  • In order top investigate the growth of water dropwort grown by sandculture irrigated with recirculated tilapia aquaculture water, these experiments were carried out. Fish(tilapia) production and biofiltration provided by sand cultured water dropwort(Oenanthe stolonifera DC.) were linked in a closed system of recirculation water. Water dropwort was irrigated with water drawn from the tilapia tank and drainage from sand beds was returned to the fish tank. The temperature, pH and EC of tilapia culture water were stable. The growth of water dropwort grown by sandculture with aquaculture water was normal. Microbial activity of the biofilterbed irrigated by tilapia rearing water was higher than that of biofilterbed irrigated by tapwater. The feasibility of an integrated, recirculatory system for concurrent production of water dropwort and fish with no additional fertilization application was demonstrated.

  • Urban flooding has been a frequent phenomenon in recent years caused by the increase in maximum stormwater runoff arising from abnormal rainfall due to global warming, urban development, and development of lowlands according to population inflows. In order to respond positively against abnormal precipition in the city, it is necessary to check the GWI (Green Water Infra) effect and effectively utilize the existing stormwater detention tanks and treat stormwater to prevent local flooding. In this study, Overflow Type stormwater drainage methods are evaluated as a method of preventing urban flooding in abnormal precipitation using the Dynamic Wave Analysis SWMM (Storm Water Management Model) provided by the United States Environmental Protection Agency. Comparing and analyzing the Upward Watergate Type and Overflow Type, it was analyzed that the Overflow Type reduces the maximum flood discharge by 61 % and the total flood volume by 56 % in the rainfall of Typhoon Kong-rey. The application of the Overflow Type and the natural-pneumatic drainage method to the rainfall of Typhoon Soulik resulted in a 20 % reduction in maximum flood runoff and a 67 % reduction in total flood quantity. Therefore, as a solution to the abnormal rain fall, it is possible to improve the existing stormwater detection tank and install additional facilities. It is expected to be economically possible to strom drainage under limited conditions.

  • This study was to estimate the reduction effect of nonpoint source pollutants according to the rainfall intensity and drainage of infiltration grate inlet. Soil infiltration flow was measured on-site and SS load by the filter part was calculated by the experimental data in laboratory reactor test. Soil infiltration flow was measured to be about $1m^3/hr$ in soil condition saturated with water. The filter part of the infiltration grate inlet was a hydraulic equipment unhindered by soil infiltration on the bottom of the storage tank, because the infiltration flow was measured to be about $3m^3/hr$ continuously in the closing infiltration hole condition. Infiltration flow and SS load were over about $1m^3/hr$ and 1.71 kg according to laboratory results by the filter part using the artifical sample. Therefore, the above values could be presented as the limitted value to start the reduction of filtration effect. Reduction efficiencies of SS load by the filter part for the rainfall intensity were about 87 % at 5 mm/hr and about 61 % at 10 mm/hr in consideration of one infiltration grate inlet got the drainage area about $200m^2$. The reduction efficiency of nonpoint source pollutants was very effective in the first flush rainfall. However, the reduction efficiency by rainfall density was higher than by flow.

  • The prediction of the required pressurant mass for maintaining the pressure of propellant tanks during propellant feeding is an important issue in designing pressurization system. The temperature of pressurant fed into propellant tank is the critical factor in the required pressurant mass and is one of the most crucial design parameters in the development of pressurization system including designing the weight of pressurant tanks and the size of heat exchanger. Hence a series of propellant drainage tests by pressurizing propellant stored in a cryogenic propellant tank have been performed with measuring the temperature distribution inside ullage and the required pressurant mass according to the temperature condition of pressurant. Results shows that the required pressurant mass decreases as the temperature of pressurant increases. However, the rate of the actual pressurant mass to the ideal required pressurant mass increases.

