Design of disturbance observer and sliding mode controller for the hovering system of underwater vehicles (수중운동체의 호버링시스템을 위한 외란 관측기 및 슬라이딩 모드 제어기 설계)

  • A robust disturbance rejection controller for the hovering motion of underwater vehicles in near the surface of sea is presented. The suggested controller consists of two control parts, the one is disturbance observer for taking into account the effects of sea wave and missile-launching forces, and the other is sliding mode controller for the robust stability of underwater vehicles with model uncertainties and nonlinearities. It is shown that the sliding mode control system with disturbance observer is more effective compared with the sliding mode control system, especially in case that large sea wave force is affected.

Tracking Performance Improvement for Optical Disk Drive Using Error-based Modified Disturbance Observer (오차 기반의 수정된 외란 관측기를 이용한 광디스크 드라이브의 트랙 추종 성능 향상)

  • Generally, the tracking performance of optical disk drive(ODD) system can be improved using a disturbance observer(DOB). However, a DOB is not easily applied in an ODD system because an additional microprocessor, such as a digital signal processor(DSP), is needed. This paper shows how a DOB system can be replaced by the error-based modified disturbance observer(EM-DOB) when two mathematical conditions are satisfied. Due to the simplified structure of EM-DOB, the algorithm is easily implemented as an analog circuit, which is suitable for the ODD servo system. Additionally, in these algorithms, disturbances rejection performances can be tuned as Q filter parameters. Similar to a DOB system, three design guidelines of a Q filter can be applied. Experimental results of DOB and EM-DOB are evaluated under forced disturbances.

  • A disturbance-observer-based adaptive neural tracker design problem is investigated for a class of perturbed uncertain non-affine nonlinear systems with unknown control direction. A nonlinear disturbance observer (NDO) design methodology using neural networks is presented to construct a tracking control scheme with the attenuation effect of an external disturbance. Compared with previous control results using NDO for nonlinear systems in non-affine form, the major contribution of this paper is to design a NDO-based adaptive tracker without the sign information of the control coefficient. The stability of the closed-loop system is analyzed in the sense of Lyapunov stability.

Study on the Disturbance Applied to Launcher Hatch by Ship Motions (함정운동에 의해 발사대 해치에 작용하는 외란에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, the disturbance applied to launcher hatch by ship motions is introduced to identify the vertical ship motion disturbance. Basically, ship motions are comprised of 6 degrees of freedom: roll, pitch, yaw, heave, surge and sway. In the case of the shipboard launcher hatch the coupled pitch, heave and roll are significant motions to be transformed to a vertical direction motion. The maximum acceleration values are obtained from the vertical motion model and the ship motion data in accordance with ship type and hatch location on the ship. We verify that the maximum pitch motion mainly influences the launcher hatch and also present the quantity of the maximum load disturbance by the ship's motion acceleration.

Periodic Adaptive Compensation of State-dependent Disturbance in a Digital Servo Motor System

  • This paper presents an adaptive controller for the compensation of state-dependent disturbance with unknown amplitude in a digital servo motor system. The state-dependent disturbance is caused by friction and eccentricity between the wheel axis and the motor driver of a mobile robot servo system. The proposed control scheme guarantees an asymptotical stability for both the velocity and position regulation. An experimental result shows the effectiveness of the adaptive disturbance compensator for wheeled-mobile robot in a low velocity diffusion tracking. A comparative experimental study with a simple PI controller is presented.

A Study on the Influence of Q-filter on Disturbance Observer Controller for Electro-Magnetic Suspension Systems (자기부상시스템의 외란관측기 제어기에 Q 필터가 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • The disturbance observer (DOB) controller has been widely used in various industrial applications since it is capable of achieving robust stability and disturbance rejection. In this paper, we study the effect of Q-filter on disturbance observer controller for Electro-Magnetic suspension (EMS) systems. We consider three Q-filters and analyze their effects on the robust stability against parameter uncertainties due to mass variation. Moreover, we investigate the influence of sensor noise for three Q-filters. According to our study, robust stability improves as the order of Q-filter decreases. On the other hand, the larger the order of Q-filter, the more the effect of sensor noise can be removed.

  • For a plant subject to several kinds of disturbances in the plant input side, we consider a problem of designing a controller based on the disturbance cancellation. The conventional loop transfer recovery (LTR) technique can not be used since the extended system consisting of the plant and the disturbance model is not necessarily stabilizable. We propose a new LTR technique that can be applied for our problem. As a target of the LTR, we choose a state feedback controller using a disturbance estimator. We find an LTR procedure based on the Riccati equation formalism where the stochastic model contains the filter gain matrix of the disturbance estimator in the target.   • The backdrivable servovalve is a desirable component for force and interaction control of hydraulic actuation systems because it provides direct force generation mechanical impedance reduction by its own inherent backdrivability. However, high parametric uncertainty and friction effects inside the hydraulic actuation system significantly degrade its advantage. To solve this problem, this letter presents a disturbance-adaptive robust internal-loop compensator (DA-RIC) to generate ideal interactive control performance from the backdrivable-servovalve-based system. The proposed control combines a robust internal-loop compensator structure (RIC) with an explicit disturbance estimator designed for asymptotic disturbance tracking, such that the controlled system provide stable and ideal dynamic behavior for impedance control, while completely compensating the disturbance effects. With the aid of a backdrivable servovalve, we show that the proposed control structure can be implemented based on a simplified nominal model, and the controller enables implementation without accurate knowledge of the target system parameters and disturbances. The performance and properties of the proposed controller are verified by simulation and experiments.

Fuzzy Neural Network Active Disturbance Rejection Control for Two-Wheeled Self-Balanced Robot

  • Considering the problems of poor control effect, weak disturbance rejection ability and adaptive ability of two-wheeled self-balanced robot (TWSBR) systems on undulating roads, this paper proposes a fuzzy neural network active disturbance rejection controller (FNNADRC), that is based on fuzzy neural network (FNN) for online correction of active disturbance rejection controller (ADRC)'s nonlinear control rate. Firstly, the dynamic model of the TWSBR is established and decoupled, the extended state observer (ESO) is used to compensate dynamically and linearize the upright and displacement subsystems. Then, the nonlinear PD control rate and FNN are designed, and the FNN is used to modify the control parameters of the nonlinear PD control rate in real time. Finally, the proposed control strategy is simulated and compared with the traditional ADRC and fuzzy active disturbance rejection controller (FADRC). The simulation results show that the control effect of the proposed control strategy is slightly better than ADRC and FADRC.

The State Estimation by Unknown Disturbance Observer of Underwater Vehicle System for Robust Control (강인한 제어를 위한 수중이동시스템의 상태추정에 대한 연구)

  • In this paper, and estimation method for estimating the states of underwater vehicle systems with external unknown disturbance is proposed. First, the dynamics of underwater vehicle are induced by Taylor series expansion in the vertical plane and horizontal plane, respectively. For constructing the system model, the external efforts, i.e., the sea surface disturbances, the current, wave and etc., are regarded as external unknown disturbances. Thus the disturbance is added as external input into state-space form of underwater vehicle system. To estimate the state of systems with unknown disturbance, a disturbance observer which does not effected the external unknown input is proposed, and the existence condition for the observer is given. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed disturbance observer for robust control of underwater vehicle systems is verified by using numerical simulation.
