In this study, equivalent dose and LET (Linear Energy Transfer) calibration of CR-39 SSNTD (Solid State Nuclear Track Detector) were performed using 400 MeV/u C heavy ions in HIMAC (Heavy Ion Medical Accelerator in Chiba) for high LET radiation therapy. The irradiated CR-39 SSNDTs were etched according the etching condition of JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency). And the etched SSNTDs were analyzed by using Image J. Determined frequency mean dose (${\bar{y_D}}$)and dose-mean lineal energy (${\bar{y_F}}$)of 400 MeV/u C are about 8.5keV/mm and 10.1 keV/mm, respectively by using the CR-39 SSNTD. This value is very similar to the results calculated by GEANT4 Monte Carlo simulation and measured with TEPC (Tissue Equivalent Proportional Counter) active radiation detector. We could determine the equivalent dose and LET calibration factors of CR-39. And we confirmed that the CR-39 SSNTD was useful for high LET radiation dosimetry in hadron radiotherapy.
Human fingernails were used to estimate the radiation dose via electron paramagnetic resonance measurements of radiation-induced radicals. The limiting factors in this research were mechanically induced electron paramagnetic resonance signals due to the mechanical stress during the preparation of the samples. Therefore, different treatment methods of fingernails were used to reduce the mechanically induced signals. The results demonstrate that the mechanically induced and radiation-induced signals have apparently different microwave power saturation behaviors. In addition, the mechanically induced signal shows a fading evolution over time and reaches a constant value. Chemical treatment using the different reagents showed that the minimum mechanically induced signal was obtained using the dithiothreitol reagent. The dose-response curves of the samples treated with dithiothreitol for 30 minutes demonstrated a greater linearity than those of samples treated for 5 minutes. Therefore, to find an unknown absorbed dose in a fingernail sample using a calibration curve, we recommend adopting the mentioned chemical treatment procedure to reduce the uncertainty.
A method for measuring archaeological dose of Packjae pottery shards using thermoluminescence dosimetry(TLD) has been studied. TL measurement has been achieved using quartz crystals in the size range of 90 to $125{\mu}m$ diameter extracted from the pottery shards. The stable temperature region of the TL glow curve which is devoid of anomalous fading components was identified by the plateau test and found to exist from 265 to $300^{\circ}C$. The archaeological dose of the pottery shards was estimated to be 7.43 Gy using the dose calibration curves obtained from sequential irradiation of $^{137}Cs$ gamma source to the samples and TL measurement of natural samples.
The use of GEANT4 simulation toolkit has increased in the radiation medical field for the design of treatment system and the calibration or validation of treatment plans. Moreover, it is used especially on calculating dose simulation using medical data for radiation therapy. However, using internal visualization tool of GEANT4 detector constructions on expressing dose result has deficiencies because it cannot display isodose line. No one has attempted to use this code to a real patient's data. Therefore, to complement this problem, using the result of gMocren that is a three-dimensional volume-visualizing tool, we tried to display a simulated dose distribution and isodose line on medical image. In addition, we have compared cross-validation on the result of gMocren and GEANT4 simulation with commercial radiation treatment planning system. We have extracted the analyzed data of dose distribution, using real patient's medical image data with a program based on Monte Carlo simulation and visualization tool for radiation isodose mapping.
The aim of this study is to introduce the accuracy of Ir-192 source's apparent activity using the well-type chamber and the Farmer-type ionization chamber in the high dose rate brachytherapy. We measured the apparent activity of Ir-192 that each medical center in the country has and the apparent activity of calibration certificate provided by manufacturer is compared with that by our experimental measurement. The number of sources used for the activity comparison was 5. The accuracy of the measured activity was in the range of -2.8% to -1.0% and -2.1% to 0.2% for the Farmer-type chamber system (Jig) and for the well-type, respectively. The maximum difference was within 1.0% for comparison with two calibration's tool. Our results demonstrate that well-type chamber as wall as Farmer-type chamber is a appropriate system as the routine source calibration procedures in HDR brachytherapy. Whenever a new source is installed to use in clinics, by periods, a source calibration should be carried out.

