The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of dietary habits and nutrient intakes on skin condition of female university students. The subjects were 95 female university students in Daegu. This study examined anthropometric measurements, dietary intake, food intake habits and skin condition (moisture, elasticity, sebum (U-zone, T-zone), pores, evenness and melanin pigmentation. The subjects in this study had an average age of 21.4, an average height and weight of 161.2 cm and 52.9 kg, respectively, and the average body mass index (BMI) was 20.3 $kg/m^2$. The means of skin elasticity, pores, evenness, and melanin pigmentation were within the normal range of women in their 20s and the skin moisture state was slightly lower than the normal range, which showed a dry tendency. The sebum in the U-zone and the T-zone was lower than the standard values, which showed less secretion in both areas. The subjects with high nut intake showed a better skin pore state (p < 0.05). Those with a high intake of instant foods showed a sig-nificantly low skin moisture and a significantly higher sebum rate (p < 0.05). The group with high skin elasticity and the group with less melanin pigmentation showed a significantly low animal protein intake (p < 0.05). The group with high skin elasticity also showed a significantly higher vitamin A and niacin intakes as well (p < 0.05). The group with high skin evenness showed a significantly lower animal lipid intake and a significantly higher vitamin E intake (p < 0.05). In addition, those with high skin elasticity and evenness as well as low melanin pigmentation showed a tendency of high intake of antioxidant vitamins, such as vitamin A, carotene, vitamin C or vitamin E. In summary, a moderate intake of plant-based products and also the antioxidant vitamins within such products seems to have a beneficial effect on maintaining a healthy and good skin condition.
An experimental study on the air-side pressure drop of slit fin-tube heat exchanger has been carried out. The data reduction methodology for air-side pressure drop in the literature is not based on a consistent approach. This paper focuses on method of data reduction to obtain the air-side performance of fin-tube heat exchanger using R22 and recommends standard procedures for dry and wet surface pressure drop estimation in fin-tube heat exchanger. A comparison was made between the predictions of previously proposed empirical correlations and experimental data for the air-side pressure drop on design conditions of condenser and evaporator. Results are pre-sented as plots of friction f-factor against Reynolds number based on the fin collar outside diameter and compared with previous studies. The data covers a range of refrigerant mass fluxes of $150{\sim}250\;kg/m^2s$ with air flows at velocity ranges from 0.38 m/s to 1.6 m/s.
For cultivation on sawdust-bed of oak-mushroom until present time, inoculation of spawn on sawdust bed has been performed by sawdust spawn. But, liquid spawn may have advantages for rapid mass production of spawn, and now, sawdust-cultivation by liquid spawn inoculation should be applied instead of sawdust spawn. Therefore, investigations were performed to evaluate the effect of sawdust-cultivation by liquid spawn inoculation. The results were as follows: 1. When 11 kinds of liquid media were applied, the oak-mushroom culture medium was the most excellent in growth. Most suitable temperature at PDA was $25^{\circ}C$, and $22.5\sim27.5^{\circ}C$ in range were optimal for liquid culture. In liquid culture, amount of mycelial growth increases rapidly up to 40 days of cultivation. Incubation at fermentor brought yield of 106mg dry mycelia per 40ml media after 17 days. 2. In 1l-spawn bottle, growth of mycelium by inoculation of 20ml-liquid spawns were faster than 6g-sawdust spawn in spread of mycelia. On 2kg-bag culture, inoculations of 10ml-, 20ml- and 30ml-liquid spawns were all slower than 20g-sawdust spawn in mycelial spread. So, amount increasement in ampunt of liquid spawn should be discussed. Yields of mushrooms until third sproutings of 2kg-bag culture were 580g in 30ml-liquid spawn inoculation, but 510g, 486g and 470g from 20g-sawdust spawn, 20ml-liquid spawn and 10ml-liquid spawn, respectively. Thus, 30ml-liquid spawn inoculation was highest in yield.
A string wallcovering is a kind of textile wallcovering which is made of cellulose fiber yarn laminated on base paper. Compared with normal paper or PVC wallpaper, a string wallcovering is preferred continually in the interior design market, as it is not only environmentally friendly but it also has less cost on mass production without the weaving process and has a natural visual effect, excellent functionality such as thermo keeping, permeability, sound absorption. However, in the dyeing process, it is not appropriate to use plenty of energy such as water, electricity, steam or chemicals considering the environmental trend and the government policy plenty of energy such as water, electricity, steam or chemicals. Currently, a string wallcovering is made of raw white yarn and padding with direct dye or pigment which includes toxic elements, especially the use of direct dye is restricted in a part of the developed country due to inclusion of azo. In this study, we researched dyeing based on cold pad batch dyeing of a string wallcovering with reactive dyestuff. The peel strength and bending depth test confirmed that the optimum adhesive type and spread amount improved the water resistance of the string wallcovering. Also, pad batch dyeing with optimum reactive dyestuff enhanced the color fastness to light and rubbing in dry and wet conditions. Additionally, for improvement of color fastness to rubbing in a wet condition, the additional treatment finishing without soaping process which is used water. The results of this study can be used as basic data for environmentally friendly and energy saving of the textile wallcovering.
