프로바이오틱스를 첨가한 반려동물 사료 개발에 관한 연구 및 현황: 총설 (Research and Status on the Development of Companion Animal Food with the Addition of Probiotics: A Review)

  • Currently, various probiotics are being used to improve the nutrition of companion animals. They are widely sold as additives in companion animal foods because of the numerous gastrointestinal and immune health benefits for dogs and cats. Therefore, extensive research is being conducted to improve quality and safety during manufacturing and to extend the shelf life of companion animal foods by adding probiotics. The manufacturing process must be conducted such that the characteristics and efficacy of probiotics added to food are optimally beneficial for companion animals. Therefore, this review aims to address the overall characteristics of the probiotic strains used and to examine the various methods through which probiotics are added to companion animal foods.

Serodiagnosis of Toxocariasis by ELISA Using Crude Antigen of Toxocara canis Larvae

  • Toxocariasis is a worldwide zoonosis caused by larvae of ascarid nematodes of dogs or cats, Toxocara canis or T. cati. Diagnosis of human toxocariasis currently relies on serology that uses T. canis excretory-secretory antigen to detect specific IgG antibodies by ELISA. We investigated the serodiagnostic efficacy of ELISA using crude antigen of T. canis larvae (TCLA). Serum specimens of 64 clinically confirmed toxocariasis, 115 healthy controls, and 119 other tissue-invading helminthiases were screened by ELISA using TCLA. The ELISA using TCLA showed 92.2% (59/64 patient samples) sensitivity and 86.6% (103/119) specificity. Its positive diagnostic predictivity was 78.7% and negative predictivity was 97.8%. No serum of healthy controls reacted but that of anisakiasis (45.5%), gnathostomiasis (19.2%), clonorchiasis (15.8%), sparganosis (11.1%), and cysticercosis (6.3%) cross-reacted. Immunoblot analysis on TCLA recognized antigenic proteins of 28- and 30-kDa bands in their dominant protein quantity and strong blotting reactivity. The present results indicate that the ELISA using our TCLA antigen is acceptable by the sensitivity and specificity for serodiagnosis of human toxocariasis. ELISA with TCLA is recommended to make differential diagnosis for patients with any sign of organ infiltration and eosinophilia.

  • The population of domestic companion animals is estimated to be about 10 million now. In recent years, the domestic pet market has been launching a wide range of products and services for high quality, smart and well-being. As a result, the market size will increase from 900 billion won in 2012 to 2.3 trillion won in 2016, which has more than doubled in five years. The industry expects to reach 6 trillion won by 2020, expecting 3 trillion won this year. In particular, domestic dogs and cats market is estimated at 275.5 billion won, accounting for 19% of the domestic animal market and 1.425 billion won for the world market. However, despite the growing market for companion animals products, unfortunately the import dependence on related industrial goods is still high and the quality of service is very low. Unlike Europe and the United States, 90% of companion animals are housed in apartments, often causing problems in the health and safety of companions and companions. The purpose of this study is to develop a smart house for companion animals with environmental friendliness and AI function that can be won in competition with products of developed countries. The results of this study are expected to contribute to the creation of a new value - added base for the related industries through the strengthening of the competitiveness of the related SMEs and further the effect of employment increase and import substitution.

반려동물병원의 이용만족에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Effect on the Satisfaction of Pet Hospital )

  • 본 연구는 반려동물병원의 이용만족에 미치는 영향을 파악하고자 수행되었다. 이러한 연구를 위해 전국의 개, 고양이를 양육하는 보호자이면서, 반려동물병원을 이용하는 고객을 연구대상으로 하였다. 반려동물병원의 이용만족에 영향을 미치는 요인으로 전문성, 인적 요인, 효율성, 물리적 요인, 반려동물 만족을 도출하였다. 이 중 인적 요인은 수의사, 스탭, 반려동물 미용사로 3개의 요인을 세부적 요인으로 포함시켰으며, 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 연구 결과, 전문성, 효율성, 물리적 요인이 이용만족에 정(+)의 영향을 미치고, 인적 요인의 세부적 요인인 수의사, 스탭은 이용만족에 정(+)의 영향을 미치며, 반려동물 미용사는 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 분석되었다. 전체적으로 효율성, 전문성, 스탭, 수의사, 반려동물 만족, 물리적 요인 순으로 이용만족에 영향을 미치는 것으로 분석되었다. 본 연구는 반려동물병원의 이용만족에 영향을 주는 요인으로 인적 요인을 직군으로 구분하여 분석하고, 반려동물 만족 요인을 개발하여 분석했다는 점에서 의미가 있으며, 반려동물병원에서 고객의 이용만족을 높이기 위한 전략을 수립하는데 도움을 줄 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

