  • This study is to select appropriate probability distributions for ten days evaporation data for the purpose of representing statistical characteristics of real evaporation data in Korea. Nine probability distribution functions were assumed to be underlying distributions for ten days evaporation data of 20 stations with the duration of 20 years. The parameter of each probability distribution function were estimated by the maximum likelihood approach, and appropriate probability distributions were selected from the goodness of fit test. Log Pearson type III model was selected as an appropriate probability distribution for ten days evaporation data in Korea.

  • It is wellknown that the left truncated exponential distribution with positivity constraint on the location parameter is appropriate as a lifetime distribution model, In this paper, some Bayes estimators of the parameters and reliability for the left truncated exponential lifetime distribution when an unidentified-failure outlier is included and it is excluded in the exchangeable outlier model are proposed, and the performances of these proposed Bayes estimators are also discussed.

  • In this paper, we develope three modified empirical distribution function type tests, the modified Cramer-von Mises test, the modified Anderson-Darling test, and the modified Kolmogorov-Smirnov test for the two-parameter exponential distribution with unknown parameters based on multiply Type-II censored samples. For each test, Monte Carlo techniques are used to generate the critical values. The powers of these tests are also investigated under several alternative distributions.

  • We derive a test statistic for the general linear test in the ridge regression model. The exact distribution for the test statistic is too difficult to derive; therefore, we suggest an approximate reference distribution. We use numerical studies to verify that the suggested distribution for the test statistic is appropriate. A asymptotic result for the test statistic also is considered.

  • Superconducting transmission cable is one of interesting part in power application using high temperature super-conducting wire as transformance. One important parameter in HTS cable design is transport current distribution because it is related with current transmission capacity and loss. In this paper, we present the calculation theory of current distribution for multi-layer cable using the electric circuit model and in example, calculation results of current distribution and AC loss in each layer of 4-layer HTS transmission cable.

  • The concept of pivot has been widely used in various classical inferences. In this paper, it is proved by use of pivotal quantities that the Bayesian inferences can be arrived at the same results of classical inferences for the location-scale parameters models under the assumption of non-informative prior distributions. Some theorems are proposed in which the posterior distribution and the sampling distribution of a pivotal quantity coincide. The theorems are applied illustratively to some statistical models.

  • This paper derives maximum likelihood estimators (MLEs) and some approximate MLEs (AMLEs) of unknown parameters of the generalized exponential distribution when data are lower record values. We derive approximate Bayes estimators through importance sampling and obtain corresponding Bayes predictive intervals for unknown parameters for lower record values from the generalized exponential distribution. For illustrative purposes, we examine the validity of the proposed estimation method by using real and simulated data.

  • We consider an extended version of a logarithmic series distribution and discuss the estimation of its parameters by the method of moments and the method of maximum likelihood. Test procedures are suggested to test the significance of the additional parameter of this distribution and all procedures are illustrated with the help of real life data sets. In addition, a simulation study is conducted to assess the performance of the estimators.

  • For multiply Type-II censored samples from a half-triangle distribution, the maximum likelihood method does not admit explicit solutions. In this case, we propose some explicit estimators of the location parameter in the half-triangle distribution by the approximate maximum likelihood methods. We compare the proposed estimators in the sense of the mean squared error for various censored samples.
