The motion of a floating body with multiple owe chambers in waves is studied taking account of fluctuating air pressure in the chambers. The atmospheric pressure drop in one chamber is interrelated with the drop in the other chamber. Velocity potential in the water due to the free surface oscillating pressure patches is calculated by making use of the hybrid Green integral equation. The chamber motion in the frequency domain is calculated for various values of parameters related to the atmospheric pressure drop in the multiple chambers.

In this study, pressure drop and heat transfer characteristics of plain finned heat exchangers having 5.0 mm diameter (fin collar 5.3 mm) tubes were investigated. Six samples having different fin pitches (1.1 to 1.3 mm) and tube rows (1 and 2 row) were tested. The fin pitch had a negligible effect on j and f factors. Both j and f factors decreased as the number of tube row increased, although the difference was not significant for the f factor. When compared with the j and f factors of the samples having 7.3 mm diameter tubes, the present j and f factors yielded lower values. However, the j/f ratio was larger at low Reynolds numbers. Possible reasoning is provided from the flow pattern consideration. Comparison with existing correlations were made.
Purpose: The simulation model of a pneumatic conveying drying (PCD) for sawdust was developed and verified with the experiments. Method: The thermal behavior and mass transfer of a PCD were modeled and investigated by comparing the experimental results given by a reference (Kamei et al. 1952) to validate the model. Momentum, energy and mass balance, one dimensional first order ordinary differential equations, were coded and solved into Matlab V. 7.1.0 (2009). Results: The simulation results showed that the moisture content reduced from 194% to 40% (dry basis), air temperature decreased from $512^{\circ}C$ to $128^{\circ}C$ with the particle residence time of 0.7 seconds. The statistical indicators, root mean square error and R-squared, were calculated to be 0.079, and 0.998, respectively, between the measured and predicted values of moisture content. The relative error between the measured and predicted values of the final pressured drop, air temperature, and air velocity were only 8.96%, 0.39% and 1.05% respectively. Conclusions: The predicted moisture content, final temperature, and pressure drop values were in good agreement with the experimental results. The developed model can be used for design and estimation of PCD system for drying of wood dust particles.

In this paper, analytical studies were conducted to obtain optimal design factors and analysis parameters of liquid nitrogen cooling exchanger applied in cryogenic refrigerator. The target value of heat transfer rate was more than 1 kW and pressure drop was less than 40 kPa. Design factors of cryogenic heat exchanger included width of channel and configuration of paths. Analytical factors of liquid nitrogen cooling exchanger included temperatures of coolant header surface and inlet liquid nitrogen. The width and number of channels in the design parameters were 0.0050~0.0150 m and 4~8, respectively. The configuration of channel path was 4 ways. Temperatures of coolant header surface and inlet liquid nitrogen in analytical parameters were 74 to 78K and 82 to 86K, respectively. As result, the design factor and analysis parameter satisfying the target values were obtained. The biggest heat transfer rate was 1.36 kW with pressure drop of 32.26 kPa.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate comparisons of vastus medialis (VMO) and vastus lateralis (VL) muscle activities according to different heights during drop landing in flatfooted adults. Methods: Fifteen subjects with a flat foot arch and 15 subjects with a normal feet arch were participated. Subjects performed a double limb drop landing task from 20, 40, and 60 cm heights. Surface electromyography was used to measure the muscle activities of the VMO and VL during drop landing. Results: There were significant differences of muscle activities in the VMO, VL, and the VMO and VL ratio between groups. The electromyography values of VMO, VL, and the VMO and VL ratio in the normal group were significantly greater than in the flat foot group, and muscle activities and the VMO and VL ratio significantly increased with landing heights in the both groups. Conclusion: Our results indicated that muscle activity patterns of VOM and VL in the flat foot group were lower at heights than in the normal group, so calf tightness was negative effects on balance and gait ability, so assessment of muscle activation patterns in the knee extensors should be considered during exercise and treatment of flat feet.

