The objective of this study is to investigate the origin of the dolomite in the Pungchon Formation of the Choseon Supergroup near Taebaeg City, Kangwondo, Korea. The Pungchon Formation is composed of limestone, dolomitic limestone, and dolomite with thin beds of flat pebble conglomerate (FPC) and mudrock. Texturally, the dolomite in the Pungchon Formation can be divided into four types; 1) coarse-sized, xenotopic dolomite in massive dolomite, 2) medium-siEed, idiotopic dolomite in flat pebble conglomerate, 3) xenotopic dolomite replacing ooids, algalnodules, and echinoderms, and 4) the dolomite in mottled fabric. The dolomite in mottled fabric can be subdivided into three types; a) coarse-sized, xenotopic saddle dolomite cement, b) medium-sized, idiotopic, cloudy-centered, clear-rimmed (CCCR) dolomite, and c) coarse-sized, idiotopic dolomite. The carbon isotopic composition of the Pungchon dolomite is in the range of $-2.8-1.4\%_{\circ}(PBD)$, suggesting that the carbon isotopic composition was buffered by the preexisting marine carbonates. Lighter oxygen isotopic values ($\delta^{18}O-15.7-8.7\%_{\circ}, PBD$) indicate that the Pungchon dolomite may have formed under high temperature in a burial diagenetic environment. The higher initial $^{87}Sr/^{86}Sr$ ratio of the Pungchon dolomite (0.7010-0.7161) than that of the coeval Cambrian seawater (0.7088-0.7092) indicates that dolomitizing fluids had been modified from the isotopic exchange with continental crust. Low Sr and Na contents(<200 ppm) of dolomite agree well with previously reported data for burial dolomite. Hifh Fe and Mn contents of the dolomite support the idea that the Pungchon dolomite may have formed in a deep burial diagenetic environment.
MgO clinker and two kinds of dolomite clinkers with different microstructures and CaO contents were used as starting materials, and the effects of Fe2O3 addition on the properties of MgO and dolomite were investigated in the range of 2 to 8 wt% of Fe2O3 content. Secondary phases contributed to densification of MgO-Fe2O3 and dolomite-Fe2O3 were magnesioferrite and dicalciumferrite, respectively. Sinterabilities of MgO-Fe2O3 and dolomite-Fe2O3 were directly proportional to the amount of secondary phases. Also, sinterability of dolomite itself was dependent on the microstructure of starting material including distribution of CaO and MgO as well as the addition amount of Fe2O3. The flexural strength of MgO-Fe2O3 content was almost constant. The hydration resistance of dolomite with large size of MgO and discontinuous distribution of CaO was higher than that of dolomite with small size of MgO and continuous distribution of CaO. Also, the minimum content of Fe2O3 to prevent they hydration of dolomite was about 4wt%. As increasing Fe2O3 content, the penetration resistance of MgO-Fe2O3 was improved by the increment of magnesioferrite. On the other hand, the penetration resistance of dolomite-Fe2O3 was decreased because of the increment of dicalciumferrite having low melting point.
Wastewater treatment plants need to reduce phosphorus in order to meet increasingly stringent regulations on phosphorus. This study evaluated the feasibility of dolomite as a coagulation aid to enhance phosphorus removal from secondary treated wastewater by chemical coagulation. Standard jar tests were conducted to evaluate the effect of dolomite addition on a coagulation process for phosphorus removal and to determine the optimum doses of coagulants and dolomite. Coagulants used with dolomite yielded a significant improvement in phosphorus removal and reduced total phosphorus concentrations below 0.02 mg/L in wastewater effluent. Dolomite has played an important role in enhancing phosphate adsorption and increasing pH, as a coagulation aid. The maximum removal efficiency of phosphorus in this study was yielded at 25 mg/l of dolomite and 20 mg Al/L of PAC dose. However, considering economic aspects, the optimum doses of dolomite and PAC were 10 mg/L and 15mg Al/L, respectively. Consequently, dolomite, a coagulation aid, can be used in coagulation processes to enhance the removal of phosphorus.
