Performance and Emission Characteristics of Dual-fuel(Diesel-CNG) Combustion in a Diesel Engine (디젤엔진에서 경유-CNG 혼합 연소의 성능 및 배기 특성)

  • This paper describes an investigation of the performance and emission characteristics of a commercial cylinder direct injection diesel engine operating on natural gas with pilot diesel ignition. Engine tests for variations in the pilot injection timing were performed at an engine speed of 1500 rpm. This study showed that the performance of the dual-fuel diesel engine increased as the engine load increased and as the pilot diesel injection timing angle advanced. The peaks of cylinder pressure, pressure rise rate, and heat release rate all increased while the fuel ignition timing advanced with the pilot injection timing. The engine operation was stable, and the least smoke was produced at a pilot injection timing of $12^{\circ}$ before top dead center. NOx emissions were only exhausted under high-load conditions, and they increased as the pilot injection timing angle advanced.

  • In this paper, a space-frequency coded orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (SFC-OFDM) scheme with dual Viterbi decoder is proposed and analyzed. Here, two independent half-rate OFDM symbols are generated after convolutional coding of the binary source code. A dual Viterbi decoder is exploited to decode the demodulated sequences independently in the receiver, and their path metrics are compared. Accordingly, the recovered binary data in the proposed scheme are composed of the combination of the sequences having larger path metrics while those in a conventional system are simply the output of single Viterbi decoder. As a result, the proposed SFC-OFDM scheme has a better performance than the conventional one for all signal-to-noise power ratio.

  • In this paper, the implementation of audio/data processor using ETRI DSP to support analog mode in digital/analog dual mode mobile phone is presented. Audio/data processor performs the wideband data processing, audio signal processing, demodulation function, and data rate conversion when it is operated in analog mode. These functions are programmed in assembly language, and then loaded to ETRI DSP together with vocoder program for the digital mode operation. This is a very efficient implementation of the dual mode cellular phone ASIC since the vocoder for the digital mode and audio/data processor for the analog mode are programmed together in the same hardware.

Design and Implementation of a Dual-Channel ZigBee Router (이중 채널 ZigBee 라우터의 설계 및 구현)

  • ZigBee is becoming a promising communication protocol for wireless sensor networks based on low-power consumption. In case of a ZigBee network requesting continuous transmission of sensed data, the required bandwidth can be overwhelm the maximum transmission rate of 150Kbps. However, the ZigBee router which delivers data from source node to destination node can transmit data at most in a half of maximum rate because the router can not send and receive the data simultaneously. In this paper, we propose and implement a dual-channel router which can send and receive data simultaneously. Also, we propose a centralized channel allocation algorithm to allocate different channels to each module. The experiment result by the proposed dual-channel router shows a maximum throughput of 150Kbps as large as twice of normal single-channel router.

A dual-plane approach for surgical treatment of pseudoaneurysm with arteriovenous fistula in hemodialysis patients

  • Background We report the efficacy of a dual-plane approach using a Dufourmentel skin flap with a purse-string suture of the de-epithelized dermis to manage pseudoaneurysm at the vascular access site for hemodialysis. Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted of 61 patients from 2013 to 2018 with pseudoaneurysms at the arteriovenous fistula or graft who were treated with rhomboid excision, vessel repair with a purse-string suture, and a full-thickness Dufourmentel skin flap. The success rate was defined as the probability of complete wound closure and intact vascular access patency without infection or other complications. Results The success rate was 93.4% at 6 months postoperatively. Complications included newly occurring pseudoaneurysms (n=2), wound dehiscence (n=1) and bleeding (n=1). There were no complications such as stenosis or thrombosis from the procedure. Conclusions A dual-plane approach using a Dufourmentel skin flap with a purse-string suture for vessel repair was shown to be a favorable option for managing stable, small (diameter <2 cm) pseudoaneurysms without infection, rapid expansion, or patency issues of the vascular access.

