  • In this paper, in order to set up the management system of water quality environment in Gwangyang Bay, the cluster analysis of water quality environment, the estimation of inflowing pollutant loads and residence time of pollutants in this bay was carried out. The Gwangyang Bay was divided into eight sea areas by cluster analysis and spatio-temporal change of water quality. The river discharges in the Bay were calculated about $11,681{\times}103m^3/day$ from the numerical simulation by Tank model. In addition, inflowing pollutant loads of COD, SS, TN, TP, DIN and DIP in Gwangyang Bay were estimated at 398 ton-COD/day, 2,846 ton-SS/day, 195 ton-TN/day, 5 ton-TP/day, 126 ton-DIN/day and 3 ton-DIP/day, respectively. Moreover, residence times of COD, TN and TP in the Bay was estimated at 6 days-COD, 20 days-TN and 195 days-TP, respectively in the dry season, and 3 days-COD, 6 days-TN and 21 days- TP, respectively, in the flood season. The central part of Gwangyang Bay (Region IV) has the longest residence time of overall pollutants.

  • A study was conducted on the effects of ploughing on physiological responses of male and female Bali-cattle. A $2{\times}2{\times}6{\times}8$ factorial design (2 seasons, 2 sexes, 6 days and 8 consecutive time of measurements every 30 minutes) was employed. Responses during the cool/humid season were lower than hot/dry; respiration rate (RR) was 52 vs 75/min, rectal temperature(RT) was 39.1 vs $39.5^{\circ}C$ and skin temperature (ST) was 37.1 vs $37.6^{\circ}C$. Within sexes, males were less tolerant than females in that their RR (66 vs 61 breath/min), RT (39.4 vs $39.2^{\circ}C$) and ST (37.6 vs $37.1^{\circ}C$) were each higher than females during work. With increasing time, during the average 2.5 h working period gradual increases in RR, RT and ST were recorded and the overall increases of 84 breath/min, $1.9^{\circ}C$ and $13.8^{\circ}C$ respectively (p < 0.001). Packed cell volume (PCV) data indicated significant difference between sexes, time and season (p < 0.001, p < 0.05 and p < 0.001 respectively). Within time (before and after 2.5 h working) the PCV decreased from 27.4 to 25.6%.

  • To determine effect of time after feeding on distribution of digesta in the gastro-intestinal tracts of sheep given orchardgrass hay once a day, a total of fifteen ewes (mean live weight $51{\pm}12kg$) were slaughtered at 2, 8, 16 and 24 hours after feeding. Contents in the reticulo-rumen, omasum, abomasums, small intestine, cecum, and colon and rectum were totally collected and weighed. Weights of digesta in the reticulo-rumen were about 6 kg which contributed about 75% of the total in the whole tracts. Digesta on dry-matter basis totaled about 1 kg. The dry-matter concentration of digesta in the whole digestive tract was about 107 h/kg of fresh digesta. Distribution of moisture in the digestive tract changed in parallel with that of fresh digesta. There was no significant correlation observed between time after feeding and weights of digesta in the gastro-intestinal tracts. While, feed intake significantly correlated with digesta in the reticulo-rumen, cecum and whole tracts (p<0.01). Thus, time after feeding was inferred to have no influence upon the content of digesta in the digestive tract, but feed intake influenced on the content of digesta in the digestive tract at a low level of feeding.

  • Glucosinolate (GSL) contents were investigated (i) at 1~7 days after sowing (DAS) in seed sprouts and (ii) at 3-7 weeks after sowing for the time-course. Moreover, (iii) They were compared with five different cultivars of rocket salad (Eruca sativa). Seventeen GSLs were separated by HPLC analysis, and 10 GSLs among them were identified as glucoraphanin, sinigrin, glucoalyssin, diglucothiobeinin, glucobrassicanapin, glucoerucin, glucobrassicin, dimeric, 4-mercaptobutyl GSL, 4-methoxy glucobrassicin, gluconasturttin by using LC-APCI-MS analysis, but 7 compounds were not identified. (i) The total GSL content in seed sprouts initially increased up to 3 DAS and then decreased according to their seedling growth. In particular, glucoraphanin known as a strong anti-cancer reagent was found the highest level (5.05 ${\mu}mol/g$ dry wt.) at 3 DAS. The most abundant GSL was glucoerucin ranged from 26.0~49.6 ${\mu}mol/g$ dry wt. (ii) In the time-course, the total GSL contents increased dramatically from 3-week (5.91 ${\mu}mol/g$ dry wt.) to 7-week after sowing (32.2 ${\mu}mol/g$ dry wt.). The major GSLs were glucoraphanin, glucoerucin and 4-methoxy glucobrassicin. (iii) By comparing GSL contents with five different cultivars, the total GSL contents increased from 4-week to 6-week after sowing, regardless of cultivar. In 4-week-old, the order with the total GSL content was "Rucola" > "Rocket Herbs" ${\geqq}$ "Odyssey" > "Takii" > "Herb", but in 6-week-old it is changed as "Takii" > "Herb" > "Odyssey" > "Rucola" > "Rocket Herbs" even there was almost no significantly difference between them.