Flow cytometric immunophenotyping of canine adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (ADMSCs) and feline ADMSCs using anti-human antibodies

  • Various trials have been conducted to develop therapies for serious untreatable diseases. Among these, those using stem cells have shown great promise, and adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (ADMSCs) are easier to obtain than other types of stem cells. Prior to clinical trials, characterization of ADMSCs with monoclonal antibodies should be performed. However, it is difficult to use species-specific antibodies for veterinarians. This study was conducted to confirm the panel of human antibodies applicable for use in immunophenotypic characterization of canine adipose-derived stem cells and feline ADMSCs extracted from subcutaneous adipose tissue collected during ovariohysterectomy. For flow cytometric immunophenotyping, the third passages of canine ADMSC and feline ADMSC and human CD31, CD34, CD42, CD44, CD62 and CD133 antibodies were used. Of these, CD133 reacted with canine cells (3.74%) and feline cells (1.34%). CD133 is known as a marker related with more primitive stem cell phenotype than other CD series. Because this human CD133 was not a species-specific antibody, accurate percentages of immunoreactivity were not confirmed. Nevertheless, the results of this study confirmed human CD133 as a meaningful marker in canine and feline ADMSCs.

카리니주폐포자충 장염에 대한 여러 포유동물 및 흰쥐 계통에 따른 감수성 (Susceptibility of various animals to Pneumocystis carinii infection)

  • 국내에서 카리니주폐포자충(Pneumocystis carinii, 이하 Pc) 연구에 적합한 동물모델을 개발하고자, 총 7종류 의 실험동물(흰쥐, 기니픽, 햄스터, 개, 고양이, 토끼 및 돼지)에 methyl prednisolone(Depomedrol", Korea Upiohn Ltd.)을 주사하여 면역억제를 유발하고 폐를 슬라이드 글라스에 문질러 도말표본을 만들었다. 도말표본을 Diff Quik 염색 후 광학현미경으로 관찰하여 Pc의 감염전도를 음성 (0), 0.5+, 1+, 2+ 및 3+의 5등급으로 구분하였다. 실험동물 중 흰쥐에서만 Pc폐염이 유발되고 다른 동물에서는 Pc를 관찰하지 못하였다. 대부분 의 동물은 전신쇠약의 증세를 보였으며, 대체로 면역억제 6주경부터 사망하기 시작하였다. 흰쥐의 경우 실험한 세 계통 모두에서 감염을 확인하였다. Sprague-Dawley 흰쥐의 경우 총 136마리 중 86마리63.2%)가 Pc 감염 되었고, Fisher 휜쥐는 76마리 중 63마리 (82.9%)에서, Wistar 흰쥐는 106마리 중 77마리 (72.6%)에서 Pc 감염 이 양성이었다. 감염정도와 시기에서도 차이가 있어서 Wistar 흰쥐에서 더 이른 시기에 높은 감염정도로 관찰되었다. 이상의 결과에 의하면 Pc 병원체를 얻기에는 흰쥐 세 계통 중 Wistar 흰쥐가 Pc연구에 가장 적합한 실험동물이고 그외의 실험동물은 Pc 감염에 적합하지 않음을 확인하였다.

  • 4, 8, 12, 20 주령의 미성숙 미니돼지에서 방사선과 초음파를 이용하여 복부 주요 장기의 형태학적 특징을 살펴보았다. 방사선 검사는 전반적인 장기의 형태를 확인하는 데 이용되는 가장 기본적이고 단순한 방법이다. 기본 복부방사선 사진에서 이용되는 평가해야 할 항목들은 우선 전반적인 복부세부음영의 정도, 간, 위, 비장, 신장, 방광, 장들의 위치, 크기, 형태, 변연, 후복강 평가이다. 초음파 검사는 이러한 주요 장기들의 내부 실질을 평가하는 데 주로 사용된다. 미니돼지는 개와 고양이와 비교했을 때 유사한 소견을 가진 것을 확인하였다.

