This study discusses the effect of using 232Th instead of 238U on the neutronic characteristics and the main operating parameters of the pressurized water reactor (PWR). MCNPX version 2.7 was used to compare the neutronic characteristics of UO2 with (Th, 235U)O2 and (Th, 233U) O2. Firstly, the infinity multiplication factor (Kinf), thermal neutron flux, and power distribution have been studied for the investigated fuel types. Secondly, the effect of Gd2O3 and Er2O3 on the Kinf and on the radial thermal neutron flux and thermal power has been investigated to distinguish which of them is more suitable than the other in reactivity management. Thirdly, to illustrate the effectiveness of 232Th in decreasing the inventory of both the actinides and non-actinides, the concentration of plutonium (Pu) isotopes and minor actinides (MAs) has been simulated with the fuel burnup. Besides, due to their large thermal neutron absorption cross-section, the concentrations of 135Xe, 149Sm, and 151Sm with the fuel burnup have been investigated. Finally, the main safety parameters such as the reactivity worth of the control rods (ρCR), the effective delayed neutron fraction βeff, and the Doppler reactivity coefficient (DRC) were calculated to determine to which extent these fuel types achieve the acceptable limits.

The turbulence stimulation effect of studs for boundary layer over a flat plate was investigated through the flow measurement in KRISO cavitation tunnel. For the test, Laser Doppler Velocimetry (LDV) and three flat plate models were used: (1) flat plate without studs; (2) flat plate with one stud row; (3) flat plate with two stud rows. The dimension and location of stud rows and the inflow speed were selected considering test conditions for standard-sized model ships in KRISO towing tank. The boundary layer characteristics of test models were analyzed and compared in terms of mean velocity profiles, turbulence intensity profiles, boundary layer thickness, and shape factor. In the case of the flat plate without studs, transition from laminar to turbulent flow occurred around Rex=3.83 ~ 5.19 × 105. In the case of flat plates with stud rows, the flow rapidly changed into turbulent flow right after passing the first stud row. In the state where turbulence was already developed, the second stud row slightly increased the turbulence intensity near the top of the stud, but did not significantly affect the boundary layer characteristics such as mean velocity distribution, boundary layer thickness, and shape factor.

In this paper, the image formation by the motion compensation technique for Synthetic Aperture Radar system(SAR) were realized through the computer simulation. The motion compensation technique performed image data with the range compression, the compensation procedure, the azimuth compensation and the noise elimination procedure. The range compression procedure transform the SAR raw data into the frequency domain and correlate with the range reference function and then inversely transform into the time domain. The compensation procedure contain the aircraft fluctuations compensation and the radar image degrading effect elimination procedure which was caused by image formation algorithm itself. The aircraft fluctuations compensation procedure perform the first stage which correct the phase angle and the second stage which calculate the Doppler frequency and determine the coordinate of the received signal. The radar image degrading effect elimination procedure also perform range migration compensation and the image defocussing effect compensation. The azimuth compression procedure transform the compensation data to the frequency domain and correlate with the azimuth reference function. The azimuth correlated data are inversely transformed to the time domain which is called SAR image data. When the above procedure were completed, the image data contains the received signals mixed with noise. The threshold technique was applied to elimination the noise from the mixed image data.

In this paper, we introduce a spatial sound rendering system that provides 6DoF spatial sound in real time in response to the movement of a listener located in a virtual environment. This system was implemented using MPEG-I AEP as a development environment for the CfP response of MPEG-I Immersive Audio and consists of an encoder and a renderer including a decoder. The encoder serves to offline encode metadata such as the spatial audio parameters of the virtual space scene included in EIF and the directivity information of the sound source provided in the SOFA file and deliver them to the bitstream. The renderer receives the transmitted bitstream and performs 6DoF spatial sound rendering in real time according to the position of the listener. The main spatial sound processing technologies applied to the rendering system include sound source effect and obstacle effect, and other ones for the system processing include Doppler effect, sound field effect and etc. The results of self-subjective evaluation of the developed system are introduced.

Numerical analysis and measurements of the velocity and temperature distributions in buoyancy assisting laminar mixed convection flow over a vertically located, two-dimensional backward-facing step are reported. Laser-Doppler Velocimeter and Constant Temperature Anemometer operated in constant current were used to measure simultaneously the velocity and temperature distributions in the recirculation region downstream of the step. The reattachment length was measured by using flow visualization technique for different inlet velocities, wall temperatures and step heights. While the reattachment length $X_r$ increases as the inlet velocity or step height increase, it decreases as the buoyancy force increases, causing the size of the recirculation region to decrease. For the experimental range of $Gr_s$/$Re_{s}^{2}$$\times$$10^3$<17, a correlation equation for the reattachment length can be given by $X_{r}=1.05(2.13+0.021 Re_{s})exp$$(-33.7_s^{-0.186}/Gr_{s}/Re_{s}^2).$ The Nusselt number is found to increase and the location of its maximum value moves closer to the step as the buoyancy force increases. The location of the maximum Nusselt number occurs downstream of the reattachment point, and distance between the reattachment point and the location of the maximum Nusselt mumber increases as the buoyancy force increases. Computational prediction agrees favorably well with measured results.

