  • Recently, the more advanced control technologies are required to deal with the fast and accurate motion in manipulators. For these requirements, many manipulator control methods have been developed such as a computed torque method. This paper proposes a design method, a two-degrees-of-freedom internal model control (TDOF IMC), of the manipulator position control based on combination of the one-degree-of-freedom internal model control (ODOF IMC) system and the disturbance observer.   • In variable structure control algorithms, The control law used to realized the desired sliding mode dynamics is discontinuous on the switching manifold. However, due to imperfections in switching, such as time delays, the system trajectory chatters instead of sliding along the switching manifold. This chattering is undesirable because it may excite unmodeled high frequency dynamics in the physical system. In this paper, to overcome this drawback a self-organizing fuzzy sliding mode control algorithm using gradient descent method is proposed. The proposed method has the characteristics which are viewed in conventional VSC, e.g. insensitivity to a class of disturbance, parameter variations and uncertainties ill the sliding mode. To demonstrate its performance, the proposed control algorithm is applied to an inverted pendulum system. The results show that both alleviation of chattering and performance are achieved.

  • Under the condition of stable inverse a billinear model predictive control method for SISO and MIMO system with time delay is derived. For processes subject to a bounded disturbance the proposed control method with a classical recursive adaptation algorithm was shown to be stable in the sense of the convergence of parameter estimates and the boundedness of the control error. Several simulation results demonstrate the characteristics of the proposed bilinear model predictive control method.

  • An adaptive predictive control method for SISO and MIMO plants is proposed. In this method, future predictions of process output based on a bilinear CARIMA model are used to calculate the control input. Also, a classical recursive adaptation algorithm, equation error method, is used to decrease the uncertainty of the process model. As a result of the application on distillation process, the ability of the set-point tracking and the disturbance rejection is acceptable to apply to the industrial distillation processes.

  • A model helicopter has more versatile flight capability than the fixed-wing aircraft and it can be used as an unmaned vehicle in hazardous area. A helicopter, similar to other aircrafts, is an unstable, multi-input multi-output nonlinear system exposed to strong disturbance. So it should be controlled by robust control theories that can be applied to multivariable systems. In this study, motion equations of hovering are established, linearized and transformed into a state equation form. Various parameters are measured and calculated in other to obtain the stability derivatives in the state equation. Hovering flight controller is designed using the digital LQG/LTR(Linear Quadratic Gaussian/Loop Transfer Recovery) control theory. The designed controller is tested by the nonlinear simulations and implemented on an IBM-PC/386. Experiments were carried out on a model helicopter attached to the 3-DOF gimbal. The designed controller showed satisfactory hovering capability to maintain the hovering for more than 40 seconds.

  • The robustness issues in fault detection and isolation(FDI) have received considerable attenuation in recent years, due to the increasing demand for safe and reliable operation of uncertain and complex dynamic systems. The aim of this paper is to present the FDI method by using proportional integral(PI) observer and unknown input observer(UIO) under the faults of actuators and sensors. Due to this simple residual generator, the PI observer can easily detect the both faults of actuator and sensor. A simulation results show the effectiveness of this methods.

  • An adaptive tracking controller is presented for the vibration reduction of flexible manipulator employed in hazardous area by combining input shaping technique with sliding-mode control. The combined approach appears to be robust in the presence of severe disturbance and unknown parameter which will be estimated by least-square method in real time. In a maneuver strategy, it is found that a hybrid trajectory with a combination of low frequency mode and rigid-body mode results in better performance and is more efficient than the traditional rigid body trajectory alone which many researchers have employed. The feasibility of the adaptive tracking control approach is demonstrated by applying it to the simplified model of robot system. For the applications of the proposed technique to realistic systems, several requirements are discussed such as control stability and large system order resulted from finite element modeling.

  • The present article investigates the influence of droplet drag models on predictions of diesel spray behaviors under ultra-high injection pressure conditions. To consider drop deformation and shock disturbance, this study introduces a new hybrid model in predicting drag coefficient from the literature findings. Numerical simulations are first conducted on transient behaviors of single droplet to compare the hybrid model with earlier conventional model. Moreover, using two different models, extensive numerical calculations are made for diesel sprays under ultra-high pressure sprays. It is found that the droplet drag models play an important role in determining the transient behaviors of sprays such as spray tip velocity and penetration lengths. Numerical results indicate that this new hybrid model yields the much better conformity with measurements especially under the ultra-high injection pressure conditions.