시화호 인공습지 동물상 조사연구 (A Faunal Study in the Shihwa Constructed Wetland)

  • The Shihwa wetland, a newly developed constructed wetland prototype in Korea with an area of approximately 104 ha, was established to improve the water quality severely polluted inflow streams into Lake Shihwa. Because this wetland could play a role as an ecological park in addition to improving the water quality, an ecological impact of the Shihwa constructed wetland has been a national concern. This paper focused on reporting the survey results for fauna among the entire investigation results for 3 years. A total of 129 terrestrial insect species have been observed from August 2001 to June 2002. Among them, Ischnura asiatica (Brauer) (order Odonata), Scymnus species (order Coleoptera) and Orthopteran species were frequently found in the reed bushes. A total of 77 bird species were recorded in a seasonal count, the maximum number of species was 34 in winter and the maximum number of individuals was 4,599 in summer. For the freshwater fish, only 4 species were found in 2000, however in 2001 and 2002, 12 species and 459 individuals were collected at four survey points. Among these 12 species, the dominant species were Mugil cephalus(36%), followed by Carassius auratus (25%) and Rhinogobius brunneus (22%). Meanwhile,12 individuals of Oryzias latipes were observed nearby, mostly downstream of the wetland. For the Herpetofauna at four survey areas, 3 species of amphibians and 3 species of reptiles were recorded. Because of remaining salinity in the soil of the Shiwha constructed wetland, Herpetofauna inflow to the wetland was scanty and mainly inhabited the upstream area. A total of 8 mammal species were recorded. Small-sized species were the striped field mouse, the Ussurian harvest-mouse, the Manchurian reed vole and the brown rat. Middle- and large-sized species were Korean water-deer, Korean raccoon dogs, Korean yellow weasels and feral cats.

AIDS-related Zoonotic Pathogen, Enterocytozoon bieneusi

  • Enterocytozoon bieneusi는 특히 AIDS환자에게 치명적인 질병을 초래하는 세균과 원충 중간단계의 병원체로서 현재 $30\~50\%$의 발생률오 AIDS환자로부터 가장 많이 발생되는 병원체로 알려져 있다. 하지만 이 병원체는 1980년 후반에서야 비로서 학계의 주목을 받기 시작했으며 환자에게 심한 만성설사, 기력 쇠진, 악성 영양 결핍 등을 주 임상증상으로 하고 있다. 이렇게 다양하고 심각한 질병을 일으킴에도 불구하고 현재까지 이 병원체에 대한 연구가 미흡하였다. 현재 이 병원체에 대한 가장 중요한 연구 중 연구 중 하나는 이 병원체에 대한 AIDS환자로의 전파 경로이다. 최근 여러 각도의 동물야외 조사 및 실험동물을 이용한 연구를 토대로 AIDS환자에 대한 이 병원체의 전파가능성은 감염동물에서부터 전파가 가장 중요한 경로가 될 거라 보고되고 있다.

애견의상 디자인 개발에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Development of Pets Wear Design)

  • Nowadays, the family system has changed from a large extended family group to a more nuclear family and the number of people who live by themselves has been increasing. Moreover, Korea is becoming an aged society, and pets are becoming more important as leave the family home. So a lot of people in Korea now consider pets as their family members due largely to the drastic change of their life style. Therefore, the rate of importing commodities for pets like cats and dogs has been increasing dramatically. In this study, in response to the growing interest in the pet industry, I have studied recent trends and types in the pets wear markets which are still in the first stage of development in Korea. In order to enhance the possibility of mass producing pets ready-made clothes for making the unit cost lower, firstly, I presented a new basic design and pattern of pets wear made up of general textile. After that, following basic purpose of pet wear, I classified decorative clothes into party wear, everyday wear and street wear and then I developed the pattern and made a pair of works for each item totaling 6 in all. I hope that the number of Korean companies which can enhance their reputation through by marketing these products in Korean as well as all around the world will increase. I believe this will be possible because by taking advantage of the easy pattern developed in this thesis. They will be able to mass produce their own high quality pets wear brand.
