The Impact of Topic Distribution on Review Sentiment: A Comparative Study between South Korea and the U.S.

  • Online reviews offer valuable information to businesses by reflecting consumer experiences about their products and services. Two important aspects of online reviews are first, the topics consumers choose to address and second, the sentiments expressed in their reviews. Building upon previous literature that shows online reviews are context-dependent, we examine the impact of topic distribution on review sentiment in South Korea and the U.S. during pre-and post-pandemic periods. After performing topic modeling on Airbnb app review data, we measure the contribution of each topic on review sentiment using SHAP values. Our results indicate variations in topic distribution trends between 2018 and 2021. Also, the order and magnitude of topics' impact on review sentiment change between pre-and post-pandemic periods for both countries. This study can help businesses to understand how topics and sentiments associated with their products and services changed after pandemic, and also help them identify areas of improvement.

Building upon previous literature that shows online reviews are context-dependent, we employ the Expectation-Confirmation Theory (ECT) to examine the impact of topic distribution on review sentiment in South Korea and the U.S. during pre- and post-pandemic periods. After applying a topic modeling to Airbnb app review data, we measure the contribution of each topic on review sentiment using SHAP values. Our results indicate variations in topic distribution trends between 2018 and 2021. In addition, the order and magnitude of topics' impact on review sentiment change between pre- and post-pandemic periods for both countries. This study can help businesses understand how topics and sentiments associated with their products and services changed after the pandemic and thus identify areas of improvement.

  • 일반적으로 특정한 작업에 익숙해진다는 것은 그 작업에 투입되는 노력에 비해 산출되는 성과가 보다 뚜렷해진다는 것을 의미한다. 동일한 양이나 정도의 노력을 들여 특정한 작업을 반복적으로 수행하게 되면 초기 시점보다 원하는 성과를 기대 이상으로 얻게 된다는 것을 의미한다. 이를 학습곡선효과(learning-curve effects)'라고 한다. 본 연구에서는 특정한 작업을 반복시행한 결과가 개수형인 형태로 측정되는 변수에 대해 (역)S자 형태를 가지는 통계적 모형을 적용하고자 한다. 다양한 모의실험 하에서의 모형의 성능을 평가하고 특정질환으로 인한 사망자 자료에 적합하였다.

  • 원형자료에 대한 모형화 분석은 주로 von Mises 분포를 비롯한 대칭형의 경우를 중심으로 많은 연구가 이루어져 왔다. 최근 선형자료의 분석에서 다양한 비대칭의 자료에 적합한 왜정규분포의 활용에 대한 연구가 활발히 수행되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 Pewsey (2000a)에 의해 처음 소개된 겹친왜정규분포를 이용한 비대칭의 원형자료에 대한 적합을 다루었다. 특히 비대칭 다봉형 원형자료의 적합을 위해 겹친왜정규혼합분포를 제안하고, EM 알고리즘을 통한 모수추정 과정을 제시하였다. 모의실험을 통해 EM 알고리즘을 통한 모수추정의 정확성을 확인하고, 실제 지방국도의 일일교통량 자료의 모형화 분석에 적용하였다.

  • In this paper, a new algorithm of optimal Volt/Var Control is proposed using Volt/Var control for the Distribution Automation System (DAS) with Distributed Generation (DG) based on the modeling of the distributed load and the distributed current. In the proposed, algorithm based on the modeling of the distributed load and the distributed current are estimated from constants of four terminals using the measurement of the current and power factor from a Feeder Remote Terminal Unit (FRTU) and DG data from RTU for DG. For the optimal Volt/Var Control, the gradient method is applied to find optimal solution for tap, capacity and power control of OLTC (On-Load Tap Changers), SVR (Step Voltage Regulator), PC (Power Condenser) and DG (Distributed Generation). In the case studies, the estimation and control of the voltages have been testified in a radial distribution system with DG using matlab program.

  • Large fluctuations in surface strain at the level of steel are expected in reinforced concrete flexural members at a given stage of loading due to the emergent structure (emergence of new crack patterns). This has been identified in developing deterministic constitutive models for finite element applications in Ibrahimbegovic et al. (2010). The aim of this paper is to identify a suitable probability distribution for describing the large deviations at far from equilibrium points due to emergent structures, based on phenomenological, thermodynamic and statistical considerations. Motivated by the investigations reported by Prigogine (1978) and Rubi (2008), distributions with heavy tails (namely, alpha-stable distributions) are proposed for modeling the variations in strain in reinforced concrete flexural members to account for the large fluctuations. The applicability of alpha-stable distributions at or in the neighborhood of far from equilibrium points is examined based on the results obtained from carefully planned experimental investigations, on seven reinforced concrete flexural members. It is found that alpha-stable distribution performs better than normal distribution for modeling the observed surface strains in reinforced concrete flexural members at these points.

  • Physical modeling technique is applied to investigate foam generation in molten aluminum. By using room temperature water with specially designed equipment, the effects of stirrer type, fluid viscosity(glycerine added to water) and stirring velocity on foam generation behaviors are intensively analysed The distribution and size of bubbles varied with each process parameters but the most important parameters are stirring velocity and fluid viscosity. The results obtained from physical simulation have been confirmed by actual aluminum foam generation experiment at various process variables.

  • For the OLED evaporation process, thin film thickness uniformity is of great practical importance. In order to achieve the better thickness uniformity, geometric simulation of film thickness distribution profile is required. In this paper, a geometric modeling algorithm is introduced for process simulation of full-color OLED evaporating system. The physical fact of the evaporation process is modeled mathematically. Based on the developed method, the uniformity of the organic layer thickness can be successfully controlled.

  • In order to design an OLED(Organic Luminescent Emitting Device) evaporation system, geometric simulation of film thickness distribution profile is required. For the OLED evaporation process, thin film thickness uniformity is of great practical importance. In this paper, a geometric modeling algorithm is introduced for process simulation of the OLED evaporating process. The physical fact of the evaporating process is modeled mathematically. Based on the developed method, the thickness of the thin-film layer can be successfully controlled.
