  • Drainage duration before seeding and furrow depth desirable for establishment and growth in direct drill seeding of rice on puddled paddy soil were investigated. Furrow depths tested were 2, 4 and 6cm in combination with drainage duration 2, 4, and 6days. Dongjinbyeo was used and seeded on May 11, 1993. Seedling establishment were improved by longer drainage duration and by shallower furrow. Lodging occurred moderately at furrow depth of 2cm with 4 and 6days of surface drainage before seeding. This lodging might be attributable to the shallow burying of shoot below soil surface. Rice yield was highest at furrow depth of 4cm with 4days drainage before seeding. In considering seedling establishment and yield, desirable drainage duration before seeding and furrow depth might be 4days and 4cm, respectively. Cone(115g) penetration depth, dropped at 1m above soil surface, was 6 to 7cm on the date after 4days drainage before seeding.

  • This study was conducted to determine the optimum number of inter-rows according to distance of drainage furrow (DF) for running-off excessive-water stress (EWS) in paddy field. The most soil water potential was shown in high ridge (distance of DF by 70 cm) cultivation and the soil water potential showed increasing tendency in over four inter-rows cultivation by DF. The growth of soybean reduced by extended inter-row and its reducing level was high, especially, over four inter-rows (DF distance by 2.8 m) because of EWS. The photosynthetic rate decreased in the more extensive field by distance of DF at V5 and R2 stages, especially, in over four interrows cultivation. Also, root activity decreased at wider DF. The yield was reduced with wider distance of DF more extensively, the highest yield of 270 g per $m^2$ at the every row, but yield showed decreasing tendency at over the $4^{th}$ row (2.8 m) cultivation. Soybean cultivation in paddy field could be founded with DF of every other or $4^{th}$ row.

  • This experiment was carried out to elucidate the effect of the midsummer drainage times and some growth regulators on lodging characters, lodging and yield in puddled-soil drill seeding in rice. Dongjinbyeo, the mid-late maturing rice variety was seeded at May 11 by seeding machine with 4cm of furrow depth. Experimental plots were divided two main treatment without midsummer drain and two time drains (30 and 50 days after seeding), Inabenfide(IBF) was applied 40days before heading(DBH) and IBP was applied at 30DBH, respectively. Culm length was shorten, the wall of N$_4$ was thicken, and the breaking weight was increased at two time drainage and growth regulators applied in order of Inabenfide, IBP, and Control. Lodging wasn't occurred at two time drainage but it was occurred at none drainage in the order of Control, IBP, and Inabenfide applied. Yield was higher at two time drainage compared with none drainage and higher in order of Inabenfide, IBP and Control in none drainage but wasn't significantly different among growth regulators applied in two time drainage. Therefore, two times midsummer soil drying is recommendable management method for puddled -soil drill seeding of rice. • In this study, model test equipment was developed to evaluate the hydraulic pressure reduction in appling the drainage shield tunnel and the model test for hydraulic pressure difference was performed in case of drainage and undrained conditions. In the result of model test, increase ratio of pore water pressure was decreased in drainage condition and total stress in drainage condition was smaller than that in undrained condition, so the hydraulic pressure was reduced by the groundwater inflow into the model tunnel. In the result of field instrumentation, the hydraulic pressure in the back ground of shield tunnel was small by 11~22% in comparison with the calculated hydraulic pressure ($r_w{\cdot}H$) in same groundwater level. In the result of model test and field instrumentation, it was appeared in drainage and undrained conditions that the difference between the theoretical hydraulic pressure and the real hydraulic pressure. It shows that it is possible to apply the reduced hydraulic pressure in applying the drainage shield tunnel and to reduce the segment section due to hydraulic pressure reduction.

  • This experiment was conducted to elucidate the effect of the midsummer drainage times on lodging characters, field lodging and yield in direct seeding rice culture in puddled soil. Dongjinbyeo was seeded at May 11 by seeding machine with 4cm of furrow depth and drained, one(50days after seeding DAS)) two (30DAS and 50DAS), and three times (30DAS, and 50DAS and 60DAS). The results are as follows. Culm length was shorten and the wall of N3, N4 were thicken as the drain-age times were increased. As the drainage times were increased breaking weights were increased but the lodging index were decreased. Lodging was occurred seriousely at none drainage, but wasn't occurred two or three times drainage. Yield was higher at 1~2 times drainage compared with none and three times drainage. Therefore, two times midsummer drainage is recommend-able water management method for direct seeding rice culture in puddled soil.
