Properties of Charcoal Board Manufactured from Domestic Wood Waste

  • This research was carried out to examine the properties of black charcoal board, in order to find the proper manufacturing condition for the black charcoal-board made of the charcoal. The charcoal in this study was distillated from domestic wood waste, and it were also the purpose of this study to see if the black charcoal-board has the advantageous properties of charcoal as a well-being building material against the sick house problem. Domestic wood waste was consisted of MDF 40%, PB 30%, plywood 15% and wood 15%, respectively. Black charcoal board was produced by hot pressing with following conditions; temperature $170^{\circ}C$, three stage pressing cycle of $40-10-40\;kgf/cm^2$(1min.-2.5min.-5min.) and non formaldehyde adhesives [P15%+M5%:MDI(M), poly vinyl acetate emulsion(P). Fine mixed particle size [#6-12(16.9%), #12-18(16.7%), #12-40(47.2%), #40-60(9.5%), #60-100(5.9%), less than #100(3.8%)] gave better results than larger particle size [over #6(33.8%), #12-18(17.7%), #12-40(37.7%), #40-60(6.4%), #60-100(2.6%), less than #100(1.8%)]. Final moisture content of the mat was best at 36%. Black charcoal-board showed less MOR and IB(internal bond), more WA(water absorption) than that of white charcoal-board. Black charcoal board showed not only the same gas adsorption and dimensional stability as white charcoal board but also good cutting, nailing and drilling for indoor environment systems.

  • This study was carried out to manufacture black charcoal board from domestic wood waste by using serum protein adhesive which is natural, environment-friendly and human-friendly. For the preparation of the serum protein adhesive, pig blood from slaughterhouse was centrifuged and serum was separated from corpuscles and concentrated to 30% by dry weight basis. The particle size of charcoal from domestic wood waste for this study was #6-60. Hot pressing schedule was $170^{\circ}C$ and 40kgf/$cm^2$ (1 min)-10kgf/$cm^2$ (2.5 min)-40kgf/$cm^2$ (5 min). The black charcoal board made by the addition of 13% serum protein adhesive on dry weight basis gave 41.76kgf/$cm^2$ of bending strength, 8.12kgf/$cm^2$ of internal bonding strength, and excellent gas adsorption and workability.

국내 산업폐열 현황에 대한 조사연구 (An Investigation Study on Fact of Waste Heat of Domestic Industry)

  • Waste heat exhausted from seven types of the domestic industry was surveyed, which include food, fibre, paper & wood, chemical, ceramics, metalworking and others. The databases of waste heat for each industry were made by using ACCESS software of Microsoft, and data were analyzed to get correlation between waste heat and purchase energy. The volume of usable waste heat is estimated to be 9,169,000 TOE in the year of 2000, when the minimum available temperature is set as $100^{\circ}C$ for waste gas, $30^{\circ}C$ for hot water and $100^{\circ}C$ for steam considering the condition of waste heat exhausting facilities and surroundings. This volume of waste heat is approximately 11.9 percent of the purchase energy of the domestic industry.

목재 폐기물 재활용의 의의 및 필요성에 대한 고찰 (Investigation on the Significance and Necessity for Recycling of Wood Wastes)

  • In our country, most of the wood resources are imported. We faced a continuous rising of wood price by export country's some conditions and excess rising of transport charge, also a shortage of structural size members. In these situation, recycling or reuse of wood residues and wastes under wood processing industry, building construction and demolition is not a option but a prerequisite. In our country, there is a dearth of data on recycling or reuse of wood residues and wastes, so the investigation on the necessity of recycling or reuse of wood residues and wastes was conducted by using the foreign data and documents. First of all, fields and actual conditions for the domestic wood processing industry were surveyed. Then, kinds and signification of wood residues and wastes were organized. Later, the necessity and the signification of recycling or reuse of wood residues were investigated, and postulations for effective recycling and reuse were suggested. Above all, the necessity of grading standards for reuse or recycling and some important consideration for developing grading standards were emphasized. At last, foreign research tendencies and some applications on recycling or reuse of wood residues and wastes were supplemented.

