Effects of Grain-Size Distribution on the Breakdown Voltage in ZnO Varistors (입도분포가 ZnO 바리스터의 임계전압에 미치는 영향)

  • Effects of grain size distribution on the breakdown voltage of ZnO varistors were investigated in the ZnO-Bi2O3-CoO-Sb2O3 and ZnO-Bi2O3-CoO-Sb2O3-Cr2O3 systems, respectively. The grain size was increased with increasing sintering temperature maintaining lognormal distribution in both systems. The width of grain size distribution of ZnO-Bi2O3-CoO-Sb2O3 system was narrower than that of ZnO-Bi2O3-CoO-Sb2O3 system. The breakdown voltage(Vb) was decreased by increasing sintering temperature(1000~135$0^{\circ}C$) and sintering time(0.5~5hr), due to the enhancement of ZnO grain growth. The current path of the ZnO varistor was dependent on the distribution of the largest grains (chains of long grains) between the electrodes.

  • Sintering behavior, distribution of dopant oxides and electrical properties in the ZnO-Bi2O3-CoO-Sb2O3 and ZnO-Bi2O3-CoO-Sb2O3-Cr2O3 systems were studied. The linear shrinkage of ZnO varistors from 850 to 950$^{\circ}C$ was related to the decomposition reaction (py\longrightarrowsp+Bi2O3) of the pyrochlore phase. In the distribution of the dopant oxides (CoO, Sb2O3, Cr2O3), Co distribute uniformly throughout the sample, the distribution of Sb coincided with small particles (spinel phase, Zn7Sb2O12), and Cr distributed very consistently with Sb. The increase in breakdown voltage, due to the addition of Cr2O3, was not only attributed to the decrease in the ZnO grain size but also to the solution of Cr2O3 in the spinel phase. The leakage current (80% V60 ${\mu}\textrm{A}$) was increased by the addition of Cr2O3.

Effects of $Fe_2O_3$ Addition on the Properties of MgO and Dolomite (마그네시아와 돌로마이트의 특성에 미치는 $Fe_2O_3$ 의 첨가영향)

  • MgO clinker and two kinds of dolomite clinkers with different microstructures and CaO contents were used as starting materials, and the effects of Fe2O3 addition on the properties of MgO and dolomite were investigated in the range of 2 to 8 wt% of Fe2O3 content. Secondary phases contributed to densification of MgO-Fe2O3 and dolomite-Fe2O3 were magnesioferrite and dicalciumferrite, respectively. Sinterabilities of MgO-Fe2O3 and dolomite-Fe2O3 were directly proportional to the amount of secondary phases. Also, sinterability of dolomite itself was dependent on the microstructure of starting material including distribution of CaO and MgO as well as the addition amount of Fe2O3. The flexural strength of MgO-Fe2O3 content was almost constant. The hydration resistance of dolomite with large size of MgO and discontinuous distribution of CaO was higher than that of dolomite with small size of MgO and continuous distribution of CaO. Also, the minimum content of Fe2O3 to prevent they hydration of dolomite was about 4wt%. As increasing Fe2O3 content, the penetration resistance of MgO-Fe2O3 was improved by the increment of magnesioferrite. On the other hand, the penetration resistance of dolomite-Fe2O3 was decreased because of the increment of dicalciumferrite having low melting point.

Effect of Oxygen Annealing on the Set Voltage Distribution Ti/MnO2/Pt Resistive Switching Devices

  • Significant improvements in the switching voltage distribution are required for the development of unipolar resistive memory devices using $MnO_x$ thin films. The $V_{set}$ of the as-grown $MnO_x$ film ranged from 1 to 6.2 V, whereas the $V_{set}$ of the oxygen-annealed film ranged from 2.3 to 3 V. An excess of oxygen in an $MnO_x$ film leads to an increase in $Mn^{4+}$ content at the $MnO_x$ film surface with a subsequent change in the $Mn^{4+}/Mn^{3+}$ ratio at the surface. This was attributed to the change in $Mn^{4+}/Mn^{3+}$ ratios at the $MnO_x$ surface and to grain growth. Oxygen annealing is a possible solution for improving the switching voltage distribution of $MnO_x$ thin films. In addition, crystalline $MnO_x$ can help stabilize the $V_{set}$ and $V_{reset}$ distribution in memory switching in a Ti/$MnO_x$/Pt structure. The improved uniformity was attributed not only to the change of the crystallinity but also to the redox reaction at the interface between Ti and $MnO_x$.

  • Fe-V is used as raw material of vanadium in the steel making process. The purpose of this study, Fe-V is to replace the $VO_{4}$. So the distribution behavior of vanadium in $VO_{4}$ of the steel investigated. The distribution ratio of the vanadium where potential of the free oxygen ion will increase in slag decreased. When CaO and MgO content which is a basic oxide from CaO-$SiO_2$-FetO-MgOsatd. slag increases, S distribution ratio increases. CaO-$SiO_2$-FetO-MgOsatd. slag better than CaO-$SiO_2$-$Al_2O_3$-MgO slag is the recovery of vanadum and desulfurization.