The activity of Ir-192 sources for high dose rate (HDR) Brachytherapy in Korea were measured by using the well-type chamber and using the calibration Jig with the Farmer-type ionization chamber to compare the manufacturer certificated source strength which is supplied with each new Ir-192 source. The activity of two different source models used in six hospitals were measured. The range of measured activities to the manufacturer's suggested ones was -2.40% to +3.31% for the calibration Jig and -3.12% to 0.00% for the well-type chamber system. The source strength values given by the manufacturer for the 6 sources were within ${\pm}5%$ for the two different measuring equipment. Our results demonstrate that well-type chamber as wall as Farmer-type chamber system are appropriate system for the routine source calibration procedures in HDR brachytherapy. Whenever a new source is installed to use in clinics, a source calibration should be carried out.
The present work is determine to the dose distribution reduced by the insertion of a shielded into a vaginal cylinder around a $\^$60/CO source in brachytherapy, and to the source calibration. It was investigated by measuring the relative dose around a 2.5cm diameter shielded vaginal cylinder in a polystyrene phantom by use of a ionization chamber. Measurements were made with the cylinder unshielded and 0.55cm thick 90$^{\circ}C$ lead shields inserted. Also, the dose distribution compared measurement value with calculation value according to the device manufacturer and the multiple-divided dose tables. A reduction in dose was observed on the unshielded side of the cylinder which increased with distance from the source and it does 4.4% within 1cm from the surface of the cylinder. On the shielded side of the cylinder, the dose at the surface is reduced to about 20.4% of its value without the shield. The effective attenuation factor entered for the 90$^{\circ}C$ lead shielded cylinder was average 0.2 in a $\^$60/CO moving source. In comparision with the dose calculation mathods, the multiple-divided dose tables are difference less than ${\pm}$4.1% with measured data in a $\^$60/Co source.
Radiation causes radiation hazards in the human body. In Korea, a case of radiation necrosis occurred in 2014. In this study, the scatter and shielding efficiency according to lead shielding were classified into epidermis and dermis for 0.511 MeV used in nuclear medicine. In this study, experiments were conducted using the slab phantom that represents calibration and the dose of human trunk. Experimental results showed that the shielding rate of 0.25 mmPb was 180% in the epidermis and 96% in the dermis. Shielding at 0.5mmPb showed shielding rates of 158%in the epidermis and 82% in the dermis. As a result of measuring the absorbed dose by subdividing the thickness of the dermis into 0.5 mm intervals, when the shielding was carried out at 0.25 mmPb, the dose appeared to be about 120% at 0.5 mm of the dermis surface, and the dose was decreased at the subsequent depth. Shielding at 0.5 mmPb, the dose appeared to be about 101% at the surface 0.5 mm, and the dose was measured to decrease at the subsequent depth. This result suggests that when lead aprons are actually used, the scattering rays would be sufficiently removed due to the spaces generated by the clothes and air, Therefore, the scattered ray generated from lead will not reach the human body. The ICRU defines the epidermis (0.07), in which the radiation-induced damage of the skin occurs, as the dose equivalent. If the radiation dose of the dermis is considered in addition, it will be helpful for the evaluation of the prognosis for radiation hazard of the skin.
A relative-calibration-method of solid-state-track-detector for measurement of radon in air has been developed, and the concentration of radon in each room of a 15th-floor-apartment was measured by using the relative calibrated SSTD. There is a tendency to decrease the concentration of radon when the floor is higher, but the main factor to reduce the concentration of radon in room appeared to be ventilation rate. Average concentration of radon of the 15th-floor-apartment was $1.50{\pm}0.51pCi/l$, and the highest and the lowest concentration of radon were $2.68{\pm}0.32pCi/l$, $0.69{\pm}0.16pCi/l$ respectively.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the clinical risk according to the applicator heterogeneity, mislocation, and tissue heterogeneity correction through a dose verification program during brachytherapy of cervical cancer. We performed image processing with MATLAB on images acquired with CT simulator. The source was modeled and stochiometric calibration and Monte-Carlo algorithm were applied based on dwell time and location to calculate the dose, and the secondary cancer risk was evaluated in the dose verification program. The result calculated by correcting for applicator and tissue heterogeneity showed a maximum dose of about 25% higher. In the bladder, the difference in excess absolute risk according to the heterogeneity correction was not significant. In the rectum, the difference in excess absolute risk was lower than that calculated by correcting applicator and tissue heterogeneity compared to the water-based calculation. In the femur, the water-based calculation result was the lowest, and the result calculated by correcting the applicator and tissue heterogeneity was 10% higher. A maximum of 14% dose difference occurred when the applicator mislocation was 20 mm in the Z-axis. In a future study, it is expected that a system that can independently verify the treatment plan can be developed by automating the interface between the treatment planning system and the dose verification program.