건설현장 폐목재의 발생원인 분류를 통한 재활용 요인분석 (Recycling Factor Analysis on Wood Wastes in the Construction Site by Classification Origination Reason)

  • 본 연구에서는 건설폐목재의 발생현황 및 원인을 조사 분석하고, 국내 및 국외 폐목재의 발생, 처리, 재활용 동향을 비교, 분석하고자 한다. 오늘날 산업사회가 고도로 발달하면서 인간의 생활은 보다 편리하고 윤택해졌지만, 그 부작용으로 환경오염과 자원고갈 문제가 심각하게 대두되고 있다. 최근 건설 산업에서 환경보호와 자원의 절약 등이 중요한 이슈로 부각되고 있으며, 필연적으로 발생되는 건설폐기물의 관리와 재활용에 대한 관심도 증가되고 있다. 발생되는 폐기물은 양적으로도 증가했을 뿐만 아니라 질적으로도 매우 복잡 다양하여 이들의 원천적 감량과 재자원화 촉진 등 자원 순환형 처리방식의 절감방안이 모색되어야 한다. 그 중 폐목재는 건설현장에서 발생되는 여러 종류의 자원 중에서 약33%정도만 재활용하고 나머지는 소각하거나 비정상적인 유통과정을 거쳐 처리되어 지고 있다. 따라서, 건설현장 폐목재 처리현황의 실태 및 요인분석을 통하여 폐목재의 적법한 처리 및 재활용에 불합리한 원인은 무엇이며 그에 영향을 주는 수많은 변수들을 도출하고 요인분석을 통하여 몇 가지 요인으로 묶어 단순화하는 것에 목적을 두고 있다.

  • RDF 생산 기술은 국내 실정에 맞는 제조 설비로 자체 생산할 수 있는 단계이지만, 사업장 가연성 폐기물에 대한 연료화 설비가 구축된 사례는 드물다. 본 연구에서는 사업장 가연성 폐기물을 대상으로 한 RPF(Refuse Plastic Fuel) 제조 공정의 고형연료 제조 가능성에 대해 검토하였다. 고형연료는 폐합성수지, 폐지 및 폐목재의 지역별 폐기물 발생비율 기준으로 제조되었으며, 제조된 RPF의 물리적 특성을 조사하였다. 대경(대구, 경북)지역을 기준으로 제조된 RPF의 발열량이 가장 높게 나타났으며, 폐지와 폐목재의 첨가량이 늘어날수록 발열량은 감소하였다.

고형연료(SRF)시설로 반입되는 폐기물의 영향 및 유해성물질 등에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Noxious Materials in the Waste Shipped into Solid Recovered Fuel(SRF) Facilities and Their Influence)

  • This study carried out first a component survey on the domestic waste shipped into a waste disposal facility in B city, and then heavy metal analysis of each component according to the SRF standards. Based on this, this study explored the problems with domestic waste and measures to improve them. The results are as follows. The result of the survey of physical components show that paper accounted for the largest proportion with 20.5 %~59.9 %, metals (including batteries) among incombustibles accounted for 0.0~8.3 %, other inorganic substances, glass and ceramics accounted for 0.0~43.7 % and 0.0 %~19.6 % respectively. However, the proportion of coated viny and plastics, which have high lead and cadmium content, was rather high with 2.9 %~30.9 %. This suggests the possibility that actual concentration of lead and cadmium within SRF is likely to be higher. Among the 15 components contained in the waste brought into the waste disposal facility, 10 components (food waste, textiles, vinyl, plastics, wood, rubber and leather, paper, metals, electronic substrates, and nail polish) were analyzed according to assay samples (approximately 0.1 g and 0.3 g). The result of analysis shows that the amount of Cd and Pb detected in coated vinyl for 0.109 g of assay sample was 98.6 mg/kg and 20.6 mg/kg respectively; 117.0 mg/kg and 29.0 mg/kg respectively for 0.313 g of assay sample. This is high contents exceeding the Cd standard. As for wooden component, the amount of Pb was 480.0 mg/kg for 0.3 g of assay sample. This suggests that there always exists the possibility of exceeding the exposure level of heavy metals (Cd and Pb) in SRF as long as coated wood and vinyl plastics with high contents of Pb and Cd are shipped into the waste disposal facility; and the local government and the residents need to work hard to improve the situation including development of the machine to sort electronic substrates and batteries for separate collection of the waste of coated vinyl and plastics within domestic waste.