The purpose of this study was to set up sizing system for knit trainning wears. Sample size was 198 females and their age range was from 15 to 24 years old. The body types for sizing system for knit trainning wears were divided by height and drop values. The results were as follows. 1. The height could be divided into three groups and they covered 97.5%. The Short(152cm) covered 27.8%, the Regular(160cm) 51.0% and the Tall(168cm) 18.7%. 2. The Medium hip(drop value 6) and the Large hip(drop value 12)had the high coverage rate of 45.5% and 46%, and the Small hip(drop value 0) had the low coverage rate of 8.6%. 3. For sizing system for knit trainning wears, the intervals of bust girth and hip girth were 5cm and 4cm. In the same size of bust girth, the intervals of hip high girth and waist girth were 1cm, the intervals of back waist length and sleeve length were 2cm and the interval of slacks length was 4∼5cm according to three height groups.
In the present study, spread-recoil behavior of a drop of shear-thinning liquid (xanthan solution) on a dry wall (polished stainless-steel plate) was examined and compared with that of Newtonian liquid (glycerin solution). Nine different kinds of xanthan and glycerin solutions were tested, including three pairs of xanthan and glycerin solutions, each having the same viscosity in low shear rate region ($10^{-2}-10^0\;l/s$). The drop behavior was visualized and recorded using a CCD camera. The maximum diameter and the spreading velocity of the xanthan drops turned out to be significantly larger and the time to reach their final shape was much shorter compared to the cases with the glycerin solutions, due to the smaller viscous dissipation resulted from lower viscosity in the higher shear rate region (>$10^0\;l/s$). As a result, the maximum diameters were measured to be larger than the predicted values based on the model proposed for Newtonian liquids, and the deviation was more pronounced with the solution with the larger viscosity variation. Consequently, viscosity variation with the shear rate was found to be a dominant factor governing the spread-recoil behavior of shear-thinning drops.

The heat transfer performance and pressure drop characteristics of brazed-plate heat exchangers with 20 and 30 plates were experimentally measured and analyzed in this study. The mass flow rates of the heat exchangers with 20 and 30 plates were fixed at 0.6 and 0.9 kg/s for the low temperature side, respectively. The mass flow rate for the high temperature side was controlled from 0.2 kg/s to 1.2 kg/s. The inlet temperatures for the high and low temperature sides were $10^{\circ}C$ and $7^{\circ}C$, respectively. The heat transfer characteristics were not influenced by the number of plates. The pressure drop at the heat exchanger with 30 plates was slightly higher than that with 20 plates. The values calculated from the correlations based on gasket plate heat exchangers were compared with the experimental results. It was found that the predicted Nusselt numbers for the gasket plate heat exchangers were about 5% to 20% lower than the measured Nusselt numbers for the brazed plate heat exchangers. However, a pressure drop comparison showed that the calculated pressure drops at the gasket plate heat exchangers were less than half of the measured pressure drops at the brazed plate heat exchangers.

Many investigations have been made to determine the pressure drop and heat transfer characteristics for single phase flow in tape generated swirl flow. But few studies have been carried out to investigate the heat transfer in two component, two phase swirl flow with non-boiling. An experimental study has been conducted to determine the effects of tape twist ratios on two phase convective heat transfer coefficients, pressure drop, and void fraction distribution in a non-boiling, air-water, two phase flow. The flow conditions were both swirl and non swirl flows. The internal diameter of the test section is 42.5mm. The tape twist ratios of pitch to diameter ratio varied from 4.0 to 10.6. The heating conditions were isothermal and nonisothermal. The flow patterns identified with experiments were bubbly, bubbly-slug, slug, and slug-annular flow in up-flow. This study has concluded that no significant difference in void fraction distribution were observed both isothermal and nonisothermal conditions, the pressure drop for two phase flow with twisted tape swirler increase as the tape twist ratio decrease, and that values of two phase heat transfer coefficient increase when the tape twist ratio decreases.

The objective of the present study is to investigate the effect of experimental parameters on the hydrodynamic characteristics in a horizontal tee-type evaporator using R-22. The experimental apparatus consisted of an unheated tee-type test section, a liquid-vapor separator, a preheated, mass flow meters, a plate heat exchanger, pump, and other measurement devices. The experimental parameters were mass flux(500 and 600kg/$m^2$s), inlet quality(0.1~0.3) and separation ratio(0.3~0.7). Absolute pressure at the inlet of the test section was 0.652 MPa. The branch-to-inlet inner diameter ratio was 0.61. Pressure gradient at the branch section was larger than that at the run section at the same separation ratio. Pressure drop per unit length increased at the run section and decreased at the branch section as the separation ratio increased. Pressure drop predicted by the separated flow model agreed with experimental data within -35 to +16%. Generally, predicted values showed similar trend with the data. Mass flow ratio of vapor refrigerant was affected by the inlet quality more than the mass flux.