  • Norovirus (NoV) prevalence was investigated in 100 sewage samples collected from 35 individual septic tanks around the drainage basin of Jaran Bay, Korea in January, May, and July of 2017. Genotypes and diversity of NoV strains detected in sewage samples were also assessed using the conventional RT-PCR and phylogenetic analysis. NoV GI or GII were detected in 22 (22.0%) and 24 (24.0%) samples, respectively. Thirteen genotypes were identified with three dominant genotypes (GI.9, GII.5 and GII.17) and GII.17 showed relatively higher prevalence during the survey period. GII.17 strains were clustered into recombinant type variant or NoV GII.17 Kawasaki variant. NoV GII.17 strains were considered emergent epidemic variants with widespread circulation. NoV surveillance strategy should include both environmental (sewage) and clinical data to reveal minor NoV genotypes likely cause of asymptomatic or underreported infections in the local population.

  • To manage rainwater environmentally friendly, it is necessary to let the rainwater be infiltrated naturally and make reservoirs to detain it in the chosen spot. Not only should it be prepared to handle the city flood, but also it be a necessary alternative for establishing the ecological water circular system in cities. Therefore, considering the present rainwater. management system, this study analysed the status of products which can be interchanged from existent systems to rainwater infiltrating systems. In this study, the infiltrating equipment that is applicable to the Korean drainage system was developed. The case was studied out to investigate the effects of infiltrating and the detaining ability of the developed product. The case site, block 6 of Sang-am residence, was selected and analyzed. The amount of infiltration and detention per unit of the introduced facilities, i.e., infiltrating pipes and tanks were calculated. In this research, the amount of each infiltrating tank was revealed to be 1.353 m/hr and the amount of detention as 0.299 m/hr. And the amount of each infiltrating pipe was found to be 0.541 m/hr and the amount of detention was 0.118 m/hr. To examine the effects of the system, the total amount of the outlet before and after installing was compared and calculated. In doing this, a basis for deciding the arrangement and number of tanks and pipes of the infiltrating system was made.

  • Although facilities for the passive treatment of AMD (Acid Mine Drainage) are currently operating in Korea, their removal efficiency for heavy metals is relatively low in average (only 80%). Passive treatment system is composed of oxidation tank, SAPS (Successive Alkalinity Producing System), and wetland. In the treatment system adopted in korea, SAPS (Successive Alkalinity Producing System) plays a major role to remove about 65% of heavy metals through a precipitation. However, the efficiency of SAPS is limited due to the use of mushroom compost (MC) as a organic material and of limestone as a neutralizer. Therefore, this research was performed to search for alternative organic materials through the field test. We tested two types of mixed organic materials: 1) cow manure and spent oak (herein, CO) and 2) cow manure and sawdust (herein, CS). For comparison mushroom compost (herein, MC) was also tested. The result showed that the average Fe removal efficiency was 91.38% with CO, 85.19% with CS, and 91.58% with MC. Thus, CO can be effectively used as an alternative of MC in the SAPS system for heavy metals removal.

  • This study was carried out in order to reduce the installation expense of heating system for greenhouse comparing to geothermal heat pump and develope the coefficient of performance (COP) for a heat pump. For getting plenty of heat flux from geothermal energy. Surface water in river channel was used for getting a lots of geothermal heat by penetrating water through underground soil layer of the river bank that make heat transmission to passing water. The range of water temperature after the process of Ground filtration is 13~18 degrees celsius which is very similar to low heat source of geothermal heat pump system and the plenty amount of heat source from that make the number of geothermal heat exchanging hole and the expense for geothermal heat exchanger construction reduced. Drainage well is also used for returning filtration water to the aquifer that keep the water good recirculation from losing geothermal heat and water resource. For the COP improvement of Heat pump, thermal storage tank with separating insulation plate according to the temperature difference make the COP of Heat pump that is similar to thermal storage tank with diffuser. Developed thermal storage tank make construction expense cheaper than customarily used one's. and that sand filter and oxidation sand (FELOX) are going to be used for improving ground filtration water quality that make heat exchanger efficiency better. All above developed component skill are going to be set on the Ground filtration water source heat pump system and applied for medium, large scale for protected greenhouse in riverside area and on-site experiment is going to do for optimizing the heating system function and overcome the problem happening in the process of on-site application afterward.