To seek for a stable supply source of taxol as an anticancer agent urgently needed for the treatment of ovarian cancer, the concentrations of taxol and cephalomannine in bark and needles of 37 yew (Taxus cuspidata S. et Z.) trees grown in 6 locations of Cheju Island were analyzed by using HPLC. A considerable variation in the content was observed in plant part and the location. The average taxol content in the needles ($220.3{\;}{\pm}{\;}56{\;}{\mu}g$ per g dry wt) was ca. 4 times hgher than that in the bark, whereas the content of cephalomannine in the needles $(353{\;}{\pm}{\;}141{\;}{\mu}g)$ was ca. 5 times higher than that in the bark. Particularly, even within Cheju Island, needles from trees grown near the coast including Sogwipo area contained much higher taxol contents than needles from trees grown at mountain locations, indicating that taxane level is affected by environmental effects. Taxol in the needles was confirmed by electrospray mass spectrometry. These results suggest that the needles of yew trees growing in Cheju Island may provide a renewable source for taxol.

Recently the use of web offset printing has been increasing, which can provide high print speed, mass production, and high print quality. However, high speed web offset printing has frequently undergone a blistering problem when the printed paper passes through hot air dryers. Blistering occurs in the middle of the base paper or in the coating layer. This paper focused on the blistering occurring in the base paper. In order to elucidate the effect of pigment ratio on blistering, 6 types of coating color were prepared with varying GCC/clay ratios and printability and blistering were investigated focusing on structure changes in the coating layer. When the clay content in the coating layer was increased, surface roughness and surface strength were decreased and paper gloss was increased. In addition, it was found that the coating layer structure with high clay content, which contains lots of discontinuous pores, hindered water vapors to penetrate out and, as a result, blistering occurred.

A moderate halophile, ES 10 which produces a high level of alkaline protease was isolated from the salted anchovies and indentified as a strain of Halomonas sp. The optimum growth of the Halomonas sp. was revealed in the presence of 2 M NaCl and its growth rate in the Temporary Synthetic Medium was increased by adding DL-alanine, but inhibited by adding L-proline. The concentration of $Na^+$, $K^+$ and $Mg^{2+}$ in the cell mass of the Halomonas sp. ES 10 was 5-, 25- and 35-fold higher by dry weight basis, respectively than those of B. subtilis or E. coli. Norberg and Hofsten medium with 1 M NaCl was selected as the best medium for producing high level of alkaline protease. The optimum temperature for the growth and protease production was equally $20^{\circ}C$.
This study was carried out to investigate the growth characteristics and root development of Mandshurian Linden (Tilia mandshurica Rupr. et Max.) seedlings grown in plastic net container and plain plastic container. The seedlings were grown in the mixture of peatmoss perlite : vermiculite (1:1:1, v/v/v) for five months in the plastic greenhouse. The seedlings grown in plastic net container showed greater root collar diameter growth, better root development, and more increment of root dry mass than those grown in the plain plastic container. In particular, the seedlings grown in plastic net container had no spiraling roots which were always observed in the control . These results suggest that the net container is suitable for container culture of Tilia mandshurica seedlings by enhancing root development. Seedlings grown in the net container and transplanted to various environments showed vigorous rootage and growth.
This study investigated the ecology and growth of Monostroma nitidum Wittrock in both its natural habitat and the laboratory. The maximum length, width, and weight of M. nitidum in March were 9.0$\pm$4.7 cm, 9.6$\pm$3.6 cm, and 1.52$\pm$1.13 g, respectively. Yellowish-green or yellowish-brown reproductive thalli began to appear in January, and over 80% of the thalli matured by March. The male and female spores were ca. 6 $\mu$m long, and elongate and ovoid in shape. The spores had two flagella and one-eye spot, and tended to swim toward light. Maximum number of spores released from matured thalli was 236 cells/mL after 70 minutes at a light intensity of 100 $\mu$mol/m$^2$/s. The zygote diameter ranged from 3.4-6.0 $\mu$m (mean 4.2 $$m) and increased to 69.8 $\mu$m 14 weeks after culture. The mass release of zoospores was observed from thalli in the dark (3 to 12 days), after 30 min under dry conditions in the shade, at 25$^{\circ}C$, and a light intensity of 100 $\mu$mol/m$^2$/s. The maximum number of zoospores released was 109.8 cells/mL after 60 min of induction. M. nitidum fronds on the net increased to 6.8-7.2 cm in length, and 6.6-8.9 cm in width during the winter.
This study estimated the heavy metal concentrations in octopus (Octopus minor) and conducted a food safety assessment of octopus. Octopus, a benthic cephalopod, was collected from the Seosan intertidal zone on the west coast of Korea. The samples were digested with acids, and then the cadmium (Cd), copper (Cu), and zinc (Zn) contents were analyzed using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). The Cd, Cu, and Zn range of concentrations in octopus were 0.06-19 (mean 5.8), 44-1,463 (mean 354.8), and 76-929 (mean 247.9) mg/kg on a dry weight basis, respectively. The concentrations of heavy metals were higher in the internal organs than in the mantle. Of the three heavy metals, copper had the highest concentrations in the internal organs because of the existence of hemocyanin bound with copper in octopus blood, whereas zinc had the highest concentrations in the mantle. No relationship between the concentration of heavy metals and biological parameters (length, weight, and sex) was found. The ratios (I/M) of the heavy metal concentrations in internal organs and mantle were highest for cadmium, although cadmium had much lower concentrations in the internal organs compared with copper and zinc. Considering the provisional tolerable weekly intake (PTWI) of the three heavy metals and the average intake of octopus per day, all three elements should have no adverse effects on humans.