  • The conventional best relay selection based on all the channel information for the first and second hops in dual-hop systems has a large consumption of resources for channel feedback. In this paper, we analyze the average bit error rate for partial relay selection based on the channel information only for the first hop in dual-hop decode-and-forward relaying systems, where we assume independent Rayleigh fading channels. In particular, we provide an exact and closed-form expression for the average bit error rate of M-ary QAM. Also, through numerical investigation, the performance of the partial relay selection is compared with the performance of the best relay selection, and the performance is evaluated for different numbers of relays and various average channel power ratios for the first and second hops.

  • The advanced method for $CO_2$capture is currently one of the most important environmental issues in worldwide and it is therefore necessary to have available technologies, which minimize the discharge of $CO_2$ including Carbon-14 from nuclear facilities into the atmosphere. A key aspect of this work is to provide the technically principal data required to improve a $CO_2$ removal system for the utilization of regenerative sorbent use, specifically include suggestions regarding its modified column design (parallel dual-bed assembly), stop-restart operation and the economic feasibility of sorbent use. The removal performance of soda lime and the effects of relative humidity (RH) and packing bed-depth (BD) on $CO_2$ removal were investigated. In a single-bed, it revealed that the utilization of soda lime for $CO_2$ removal at line velocity of 13 cm/sec and bed depth of 12 cm increased with the increased relative humidity up to 85%. However, in the parallel dual-bed assembly applied with the stop-restart operation, a maximum utilization rate of soda lime for $CO_2$ removal was obtained even at 55% of RH and 8 cm of BD, specifically the utilization rate of soda lime by using this $CO_2$ removal assembly was about two-fold superior to that in a single-bed.

  • In the case of a boiler, scale is made in the tube by the chemical reactions of Ca and Mg ions contained in the water, and heat transfer rate is reduced because of increasement of heat resistance in the pipe of the heat flow. Thus it brings to reduce the energy efficiency and to make environmental pollution by the use of chemicals for the prevention and removement of scale. In this paper, we discussed the design of electronic generator for dual ultrasonic transmitters and analyzed the effect of scale prevention by ultrasound.

  • This paper shows two models of the duplex system having a fault tolerant system characteristic used in airplane and railway system. The architecture of these systems is based on Mc68000, and we designed the single system, single duplex system, dual system and dual duplex system to evaluate the system characteristic. We calculate the failure rate of components using MIL-SPEC-2l7F and evaluate the reliability, avaliability, safety and MTTF(Mean Time To Failure) of the designed systems by Markov model. We choose our system depending on the developing system characteristic.

A Comparative Study on the Performance and Emission Analysis of a Dual Fuelled Diesel Engine with Karanja Biodiesel and Natural Gas

  • In the present study, a single cylinder four stroke dual fuel diesel engine was tested to investigate the performance and emission characteristics of various test fuels. The engine was tested in dual fuel mode using diesel and Karanja biodiesel blends as pilot fuel along with Natural gas as primary fuel with a constant gas flow rate under different loading conditions. From the experimentation it was found that smoke opacity and oxides of nitrogen (NOx) are at low level for all the prepared test fuels in dual fuel mode but the emissions of carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide ($CO_2$) and hydrocarbon (HC) were found higher. In comparison to diesel fuel, by increasing the blend percentage different emission parameters are found to be reduced. At different loading conditions all the test fuels show poor performance in dual fuel mode of operation when compared with single mode of operation with diesel and biodiesel. With increase in gas flow rates, except (NOx) and smoke emissions, the other emission parameters like CO, HC and $CO_2$ values increased for all test fuels. Again, all blended fuels showed lower performance compared to diesel. The maximum pilot fuel savings for diesel was found decreasing with the increase in karanja biodiesel. From the present work it may be concluded that Karanja biodiesel with Natural gas in dual mode can be can used as promising alternative for diesel with some required engine modifications and further research must be carried out to minimize the emissions of CO, HC and $CO_2$.