온실가스배출 감축사업(KVER) 제지목재 분야 인증 감축방법의 경제성 분석 (Economic Analysis of GHG Emission Reduction Methodology in Pulp, Paper and Wood Industry Approved by Korea Voluntary Emission Reduction Program)

  • The Energy and Green House Gas target management system was launched by the Korean Government in 2010. The Korea Emission Trading System will start in 2015. Therefore, simultaneous pursuit of energy saving and greenhouse emission reduction through energy use rationalization is an important obligation of Korean engineers, who import about 97% of domestic energy consumption. Economic analysis of the GHG emission reduction methodologies registered and approved by Korea Voluntary Emission Reduction (KVER) program was conducted. The results for waste heat recovery employed in an energy intensive pulp, paper and wood industry were reported. The emission reduction intensities were 9.7 kg $CO_2$/ton_pulp production. Net Present Value analysis showed that the GHG emission reduction was economically beneficial with an internal rate return of 60%. The results of exergy analysis indicated that the second law efficiencies of waste heat recovery system employed in KVER program were 77.3% and 53.6%. NPV decreased as the exergy decreased.

황산암모늄 주입시 바이오매스 발전소의 오염부하 특성 연구 (A Study on the Characteristics of Pollution Load in Biomass Power Plant with Ammonium Sulfate Injection)

  • Biomass-fired power plants produce electricity and heat by burning biomass in a boiler. However, one of the most serious problems faced by these plants is severe corrosion. In biomass boilers, corrosion comes from burnt fuels containing alkali, chlorine, and other corrosive substances, causing boiler tube failures, leakages, and shorter lifetimes. To mitigate the problem, various approaches implying the use of additives have been proposed; for example, ammonium sulfate is added to convert the alkali chlorides (mainly KCl) into the less corrosive alkali sulfates. Among these approaches, the high temperature corrosion prevention technology based on ammonium sulfate has few power plants being applied to domestic power plants. This study presents the results obtained during the co-combustion of wood chips and waste in a circulating fluidized bed boiler. The aim was to investigate the characteristics of pollution load in domestic biomass power plants with ammonium sulfate injection. By injecting the ammonium sulfate, the KCl content decreased from 68.9 to 5 ppm and the NOx were reduced by 18.5 ppm, but $SO_2$ and HCl were increased by 93.3 and 68 ppm, respectively.

2톤/일 고정층 가스화기를 이용한 폐목재의 에너지 전환 연구 (The Study of Energy Conversion in a 2 Ton/day Waste-wood Fixed Bed Gasifier)

  • 폐목재의 에너지 전환을 위하여 2톤/일 규모의 고정층 가스화기($0.9m{\times}2.4m$)를 제작하여 실험하였다. 고정층 가스화 설비는 3~5 cm의 목재칩을 이용하였으며 하부에는 회전식 스토커가 설치되어있다. 목재칩 연료 투입은 다단 나이프밸브 방식으로 되어 있으며 관성력 집진설비, 가스냉각용 열교환기, ID Fan 및 Cooling tower 등으로 구성되어져 있다. 가스화기는 $700{\sim}1000^{\circ}C$ 사이에서 조업하였으며 CO: 25~40 vol%, $H_2$: 7~12 vol%, $CH_4$: 2~4 vol%, $CO_2$: 12~24 vol%의 조성을 가지는 합성가스가 생성되었다. 합성가스 발열량은 $1100{\sim}1500kcal/Nm^3$으로 나타나 공업로의 적용이 가능하였다. 또한 합성가스의 가스 엔진을 통한 전력 생산도 가능하여 1~4 kW의 전력을 생산하였다.