The marble-type dolomite from the Jasung Mine, which was farmed by duplicated affects of contact metamorphism and subsequent hydrothermal alteration, corresponds to a high-purity dolomite ranging up to above 98wt.% in dolomite contents. The dolomite contain minor impurities such as quartz, muscovite, and pyrite. It is characteristic that the dolomite is fairy Fe-rich corresponding to 0.4 wt.% due to the presence of pyrite of possible hydrothermal origin. The dolomite is nearly white-colored and constituting with subhedral crystals ranging $0.35{\sim}0.46mm$M in size, forming equigranular texture. Compared to the typical high-Ca limestone from the Pungchon Formation, the powder characteristics of dolomite is rather superior in milling efficiency, yields of fine particles, and size distribution. In addition, except for iron contents, the dolomite powder is no less superior than the limestone in quality and characteristics as fillers with respects to not only whiteness, oil absorption, and specific surface area but also shape characters such as elongation ratio, aspect ratio, and sphericity. This good characteristics of dolomite powder seem to be originated basically from comparatively higher grade and crystallinity of dolomite. Higher iron contents and the presence of sulfides prevents the dolomite from application for uses by thermal treatment, except for metallic manufacture. However, if proper ore separation procedure is available, the dolomite can be sufficiently utilized as substitutes for high-Ca limestone in most fields of filler industries.
The use of dolomite refractories has increased during the past several years in the manufacturing of clean steel during the stainless steelmaking process. However, at the same time, the use of dolomite refractories has led to what is known as the skull formation. In the present work, to understand the skull formation, the wetting characteristics of dolomite substrates by liquid Fe-19wt%Cr-10wt%Ni alloys in various oxygen partial pressures were initially investigated at 1753K using the sessile drop technique. For comparison, the wetting characteristics of alumina substrates were investigated with the same technique. It was found that the wetting index, (1+$cos{\theta}$), of dolomite is approximately 40% higher compared to those of alumina. In addition, the oxygen partial pressure to generate the surface oxide, which may capture the liquid metal on the refractory surface, for dolomite is much lower than that for alumina. From this study, it was concluded that the use of dolomite is much more closely associated with the skull formation compared to the use of alumina due to the stronger wettability and the surface oxide formation at a lower oxygen partial pressure of dolomite.
To develope chemical heat pump using available energy sources, solar heat and other kinds of waste thermal energy, we have studied the heat transfer rate in cylindrical bed reactor packed with calcined Dolomite. Two dimensional (radial and circumferential) Partial differential equations, concerning heat and mass transfer in packed bed of calcined Dolomite, are solved numerically to describe the characteristics of the reaction of calcined Dolomite and heat transfer. The results obtained by numerical analysis about two dimensional profiles of temperature and conversion of reactant in the packed bed reactor and the amount of exothermic heat released from the reactor are follows. It was found that all of calcined Dolomite packed bed kept the reaction temperature of about 750K throughout the entire part of the bed, immediately after the steam was introduced exothermic reaction of hydration was proceeded from the packed bed inpu to output and from wall side to center. The rate of thermochemical reaction depends on the temperature and concentration and it is also governed by the boundary conditions and heat transfer rate in the particle packed bed.
For dolomite clinkers used as stamp materials, the corrostion behavior of those by slag was inverstigated between 1550$^{\circ}C$ and 1650$^{\circ}C$. Fe2O3 among slag components was selectively penetrated into the grain boundaries of dolomite clinkers. In hot face, the magnesioferrite was preferentially formed by Fe2O3 component contained in dolomite clinker rather than Fe2O3 of slag. The corrosion steps of dolomite clinkers by slag were found as follows ; (1) The dicalciumferrite was formed by the reaction of the calcia within dolomite clinkers with Fe2O3 of slag. (2) The magnesia within dolomite clinkers reacted with the dicalciumferrite to from magnesioferrite and the residual calcia within dolomite clinkers reacted with the dicalciumferrite to form magnesioferrite and the residual calcia was dissolved into slag. (3) The magnesioferrite was corroded by CaO-SiO2 compounds of slag. With the temperature of slag increased, the magnesioferrite layer in hot face was decreased for dolomite clinker without Fe2O3 while the layer thickness and grain sizes of magnesioferrite was increased for dolomite clinker with Fe2O3.
