México: Ambiente, cultura y sociedad. Un análisis desde la perspectiva del modelo RECREA

  • In the Mexican territory the cultural diversity is associated with the environmental diversity, this is demonstrated by the presence of native groups that inhabit the regions of the country, which are characterized by the management of various natural resources that they obtain from the terrestrial and aquatic environments of each of the regions. Through the RECREA Model: complex thinking, information and communication technologies and research-action, complemented with fundamentals of geography, environmental geography, cultural ecology, field work and cartographic information, we explained and analyzed the association between environmental diversity and cultural diversity to demonstrate that in Mexico there are still links between the environment, society and culture, a situation that determines the existence of human groups that subsist in the context of a global capitalist system that extracts in an unsustainable way natural resources. Based on these results, an instructional model is made to put it to practice with international students, in this case from Japan and South Korea, to allow the observation of its functionality in transmitting the aforementioned results on environmental and cultural diversity in Mexico during the teaching-learning process.

Effects of Market Diversity on Performance of Exporting Companies: An Inverted U-shaped Relationship

  • Purpose - The principle aim of this study is to further investigate the relationship between market diversity and export performance. We examine the benefits and costs of geographic market diversity regarding the number of countries exported to by firms on their export performance. Based on the financial risk reduction model and the entry costs model, we propose a way to incorporate the costs and benefits aspects of market diversity. Design/methodology - To empirically investigate our research question, the curvilinear relationship between market diversity and export performance, we built a secondary panel data set between 2015 and 2019, containing 17,863 observations of Korean exporting companies. A generalized least squares panel estimator with fixed effects was employed to test the hypothesis, and the statistical package, Stata 14, was used. Findings - Our main findings are as follows: As market diversity increases, export performance increases because exporters can diversify and reduce financial risks in export markets. However, the relationship between the two does not grow. As it peaks, the entry costs increase due to the high market diversity, thereby outweighing the benefits, leading, eventually to decrease in the export performance. Consequently, there is an inverted U-shaped relationship between market diversity and export performance. Originality/value - In the export and trade literature, the impact of market diversity on export performance has not been addressed yet, despite the importance of this subject. Many scholars have assumed a positive linear relationship between the two, considering only the decrease in market risks as the number of overseas markets increases, without examining the increase in the entry and management costs. Therefore, our study contributes by providing a new perspective for analyzing the characteristics and outcomes of market diversity.

  • This paper presents two social and academic studies on the boundary between cultural production and consumption. The first line of the study on cultural omnivore analyzes the choice of heterogeneous audiences in the face of various cultural offerings. The second line is a study of market categories, which analyzes the responses of peer audiences to objects with different levels of category code compliance. As such, this paper developed a heterogeneous audience model to evaluate objects of different types. This allows us to consider two dimensions of cultural preference: diversity and orientation of selection. To this end, this paper proposes a new analytical frame work to map consumption behavior on these two dimensions. The results suggest that one type of target that values diversity and transformation is particularly resistant to those that span boundaries. We test this argument in the analysis of two large data sets on film and restaurant reviews. Overall, our findings can extend beyond cultural consumption. Outline variability of contextual individuals or individuals in the same situation can cross cultural boundaries even if they are not intentionally pursuing such hybridism.

An Empirical Study on e-Business Competence and Export Performance of the Small and Medium Sized Firms (중소기업의 e-비즈니스 역량 및 수출성과에 관한 연구)

  • This study investigate the effects of environmental and organizational characteristics on e-business competence and the influence of e-business competence on export performance in the small and medium sized firms. The development of the research model is based on the literature of e-business and the empirical studies of information technology competence. The data from the survey was analyzed using Partial Least Squares(PLS). The results from the empirical model suggest that e-business competence is affected by environmental uncertainty and market diversity as well as top management support and learning orientation. And, export performance is enhanced by e-business competence.

  • Team-members may have diverse backgrounds and characteristics and such diversity is getting increased in teams in terms of demographics(gender, age, and educations) and capabilities(knowledge, skills, and experiences). A meta-analysis of the last 40 years studies, however, concluded that diversity in teams does not have the consistent main effect on team performances. On the other hand, according to theories of selection and socialization, similarity in values, backgrounds, and experiences buttress the positive and effective working environment. Therefore, we conduct an empirical study in favor of similarity in work teams for the sake of team effectiveness. We investigated the importance of the similarity of team-members on IT team effectiveness. Two aspects of similarity, demographic and cognitive, were considered together. The shared mental model(SMM) was introduced as the representative construct for the cognitive similarity. We found that SMM is more important than the demographic similarities on team effectiveness.