Preparation of $BaTiO_3$ Powder by Coprecipitation Method (공심법에 의한 $BaTiO_3$ 분말제조)

  • $BaTiO_3$ ceramics powder was prepared by coprecipitation method either in oxalic acid solution or in potassium hydroxide solution. Thermal decomposition of coprecipitated $BaTiO(C_2O_4)_2$.$4H_2O$ powder in oxalic acid solution was investigated by means of Themogravimetry Differential Thermal Analysis and X-ray Diffraction Analysis. Low temperature decomposition of coprecipitated $BaTiO(C_2O_4)_2$.$4H_2O$ caused narrow particle size distribution whereas high temperature decomposition caused fairly wide particle size distribution by partial sintering. As the reaction time increased the average particle size of coprecipitated $BaTiO_3$ powder in KOH solution was increased. The most narrow paticle size distribution was obtained when the coprecipi-tates were ripened for 4hrs.

Degradation of Humic Acid in Ozone/GAC Process (오존/GAC 공정에서의 부식산 분해 특성)

  • In this study, GAC adsorption, ozonation and $O_3/GAC$ hybrid processes were investigated for treatment of humic acid. The degradation characteristics and efficiencies of humic acid in each process were evaluated through pH variation, $UV_{254}$ decrease, DOC removal, change of molecular size distribution and by-products formation. DOC removal rate in $O_3/GAC$ hybrid process (80%) was higher than arithmetic sum of ozonation (38%) and GAC adsorption process (19%) by synergism. $UV_{254}$ decrease rate of humic acid was also the highest than any other processes when treated in $O_3/GAC$ hybrid process. Molecular size distribution was not significantly changed in the GAC adsorption process. Main distribution of molecular size of humic acid was converted from 3 k~30 kDa into 0.5 k~3 kDa in ozonation. But the most of large molecular sizes of humic acid converted into small molecules(smaller than 0.5 kDa) in $O_3/GAC$ hybrid process. Quantities of formaldehyde and glyoxal formed in $O_3/GAC$ hybrid process were less than the ones in ozonation.

Monte Carlo Simulation of $SiO_2$ Systems ($SiO_2$계의 Monte Carlo 시뮬레이션)

  • The structures of crystalline vitreous and liquid $SiO_2$ were Monte carlo simulated employing the potential energy function comprising Lennard-Jones 2-body and Axilrod-Teller 3-body potentials. Although the Si-O-Si angular distribution functions obtained in the simulation appear to be higher than the experimental results the other simulation results including SiO, O-O and Si-Si radial distribution functions and O-Si-O anglular distribution functions agree well with experimental data within acceptable limits. Themost important outcome in this study is that various $SiO_2$forms were successfully reproduced with the same potential energy function.

Comparative Analysis of Commercial Al2O3 Powders and the Dispersion Characteristics of Slurries Produced Using Them (상용 Al2O3 분말의 비교분석 및 이를 이용하여 제조한 슬러리의 분산 특성)

  • Al2O3 has excellent sintering properties and is important in semiconductor manufacturing processes that require high-temperature resistance and chemical inertness in a plasma environment. In this study, a comprehensive analysis of the chemical characteristics, physical properties, crystal structure, and dispersion stability of three commercially available Al2O3 powders was conducted. The aim was to provide a technological foundation for selecting and utilizing appropriate Al2O3 powders in practical applications. All powders exhibited α-Al2O3 as the main phase, with the presence of beta-phase Na2O-11Al2O3 as the secondary phase. The highest Na+ ion leaching was observed in the aqueous slurry state due to the presence of the secondary phase. Although the average particle size difference among the three powders was not significant, distinct differences in particle size distribution were observed. ALG-1SH showed a broad particle size distribution, P162 exhibited a bimodal distribution, and AES-11 displayed a uniform unimodal distribution. High-concentration Al2O3 slurries showed differences in viscosity due to ion release when no dispersant was added, affecting the electrical double-layer thickness. Polycarboxylate was found to effectively enhance the dispersion stability of all three powders. In the dispersion stability analysis, ALG-1SH exhibited the slowest sedimentation tendency, as evidenced by the low TSI value, while P162 showed faster precipitation, influenced by the particle size distribution.

EBSD studies of the grain size and grain orientation distribution of $SrTiO_3$ (EBSD를 이용한 $SrTiO_3$의 입자 크기 및 입자 배향 분포)

  • $SrTiO_3$ was annealed at two different annealing times (1 h and 16 h) to investigate the annealing effect on the grain size and orientation distribution. Electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD) was used to analyze the grain size and grain orientation distributions of the $SrTiO_3$. It is possible to understand the annealing effect on the microstructure evolution, by comparing the grain size and orientation distribution of the $SrTiO_3$ as a function of annealing time.