The Daeheung Dolomite Mine, which is about 6km south of Danyang, Chungcheongbugdo, is coincided with almost central portion of the Danyang quardrangle scaled in 1 : 50,000. The purpose of this report is to prepare a information for the economic evaluation on the mine. Geology of the region is composed of worm-eaten limestone, crystalline limestone, crystalline dolomite rock, sandstone and shale from bottom, those are applicable to socalled Dumugol and Maggol formation of Ordovician, and batholithic biotite granite is intruded the west-side of the ditto sedimentary rocks. The dolomite bed, emplaced in bottom of the upper limestone formation, so-called Maggol formation, is about 270m in thickness, and dips $30^{\circ}{\sim}50^{\circ}$ northwest. The facies of the dolomite rock contained many brucite crystals is not only coarse-grained crystalline, but also micro crystalline in contact metasomatic parts. 25 samples were taken from the two series, A and B, in the nearly crossed direction to the strike of the dolomite bed as shown in the geological map. They were chemically analysed on the components of MgO, CaO, and $SiO_2$ as shown in Table 2. The estimate ore reserves total some 107,200,000 metric tons above the 320m level with the following average contents: MgO 21.80%, CaO 29.27% and $SiO_2$ 0.64%. It is caused by brucite minerals that MaO content in the dolomite rock is higher than pure dolomite (21.7%). The dolomite ore is possible in use for magnesian fertilizer, magnesian cement and refractory material, especially the microcrystalline dolomite ore is useful for a refractory material in furnaces of iron industries.
To develope chemical heat pump using available energy sources, solar heat and other kinds of waste thermal energy, we have studied the material and heat transfer rate in the cylindrical bed reactor packed with Calcined Dolomite. Our results from the studies are as follows ; 1 The time needed to complete dehydration reaction at the wall side of the cylindrical reactor(r/rL=0.5) was shorter than that of the center(r/rL=0.0) as much as 12%. 2. Two dimensional (radial and circumferential) partial differential equations, concerning heat and mass transfer rate in the packed bed of calcined Dolomite, are solved numerically to describe the characteristics of the reaction in the cylindrical reactor. The solution reads rate of reaction in the packed bed reactor depends on the temperature and concentration of reactants. These results read the supplied heat transfers from the wall side of the cylinder to the center, dehydration reaction begins at the inner side of the wall of the cylindrical reactor and the dehydration reaction proceeds from the wall side to center of cylinder.

The main objective of this research was to evaluate the potentials of self-compacting concrete (SCC) mixes to develop bond strength. The investigated mixes incorporated relatively high contents of dolomite powder replacing Portland cement. Either silica fume or fly ash was used along with the dolomite powder in some mixes. Seven mixes were proportioned and cast without vibration in long beams with 10 mm and 16 mm steel dowels fixed vertically along the flowing path. The beams were then broken into discrete test specimens. A push-put configuration was adopted for conducting the bond test. The variation of the ultimate bond strength along the flowing path for the different mixes was evaluated. The steel-concrete bond adequacy was evaluated based on normalized bond strength. The results showed that the bond strength was reduced due to Portland cement replacement with dolomite powder. The addition of either silica fume or fly ash positively hindered further degradation as the dolomite powder content increased. However, all SCC mixes containing up to 30% dolomite powder still yielded bond strengths that were adequate for design purpose. The test results demonstrated inconsistent normalized bond strength in the case of the larger diameter compared to the smaller one.