Virtual System Buffer Model in Flexible Manufacturing Systems with an AGV System (AGVS를 포함한 FMS에서의 가상 시스템버퍼 모델에 관한 연구)

  • This research is concerned with buffer management in a multi-cell FMS with an AGVS. Buffers in manufacturing systems are required to reduce blocking and starving caused by breakdowns, variability in process times, and diversity of part routing. Due to the high per unit buffer cost, which primarily consists of floor space and equipment costs, the total capacity of buffers in and FMS is very limited. Proper buffer management can provide a high system efficiency. This paper presents a buffer management model for a multi-cell FMS with an AGVS and a simulation study to compare the proposed model to a conventional buffer management model in a job shop FMS.

Analysis of Bird Species Diversity Response to Structural Conditions of Urban Park - Focused on 26 Urban Parks in Cheonan City - (도시공원 구조 및 식생 조건에 따른 조류 종다양성 분석 - 천안시 26개 도시공원을 대상으로 -)

  • The urban park has important functions as a habitat for wildlife as well as open space of rest and community for people. This study was carried out to find what factors of structure and vegetation of urban parks could affect forest bird species diversity in Cheonan city. The study surveyed bird and vegetation species in 26 urban parks, Cheonan city. A correlation analysis and multiple linear regressions were performed to test whether habitat structure and vegetation were the major correlate with species diversity. The results showed the Dujeong park was the most high bird species diversity (H' = 2.13), and the Dujeong-8 park (H' = 2.02) and the Cheongsa park (H' = 1.73) were considerably higher than the other urban parks. The variables that were strongly correlated with bird species diversity were park area, number of subtree species, canopy of shrub, number of shrub species, shape index, canopy of subtree, canopy of tree, and impervious surface ratio. The regression of bird species diversity against the environmental variables showed that 3 variables of park area, canopy of subtree, and canopy of tree were included in the best model. Model variable selection was broadly similar for the 5 optimal models. It means park area and multi-layer vegetation were the most consistent and significant predictor of bird species diversity, because urban parks were isolated by built-up areas. Especially the subtree coverage that provides shelter and food for forest birds was an important variable. Therefore, to make parks circular-shaped and abundant multi-layer vegetation, which could be a buffer to external disturbances and improve the quality of habitats, may be used to enhance species diversity in creation and management of urban parks.

Development of Evaluation Model on Greenspace for Sustainability of Site-scale Development Projects (단지규모 개발사업의 지속가능성 확보를 위한 녹지 평가 모형 개발)

  • This study aims to develop the model of evaluation on greenspace to increase the sustain ability of the planning and management for site-scale development projects. The results of this study can be summarized as follows: (1) The comprehensive principles of sustainable development projects were established, which include coexistence of man and nature, reflection of ecological principles, minimization of environmental pollution and damage, recycling and reuse of materials. (2) According to established principles, the evaluation criteria were classified into seven categories as follows: retention of ample greenspace, formation of greenspace as a habitat, species diversity of vegetation, consideration of indigenous plants, construction of green network, conservation of greenspace, and reuse of plant materials. (3) As a result of the analysis of questionnaire of experts, evaluation model was worked out with which we can evaluate environmental friendliness greenspace. And, the final evaluation indicators for greenspace are the rate of greeneries volume, securing habitat, indigenous plants, reuse of plant materials, and species diversity of vegetation, and the indicator of greenspace conservation.

  • This research is concerned with buffer management in a multi-cell FMS(Flexible Manufacturing System) with an AGVS(Automated Guided Vehicle System).   • The purpose of this study is to investigate factors influencing Chinese consumers' intention to adopt Smartphones. This paper examines Smartphone characteristics factors (situational dependence, diversity and security) and consumer personality characteristics (innovation, self-efficacy and familarity) based on the Technology Acceptance Model. The 320 sets of data are tested against the model using SEM (structural equation model). The research results reveal that diversity and security have significant influences on both perceived usefulness and perceived playfulness. According to the data analysis, self-efficacy affects only perceived easy of use, and familiarity positively affects perceived easy of use, usefulness and playfulness. This study finds that perceived easy of use and perceived usefulness have positive influences on behavioral intention to adopt Smartphones, and situational dependence and innovation directly affect the behavioral intention. The perceived cost has a negative impact on the behavioral intention. Research results are discussed, and limitations of the current study and future research are presented.