  • This paper develops and evaluates a mechanical machining process which involves drilling on PVS material. According to the material, two treatment experiments were conducted, one involving drilling in a wet condition or using a lubricant and one involving drilling in a dry condition with no lubricant. Drilling in a dry condition showed better performance in terms of the cutting time than in the wet condition. Otherwise, the wet condition has several advantages. The lubricant influenced the burr diameter size and minimized the temperature on the surface of the work piece. During the wet condition drilling process, a smaller burr diameter size was noted as compared to the dry condition. The temperature showed a linear correlation with the drill bit size, where a least-square analysis provided an $R^2$valuewhichexceeded 0.95. The wet condition required more cutting time than the dry condition. In this condition, the water provides a lubrication effect. A thin layer between the cutting edges and the surface of the work piece is formed. The chip formation is affected by the drilling depth. The color on the tips of the chips was darker than in the initial condition. No correlation between the drilling depth and the bore roughness was noted, but the variation of the cutting speed or the RPM influenced the roughness of the bore. The optimum cutting speed ranged from 40 RPM to 45 RPM in the condition which provided the finest roughness surface.

  • In this study we proposed a simple method for generating multi-site daily rainfall based on the 1-order Markov chain and considering the spatial correlation. The occurrence of rainfall is simulated by a simple 1st-order Markov chain and its intensity to be chosen randomly from the observed data. The spatial correlation between sites could be conserved as the rainfall intensity at each site is to be chosen consistently with the target site in time through generation. It is found that the generated daily rainfall data reproduce genera] characteristics of the observed data such as average, standard deviation, average number of wet and dry days, but the clustering level in time is somewhat loosened. Thus, the lag-I correlation coefficient of the generated data gave smaller value than the observed, also the average lengths of wet run and dry run and the wet-to-wet and dry-to-dry probabilities were a bit less than the observed. This drawback seems to be overcome somewhat by choosing a proper site representing overall basin characteristics or by use of more detailed states of rainfall occurrence.

  • The objective of experiment was to investigate the effects of sowing dates on forage yield and growth characteristics of rye in paddy field cultivation in midwest region of Korea. The field experiment treated with 5 levels of sowing dates was carried out at Yesan from october 1990 to june 1991. The field emergence rate and winter survival rate were decreased with delay in sowing dates by the days from sowing to emergence were took a long period of time. The crop growth rate were increased with early in sowing date. The fresh and dry weight of rye were increased with early in sowing date, but there was no significant differences between sowing date from Oct. 5 to Oct. 25. The highest fresh yield was obtained at flowering stage and the highest dry yield was obtained at milky stage. The ratio of leaf blade and leaf sheath in rye plant were decreased with earlier sowing date and delayed harvest, but the ratio of stem and inflorescence was vice versa.

  • Background: The aim of this study was to examine the resource allocation among the organs and the leaf morphology of Polygonatum humile. The data were collected from June 2014 to May 2015 in a natural P. humile stand of a temperate forest gap. Results: The dry weight of new rhizome ($R_0$) sharply decreased to the time of new shoot sprouting in next year and was constant for 2 ~ 3 years. However, dry weight of root on $R_0$ increased to the end of growth season and, thereafter, decreased slowly along the time elapsed. The correlation coefficients between the rhizome and the leaf sizes were 0.5 for the last year's rhizome ($R_1$) and 0.6 for $R_0$ and were significant at 0.1% level for $R_0$. The increase of one leaf a plant led to increase of the total leaf area, total leaf weight, and stem length. Moreover, the organ sizes' differences between two plants of the one leaf difference were almost significant at 1% level. In 11-leaf plant, the leaf length/width ratio and specific lea area increased to the second, relative leaf area to the fourth and relative leaf dry weight to the fifth, and thereafter, decreased to the last leaf. The differences in the values of these four parameters between two leaves on a stem were almost significant at 5% level. Conclusion: P. humile examined showed the close relationships between the last year's rhizome or this year's one and the shoot system (leaf and stem) sizes. The leaf number a shoot greatly influenced specific leaf area. P. humile's leaf might showed diverse morphology with leaf rank on a stem in a forest gap environment.

  • The studies on shrinkage and characteristics of the weft knitted fabrics were investigated under the various dry and wet treating conditions. Various relaxation values were found out according to treating conditions. The characteristics of knitted fabrics such as shrinkage rate, thickness, spirality, elongation and recovery were also measured. The used knitting yams were OE (open-end) cotton and POY (pre-oriented yarn)-DTY (draw textured yam) polyester. The conclusions obtained in this study are as follows. 1. In case of dry relaxation little change of Ks values was seen with increasing time after 48 hours. So it was found that relaxation shrinkage of dry relaxation reached its maximal state in about 48 hours. 2. In case of wet relaxation, higher Ks values were observed, in comparision with those of dry one and higher shrinkage rates were also observed. But when experimental temperature was constant, sudden marked increases in Ks values and shrinkage rates appeared through the initial 4 hours, and after that time little change was seen in them. 3. As Ks value increases, thickness also increased. But thickness showed to some degree stability around Ks value 23. 4. As Ks value increases, spirality values also increased gradually. But little change of spirality values was observed above a certain Ks values (cotton 22.5, polyester 21.5). 5. As Ks value increases, the elongation decreased under a certain load, and the recovery was random.