The underwater channel is known to offer poor communications channel. The channel medium is highly absorptive and the transmission bandwidth is limited. In addition, the channel is highly frequency selective; the degree of selectiveness depends on a detailed geometry of the channel. Furthermore, the response changes over time as the channel conditions affecting the response such as water temperature, sea surface wind and salinity are time-varying. The transceiver design to deal with the frequency and time selective channel, therefore, becomes very challenging. It has been known that deep fading at certain specific sub-carriers are detrimental to OFDM systems. To mitigate this negative effect, the proposed coded OFDM system employs an LDPC code based modulation. In this paper, we aim 1) to provide a detailed underwater channel model; 2) to design a robust LDPC coded OFDM system; 3) to test the proposed system under a variety of channel conditions enabled by the channel model.
Objective : This study was performed to evaluate the effects of Hap-Kok(LI4) and Jok-Sam-Lee(ST36) acupuncture on blood flow in In-Young(ST9). Method : Monitoring of TCD was examined in each 25's healthy men and wemen in 20s before and after acupucture on both(right and left) Hap-kok(LI4) and was done on both(right and left) Jok-Sam-Lee(ST36) by different group with same condition. Mean velocity and Pulsatility index analyzed from TCD at both In-Young(ST9). Both group was acupuctured for 15-20 minutes laying at bed. Results : The results showed a significant($p{\le}0.05:$ Paired T-test) decrease in mean velocity and increase in pulsatility index at both group. Conclusion : These results suggest that acupuncture could have a specific effect on blood flow called In-Young acupoint.

A specific radar system can be implemented more easily using the frequency modulated continuous wave comparing with the pulse Doppler radar. It also has the advantage of LPI (low probability of interception) because of the low power and wide bandwidth characteristics. These radars are usually used to cover the short range area and to obtain the high resolution measurements of the target range and velocity information. The transmitted waveform is used in the mixer to demodulate the received echo signal and the resulting beat signal can be obtained. This beat signal is analyzed using the FFT method for the purpose of clutter removal, detection of a target, extraction of velocity and range information, etc. However, for the case of short signal acquisition time, this FFT method can cause the serious leakage effect which disables the detection of weaker echo signals masked by strong side lobes of the clutter. Therefore, in this paper, the weighting window method is analyzed to suppress the strong side lobes while maintaining the proper main lobe width. Also, the results of FFT beat spectrum analysis are shown under various environments.

Background Radiation-induced skin injury is a dose-limiting complication of radiotherapy. To investigate this problem and to develop a framework for making decisions on treatment and dose prescription, a murine model of radiation-induced skin injury was developed. Methods The dorsal skin of the mice was isolated, and irradiation was applied at single doses of 15, 30, and 50 Gy. The mice were followed for 12 weeks with serial photography and laser Doppler analysis. Sequential skin biopsy samples were obtained and subjected to a histological analysis, immunostaining against transforming growth factor beta (TGF-${\beta}$), and Western blotting with Wnt-3 and ${\beta}$-catenin. Increases in the levels of TGF-${\beta}$, Wnt, and ${\beta}$-catenin were detected after irradiation. Results All tested radiation doses caused progressive dermal thickening and fibrosis. The cause of this process, however, may not be radiation alone, as the natural course of wound healing may elicit a similar response. The latent appearance of molecular and histological markers that induce fibrosis in the 15 Gy group without causing apparent gross skin injuries indicates that 15 Gy is an appropriate dose for characterizing the effects of chronic irradiation alone. Thus, this model best mimics the patterns of injury that occur in human subjects. Conclusions This animal model can be used to elucidate the gross and molecular changes that occur in radiation-induced skin injury and provides an effective platform for studying this adverse effect without complicating the process of wound healing.

Backgrounds: The present study in angulated coronary stenosis was to evaluate the influence of velocity and wall shear stress (WSS) on coronary atherosclerosis, the changes of hemodynamic indices following coronary stenting, as well as their effect of evolving in-stent restenosis using human in vivo hemodynamic parameters and computed simulation quantitatively and qualitatively. Methods: Initial and follow-up coronary angiographies in the patients with angulated coronary stenosis were performed (n=80). Optimal coronary stenting in angulated coronary stenosis had two models: < 50 % angle changed(model 1, n=43), > 50% angle changed group (model 2, n=37) according to percent change of vascular angle between pre- and post-intracoronary stenting. Flow-velocity wave obtained from in vivo intracoronary Doppler study data was used for in vitro numerical simulation. Spatial and temporal patterns of velocity vector and recirculation area were drawn throughout the selected segment of coronary models. WSS of pre/post-intracoronary stenting were calculated from three-dimensional computer simulation. Results: Follow-up coronary angiogram demonstrated significant difference in the percent of diameter stenosis between two groups (group 1: $40.3{\pm}30.2$ vs. group 2: $25.5{\pm}22.5%$, p<0.05). Negative WSS area on 3D simulation, which is consistent with re-circulation area of velocity vector, was noted on the inner wall of post-stenotic area before stenting. The negative WSS was disappeared after stenting. High spatial and temporal WSS before stenting fell into within physiologic WSS after stenting. This finding was prominent in Model 2 (p<0.01) Conclusions: The present study suggests that hemodynamic forces exerted by pulsatile coronary circulation termed as WSS might affect on the evolution of atherosclerosis within the angulated vascular curvature. Moreover, geometric change, such as angular difference between pre / post-intracoronary stenting might give proper information of optimal hemodynamic charateristics for vascular repair after stenting.
