기간 산정 (Estimation of low impact development duration of estuaries at urban area)

  • 하구는 하천이 개방해역과 연결되어 있어 담수와 염수가 만나는 전이지대로 생물다양성이 매우 높고 독특한 생태계를 구성하고 있다. 그러나 하구의 생태적 가치를 인식하기 전부터 다양한 훼손 및 교란이 이루어져 왔으며, 이를 위한 대책이 필요한 실정이다. 하구를 구성하는 하천의 하천기본계획은 지속적인 교란요소로 작용하고 있으나, 수재해로부터 인명피해를 최소화하고 하천의 기능을 강화시켜 국가 수자원을 관리하기 위한 공익적 목적이 있다. 따라서 개발과 생태계 보호라는 대립적 관계가 공존할 수 있는 방안에 대한 연구가 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 이를 위해서 환경창이라는 개념을 이용해 하구 생태계가 개발의 부정적인 영향으로부터 교란이 최소화되는 기간인 저영향 개발 기간을 산정하였다. 본 연구에서 제시한 저영향 개발 기간 산정방법은 향후 이루어질 개발사업이나 교란·훼손 행위 등으로부터 생태계를 보호하기 위한 근거 및 기초자료로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

고정, 임의시간 강우량 선택에 따른 농경지 배수 영향 분석 (Affecting Discharge of Flood Water in Paddy Field from Selecting Rainfall with Fixed and Unfixed Duration)

  • Recently, it has been increased disaster of crops and agricultural facilities with climate change such as regional storm, typhoon. However agricultural facilities have unsafe design criteria of improving drainage corresponding to this change. This study has analyzed the impact that inundation area and magnitude of drainage-facility is decided based on fixed- and unfixed-duration precipitation by applying revised design criteria of drainage for climate change. The result was shown that 1-day and 2-days rainfall for 20-years return period has increased about 11.4%, 4.4% respectively by changing fixed- to unfixed duration. And the increase rate of design flood was 15.0%. The result was also shown that Inundation area was enlarged by 6.6% as well as increased inundation duration under same basic condition in designed rainfall between fixed- and unfixed-duration. According to the analysis, it is necessary for pump capacity in unfixed-duration to be increased by 70% for same effect with fixed-duration. Therefore, when computing method of probability precipitation is changed from fixed one to unfixed-duration by applying revised design criteria, there seems to be improving effect in drainage design. Because 1440-minutes rainfall for 20-years return period with unfixed-duration is more effective than 1-day rainfall for 30-years return period with fixed-duration. By applying unfixed-duration rainfall, capacity of drainage facilities need to be expanded to achieve the same effects (Inundation depth & duration) with fixed-duration rainfall. Further study is required for considering each condition of climate, topography and drainage by applying revised design criteria.

계장화 샬피 충격시험에 의한 동적 피괴거동 해석

  • This investigation evaluates dynamic fracture characteristics of two alloy steels (STD-11 and STS-3 and a gray cast iron (GG-30). The dynamic crack initiation fracture toughness and some of the dynamic fracturing characteristics were evaluated by using the instrumented Charpy impact testing procedures. It was found from experimental results that inertia force strongly depends on impact velocity. The duration of inertia force was constant regardless of impact velocities in steel specimens.

민간항공기 소음평가 단위에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Evaluation Metric of a Civil Aircraft Noise)

  • The duration time of aircraft noise event is also an important factor for the evaluation of civil aircraft noise, which is considered as a notable characteristic of military aircraft noise. SEL is proved as a suitable noise metric for the measuring military aircraft noise of various flight pattern considering the duration time of noise event. This study reviews whether SEL is a suitable for measuring civil aircraft noise and study shows SEL is fairly compensating the duration time of civil aircraft noise event for the evaluation of aircraft noise. Noise metric for the evaluation aircraft noise based on SEL is more appropriate than based on $L_{MAX}$ for compensating duration time of noise event either military aircraft or civil aircraft. In this reason, current formula of WECPNL based on energy average of measured $L_{MAX}$ for the evaluation of aircraft noise impact in 'Test Method of Noise and Vibration of Korea' is recommended to be amended to formula of WECPNL based on energy average of measured SEL considering compensation of noise event duration time, if WECPNL is not based on measured EPNL, a metric compensating duration time.

원주형 고무구조물의 형상과 재질변화에 따른 충격흡수특성 (A Study on the Impact Absorbing Characteristics for Various Shape and Hardness of Cylindrical Rubber Structures)

  • Mechanical systems with rubber parts have been used widely in industry fields. The evaluation of the physical characteristics of rubber is important in rubber application. Rubber material is useful to machine component for excellent shock absorbing characteristics. The impact characteristics of rubber were examined by experimental and finite element method. The impact test was conducted with a free-drop type impact tester. The ABAQUS/Explicit was used for finite element analysis. The effects of thickness and diameter of the cylindrical rubber structures were investigated. The impact absorbing ratio of the rubber material was studied order to compare the peak reaction force of the specimen which only contained aluminum against the specimen with the inserted rubber part.

부하지속곡선을 이용한 유량 조건별 수질특성 평가 - 영본A 유역을 대상으로 - (Water Quality Characteristics Evaluation by Flow Conditions Using Load Duration Curve - in Youngbon A Watershed -)

  • This study was conducted to identify runoff characteristics of pollutants using flow duration curve(FDC) and load duration curve(LDC) in Youngbon A watershed during 2009~2011. A flow rate and pollutant load in the study watershed were estimated by equation of stage-discharge and discharge-loads rating curve. From these methods, BOD, T-N, and T-P have evaluated whether water quality standards would have attained. Results showed that BOD loads of about 50% plotted above the LDC, while T-N and T-P loads of about 50% plotted below the curve. It means that BOD of about 50% have exceeded the water quality criteria, while T-N and T-P of about 50% have complied with the water quality standards. Meanwhile, BOD, TN and T-P loads plotted above the LDC of low flows, implying that they were more affected by point pollution sources than nonpoint pollution sources in the study watershed.
