  • In this paper we study a number of new exponentiated distributions. The survival function, failure rate and moments of the distributions have been derived using certain special functions. The behavior of the failure rate has also been studied.

  • In this paper, we construct eight infinite families of ternary linear codes associated with double cosets with respect to certain maximal parabolic subgroup of the special orthogonal group $SO^-$(2n, q). Here q is a power of three. Then we obtain four infinite families of recursive formulas for power moments of Kloosterman sums with square arguments and four infinite families of recursive formulas for even power moments of those in terms of the frequencies of weights in the codes. This is done via Pless power moment identity and by utilizing the explicit expressions of exponential sums over those double cosets related to the evaluations of "Gauss sums" for the orthogonal groups $O^-$(2n, q).

  • In this paper, we derive exact explicit expressions for the triple and quadruple moments of the lower record values from inverse the Weibull (IW) distribution. Next, we present and calculate the coefficients of the best linear unbiased estimates of the location and scale parameters of IW distribution (BLUEs) for different choices of the shape parameter and records size. We then use the higher order moments and the calculated BLUEs to compute the mean, variance, and the coefficients of skewness and kurtosis of certain linear functions of lower record values. By using the coefficients of the skewness and kurtosis, we develop approximate confidence intervals for the location and scale parameters of the IW distribution using Edgeworth approximate values and then compare them with the corresponding intervals constructed through Monte Carlo simulations. Finally, we apply the findings of the paper to some simulated data.

  • In this paper, we construct four infinite families of binary linear codes associated with double cosets with respect to a certain maximal parabolic subgroup of the orthogonal group O+(2n, 2r). And we obtain two infinite families of recursive formulas for the power moments of Kloosterman sums and those of 2-dimensional Kloosterman sums in terms of the frequencies of weights in the codes. This is done via Pless' power moment identity and by utilizing the explicit expressions of exponential sums over those double cosets related to the evaluations of "Gauss sums" for the orthogonal groups O+(2n, 2r).

  • The aim of this work is to investigate and study the quantum effects in the modeling of nanoscale symmetric double-gate InAlAs/InGaAs/InP HEMT (High Electron Mobility Transistor). In order to do so, the carrier concentration in InGaAs channel at gate lengths ($L_g$) 100 nm and 50 nm, are modelled by a density gradient model or quantum moments model. The simulated results obtained from the quantum moments model are compared with the available experimental results to show the accuracy and also with a semi-classical model to show the need for quantum modeling. Quantum modeling shows major variation in electron concentration profiles and affects the device characteristics. The two triangular quantum wells predicted by the semi-classical model seem to vanish in the quantum model as bulk inversion takes place. The quantum effects thus become essential to incorporate in nanoscale heterostructure device modeling.

  • The double-row long-short composite anti-sliding piles system is an effective way to control the landslides with high thrust. In this study, The double-row long-short composite anti-sliding piles with different load segment length (cantilever length) and different pile row spacing were studied by a series of physical tests, by which the influences of load segment length of rear-row piles as well as pile row spacing on the mechanical response of double-row long-short composite anti-sliding pile system were investigated. Based on the earth pressures in front of and behind the piles obtained during tests, then the maximum bending moments of the fore-row and the rear-row piles were calculated. By ensuring a equal maximum moments in the fore-row and the rear-row piles, the optimum lengths of the rear-row piles of double-row long-short composite system under different piles spacing were proposed. To investigate the validity of the reduced scale tests, the full-scale numerical models of the landside were finally conducted. By the comparisons between the numerical and the physical test results, it could be seen that the reduced scale tests conducted in this study are reliable. The results showed that the double-row long-short composite anti-sliding piles system is effective in the distribution of the landslide thrust to the rear-row and the fore-row piles.

  • Axially loaded reinforced concrete columns are hardly exist in practice due to the development of some bending moments. These moments could be produced by gravity loads or the lateral loads. First, the current paper presents a detailed analysis on the overall structural behavior of 15 eccentrically loaded columns as well as one concentrically loaded control one. Columns bent in either single curvature or double curvature modes are tested experimentally up to failure under the effect of different end eccentricities combinations. Three end eccentricities ratio were studied, namely, 0.1b, 0.3b and 0.5b, where b is the column width. Second, an expression correlated the decay in the normalized axial capacity of the column and the acting end eccentricities was developed based on the experimental results and then verified against the available formula. Third, based on the equivalent column concept, the equivalent pin-ended columns were obtained for columns bent in either single or double curvature modes. And then, the effect of end eccentricity ratio was correlated to the equivalent column length. Finally, a simplified design procedure was proposed for eccentrically loaded braced column by transferring it to an equivalent axially loaded pin-ended slender column. The results of the proposed design procedure showed comparable results against the results of the ACI 318-14 code.

  • CNDO/2 and INDO calculations have been carried out on varying geometries of methyl chloro-and fluoro-formates. Results show that the configuration in which halogen atom is trans to methyl group is the most stable. Atomic charges and overlap population show that the trans form is stabilized by conjugation of carbonyl double bend with the unshared pairs of the ether oxygen and by electrostatic attraction of carbonyl oxygen to methyl group. Dipole moments of the trans forms agree reasonably well with the experimental values but showed that any generalizations made with dipole moments from bond moments should be accepted with considerable reservations.

  • We consider an M/M/2 queue with two servers placed in series. System performance measures that we present in closed expressions are the first and the second moments for the system size, the queue walting time and the sojourn time. We also present an algorithm for computing the queue waiting time distribution function based on the randomization method. As an application, we analyze the double tollbooth system and compare its performance with the conventional single tollbooth system's.
