  • Drone remote identification (ID) capability is essential to ensure public safety, help law enforcement, and secure the safety and efficiency of the national airspace. Remote ID technology can be used to differentiate compliant drones from illegal drones that pose a potential security risk by providing airspace awareness to the civil aviation agency and law enforcement entities. In addition, the increased safety and efficiency obtained by mandating remote ID will make it possible to operate drones over populated areas and beyond visual lines of sight. In addition, remote ID will allow drones to be safely integrated into unmanned traffic management systems and the national airspace. Remote ID devices can be categorized by type, i.e., broadcast remote ID or network remote ID. The broadcast remote ID, which has high technical maturity and will be applied in the near future, is primarily considered to ensure the security of drones. The network remote ID, which is being developed and tested and will be applied in the distant future, can be used additionally to ensure the safety and the efficiency of the national airspace. In this paper, we analyze the trends on regulation and standardization activities for drone remote ID primarily in the United State and Europe.

  • Drone refers to an unmanned flying system according to the remote control. That is a remote control systems on the ground or a system that automatically or semi auto-piloted system without pilot on board. Drones have been used and developed before for military purposes. However there are currently utilized in a variety of areas such as logistics and distribution of relief supplies disaster areas, wireless Internet connection, TV, video shooting and disaster observation, tracking criminals etc. Especially it can be actively used in activities such as search or the structure of the disaster site, and may be able to detect the movement of people and an attacker using an infrared camera at night. Drones are very effective for private security.

  • In this paper, we propose a security framework for a cluster drones network using the MAVLink (Micro Air Vehicle Link) application protocol based on FANET (Flying Ad-hoc Network), which is composed of ad-hoc networks with multiple drones for IoT services such as remote sensing or disaster monitoring. Here, the drones belonging to the cluster construct a FANET network acting as WTRP (Wireless Token Ring Protocol) MAC protocol. Under this network environment, we propose an efficient algorithm applying the Lightweight Encryption Algorithm (LEA) to the CTR (Counter) operation mode of WPA2 (WiFi Protected Access 2) to encrypt the transmitted data through the MAVLink application. And we study how to apply LEA based on CBC (Cipher Block Chaining) operation mode used in WPA2 for message security tag generation. In addition, a modified Diffie-Hellman key exchange method is approached to generate a new key used for encryption and security tag generation. The proposed method and similar methods are compared and analyzed in terms of efficiency.

  • The forces to protect people's life and property against the enemy attack is an organization which is regulated by the constitutional law. In terms of nature, its security is a significant factor to determine success or failure for the war. However, recently the 4th industrial revolution represents the rapid change in the advancement of civilization and technology. It can influence on the environment of military security which can make various changes. Unless taking proper action againsty these changes, it can inflict a vital harm for the organization of forces and its internal security. In this aspect, this study discuss new threats of the military security, above all, the most technical improvements and harms for the drones in terms of security. In addition, the advantages and disadvantages of drones which can influence on the ragions of military command and control, information operations, maneuvers, firepower, operation sustainment supports are analyzed. Moreover, this study set the purpose of developmental security measure for security threats in the aspects of military security.

  • Recently, As the interest of the drone has increased the fields such as broadcasting, disaster site and leisure which uses the drone has been constantly expanded. However, an invasion of a person's privacy and a threat of hacking attack also have increased as population of drone. High-resolution cameras mounted on drones can take a photo or real-time video anytime and anywhere. It causes the invasion of privacy from private houses, buildings, and hotels. In this paper, we perform a security vulnerability assessment tests on the camera's from common commercial drones and we propose the countermeasures to protect the drones against unauthorized attacker who attempts to access the drone's camera from internal or external. Through this research, we expect the Aviation Act and legislation accept the concept of security and provide the polices such as drones equipped with security devices from the production stage to promote drone industry.

  • Recently, the interest in hobby/leisure drones is increasing in the private sector, and the military also uses drones in various countries such as North Korea, the United States, and Iran for military purposes such as reconnaissance and destruction. A variety of drone related research is underway, such as establishing and operating drone units within the Korean military. Inparticular, recently, as the size of drone flight control source code increases and the number of functions increases, drone developers are getting accustomed to using open sources and using them without checking for separate security vulnerabilities. However, since these open sources are actually accessible to attackers, they are inevitably exposed to various vulnerabilities. In this paper, we propose an attack scenario for military drones using open sources in connection with these vulnerabilities using Telemetry Hijacking techniques.

  • Recently, crimes using drones, one of the IoT industries have been continuously reported. In particular, drones are characterized by easy access and free movement, so they are used for various crimes such as transporting explosives, transporting drugs, and illegal recording. In order to analyze and investigate these criminal acts, drone forensic research is highly emphasized. Media data, PII, and flight records are digital forensic artifacts that can be acquired from drones, in particluar flight records are important artifacts since they can be used to trace drone activities. Therefore, in this paper, the characteristics of the deleted flight record files of DJI drones are presented and verified using the Phantom3, Phantom4 andMini2 models, two drones with differences in characteristics. Additionally, the recovery level is analyzed using the flight record file characteristics, and lastly, drones with the capacity to recover flight records for each drone model and drone models without it are classified.

  • In recent years, Drone(lightweight unmanned aerial vehicle) is used for broadcast shooting, disaster scene, leisure, observation and military purposes. However, as the use of drones increases the threat of hacking is also rising. Especially when a flying drone is seized, a dangerous situation can occur which is abused regardless of the driver's intention. Already in Iran and China, there is a case of hacking and stealing the drones of other countries under reconnaissance. In this paper, we analyze the security vulnerabilities of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth communication in wireless network which are used in drones for stealing the commercial drones. The results provide a countermeasure to safeguard the drones against attempts by the unauthorized attacker to take out the drones.

  • As drones are widely used, attack attempts using drone vulnerabilities are increasing, and drone security is growing in importance. This paper derives security requirements for reconnaissance drone delivered to government office through threat modeling. Threats are analyzed by the data flow of the drone and collecting possible vulnerabilities. Attack tree is built by analyzed threats. The security requirements were derived from the attack tree and compared with the security requirements suggested by national organizations. Utilizing the security requirements derived from this paper will help in the development and evaluation of secure drones.

  • As interest in drones controlled by remote technology rapidly increases worldwide, drones are used in many fields such as military, rescue, and transportation as future innovations in many countries. In particular, as the drone has been spotlighted as a new future strategic industry, it is also used for public purposes such as disaster relief and crime investigation. However, security concerns such as the penetration of major national facilities, collisions with aircraft, and the possibility of privacy infringement due to aerial photography are also being raised. Unlike the increased interest in drones, there have been few studies on drone use, drone safety, and public attitudes toward drone use. This paper analyzed the perceptions of drone attitudes, drone stability and policy support for drones for Korean and United Kingdom.
