The subject of this study was 309 first-time platelet donors visiting apheresis unit of St. Mary hospital in Seoul. The data was collected from Questionnaire during period of 28 April to 10 September 1999. The statistical methods used were t-test. ANOVA and stepwise multiple regression. The results were as follows. 1. The most common group were 21-30 years of age and soldier of job. 2. The mean scores of the platelet donor's anxiety was $1.60\pm0.32$. 3. The mean scores of platelet donor's discomfort was $1.72\pm0.44$. 4. The variables influencing anxiety were the physical condition. the level of education and donation experience. 5. The variables influencing discomfort were the job. diet before donation and physical condition. As the result above. the student group of the first time platelet donor experienced highest anxiety. It is important to assess the physical condition and diet before donation for more comfortable platelet donation. Furthermore. the developments of nursing interventions are required to reduce anxiety and discomfort of platelet donors.

  • As the patients who need to undergo liver transplant operation continues to grow. the number of livers that are donated can not keep pace with the demand. With the development of surgery skills, the necessity for operations from living donors is increasing. Nevertheless, satisfactory research has been conducted on the factors which generally affect the living donors. In this article. therefore. researchers focused on the factors which generally affect the donating liver donor in order to design a plan for recommending liver donation from living donors. The subjects were 91 living liver donors in C university hospital from October 1. 2000 to December 31. 2003. The results on the uncertainty of living donor, by test sheet. were analyzed with SAS program. The final results were as follows: 1. The uncertainty of the living donors was 51.54 marks per full credit 100. 2. The factor with the greatest effect on donation was the possibility of survival of the donor, followed by the admission period. marriage status and age. In recommending the living donation, the rate of donor survival after the operation was 5.2 times higher than death, 5.2 times higher when the admission period was under 20 days. 5.0 times higher when married. and 27.3 times higher when the family-related donation was very active at the age of 20s than in the 50s. These results suggest that all medical staffs should care for living donors with more interest and activity to give them the least complaints in admission and the lowest possibilities for complication. To enhance the survival rate and improve the surgical success rate. on-going monitoring should include regular health-checks. and continual efforts and education should be made to care for the health condition of the living donors after donation.

  • This study was conducted to improve the direction of extracurriculular education for health students and to establish and systematic extracurricular education and operation system. The needs and priorities of extracurricular education programs were investigated through a survey of health students. The data were analyzed by Borich's needs and The Locus for Focus Model. As a result of priorities of extracurriculular programs according to Borich's needs, the top 10 programs included 'certification', 'career exploration', 'overseas service', 'second language', 'employment education', 'talent donation', 'English', 'computer utilization', and 'major convergence learning'. As a result of priorities by applying The Locus for Focus Model, 'certification', 'career exploration', 'employment education', 'foreign service', 'English', 'domestic service', 'second foreign language', 'talent donation', and 'computer utilization' was included. A total of nine programs were derived by combining Borich and The Locus for Focus Model, and priorities were 'certification', 'career exploration', 'overseas service', 'second foreign language', 'employment education', 'talent donation', 'English', 'computer utilization', and 'domestic service'. As a result of this study, health students had a high needs for comparison programs for employment and volunteer programs, so universities should reflect this and establish a comparison program operation system for health students.

Their attitudes toward tissue donation and transplantation were significantly correlated with knowledge of hospice palliative care, perception of hospice palliative care, and withdrawal of life-sustaining treatment. Their awareness of death was significantly correlated with knowledge of hospice palliative care, perception of hospice palliative care and withdrawal of life-sustaining treatment. The perception of hospice palliative care was significantly correlated with withdrawal of life-sustaining treatment. Factors associated with their withdrawal of life-sustaining treatment were work at the hospice ward (32.5%), attitudes toward tissue donation and transplantation and perception of hospice palliative care. Conclusion: This study has shown that work at the hospice ward, attitudes toward tissue donation and transplantation and perception of hospice palliative care were related to attitudes toward withdrawal of life-sustaining treatment. More research is needed to further develop various curriculums based on biomedical methods.

  • There was heavy rains that happened for 23 days consecutively in 2006. Many regions have suffered because of rains and among them In-Je and Pyung-Chang area are the most suffered areas at that time. I conducted field survey at those two regions. The case of other damaged regions also reviewed in this paper and volunteer activity of volunteer groups is reviewed. I intended to make clear the volunteer activity system through analysing need capacity of volunteers. Main suggestions are as below. In management system, the nexts are discussed. Improving the ability of village headmen and volunteer groups that manage relief stuffs at the first level and cooperating method with companies are discussed. Supporting system for isolated regions and necessity about developing operating manual are suggested. In education system, specialized education for different disaster areas, field orientation education, and training managerial positions are suggested. In supporting system, improving NDMS(National Disaster Management System), computerized program for volunteer management, insurance for volunteers, issuing a confirmation of volunteering activity, securement of emergency communication system, budget for prevention and donation are also suggested.
