In this paper, an adaptive disturbance compensation technique is used in a tracking problem, under which the tracking reference is unknown. Based on a simple disturbance observer that effectively estimates the low frequency components of disturbance, the feedforward compensation is applied in addition to the conventional feedback control. Under the proposed compensation method, sensitivity analysis is given to illustrate the effectiveness. Finally, the proposed method is applied to the tracking problem in an optical storage system.
In this paper, a simple design of a DOB (Disturbance Observer) for attitude control of a quad-rotor system is presented. A modified DOB structure from the conventional DOB is introduced to eliminate time-delay in the calculation. The proposed simple modification in the DOB configuration provides an efficiency in the calculation of the disturbance term such that the delayed calculation is not required. The performance of the modified DOB is evaluated through simulation studies. To confirm the simulation results, experimental studies of the attitude control of a quad-rotor system are conducted.

Tracking control schemes on the precise mechanical system in presence of nonlinear dynamic friction is proposed. A nonlinear dynamic friction is regarded as the bristle friction model to compensate fer effects of friction. The conventional SMC method often shows poor tracking performance in high-precision position tracking application since it cannot completely compensate for the friction effect below a certain precision level. Thus to improve the precise position tracking performance, we propose the SMC method combined with the disturbance observer having tunable transient performance. Then this control scheme has the high precise tracking peformance as well as a good transient response when it is compared with the conventional SMC method and the similar types of observers, The experiment on the XY ball-screw drive system with the nonlinear dynamic friction confirms the feasibility of the proposed control scheme.
A control approch for the robust position control of IM based on the binary disturbance observer is described. The conventional binary observer is used to remove the chattering problem of variable structure system. However the steady state error may be existed, because the conventioal binary observer etimates external disturbance with constant boundary layers. Thus in order to overcome this problem, the improved binary observer is proposed. By employing the proposed observer, the robustness is achived and the continuous control is realized without the chattering problem and the steady state error. The effectiveness of the proposed observer is confirmed by the computer simulation.
This thersis presents precise position control emthods of a 3-PRPS in-parallel manipulator for industrial applications such as assembly of highly integrated semiconductors and microsurgery. Since real-time ontrol is one of the most important issues required for industrial application, the experimental hardware is set up with a VME based DSP controller. In the 3-PRPS parallel mainpulator, structurally existing frictiion at three horizontal links considerably degrades the precise position control. In order to compensate the friction of the horizontal links in the joint space, a disturbance compensation usign disturbance and velocity observers has been proposed and investigated. We analyzed the decision method of eigenvalues of the disturbance observer and the effects of the control resulted form tehsystem model errors. Through a series of simulations and experiments, we see that the methods is capable of compensating variations of the robot parameters such as inertia and damping as well as the joint friction. Experiments show that the disturbance compensation method usign disturbance and velocity observer is very effective to compensate the friction. Compared with conventional PID position control, it decreased position errors ina circular motion by approximately 70%.
A design method of a T-S fuzzy model based reduced order nonlinear unknown input observer(NUIO) is presented. The fuzzy NUIO is designed based on the parallel distributed compensation(PDC) concept. It consists of a number of the linear UIOs, each of which is designed for each local linear model in the T-S fuzzy model of a class of nonlinear systems. The fuzzy NUIO provides not only the state estimates insensitive to the unknown inputs, for example, disturbances and faults etc., but also the estimates of the unknown inputs. Therefore, It can be employed in the state feedback control and disturbance rejection control of a class of nonlinear systems with unknown disturbances. It also applied to the robust residual generation for the fault detection and isolation systems and to the design of fault tolerant control systems. As an example, the NUIO is applied to an inverted pendulum system to show the state and disturbance estimation performance and to illustrate the fuzzy reduced order NUIO design method.
The automobile cruise control system tries to maintain a constant velocity in the face of disturbance mainly caused by mass changes or changes in the slope of a road. The controller should compensate for such disturbances and model uncertainties. In this paper, we study on the disturbance observer based controller for cruise control system. In the presence of disturbances and model uncertainties, we carry out computer simulations in order to compare the performance of the conventional PI controller and DOB controller. From the simulation results, we found that the performance of DOB controller is superior to that of the conventional PI controller.
Mobility of an indoor wheeled robot is affected by adhesion force that is related to various floor conditions. When the adhesion force between driving wheels and the floor decreases suddenly, the robot has slip state. First of all, this paper models adhesion characteristics and slip in wheeled robot. Secondly, the paper proposes estimation method of adhesion force coefficient according to slip velocity. In oder to overcome this slip problem, optimal slip velocity must be decided for stable movement of wheeled robot. The paper proposes an anti-slip control system based on an ordinary disturbance observer, that is, the anti-slip control is achieved by reducing the driving torque enough to give maximum adhesion force coefficient. These procedure is implemented using a Pioneer 2-DXE parameter.
In this paper, a new discrete integral static output feedback variable structure controller based on the a new integral dynamic-type sliding surface and output feedback discrete version of the disturbance observer is suggested for the control of uncertain linear systems. The reaching phase is completely removed by introducing a new proposed integral dynamic-type sliding surface. The output feedback discrete version of disturbance observer is presented for effective compensation of uncertainties and disturbance. A corresponding control with disturbance compensation is selected to guarantee the quasi sliding mode on the predetermined integral dynamic-type sliding surface for guaranteeing the designed output in the integral dynamic-type sliding surface from any initial condition for all the parameter variations and disturbances. Using discrete Lyapunov function, the closed loop stability and the existence condition of the quasi sliding mode is proved. Finally, an illustrative example is presented to show the effectiveness of the algorithm.
A constraint equation-based control law design for large angle attitude maneuvers of flexible spacecraft is addressed in this paper The tip displacement of the flexible spacecraft model is prescribed in the form of a constraint equation. The controller design is attempted in the way that the constraint equation is satisfied throughout the maneuver. The constraint equation leads to a two-point boundary value problem which needs backward and forward solution techniques to satisfy terminal constraints. An observer-based tracking control law takes the constraint equation as the input to the dynamic observer. The observer state is used in conjunction with the state feedback control law to have the actual system follow the observer dynamics. The observer-based tracking control law eventually turns into a stabilized system with inherent nature of robustness and disturbance rejection in LQR type control laws.
