  • For large multihop networks, large time synchronization (TS) errors can accumulate with conventional methods, such as TPSN, RBS, and FTSP, since they need a large number of hops to cover the network. In this paper, a method combining Concurrent Cooperative Transmission (CCT) and Semi- Cooperative Spectrum Fusion (SCSF) is proposed to reduce the number of hops to cover the large network. In CCT, cooperating nodes transmit the same digitally encoded message in orthogonal channels simultaneously, so receivers can benefit from array and diversity gains. SCSF is an analog cooperative transmission method where different cooperators transmit correlated information simultaneously. The two methods are combined to create a new distributed method of network TS, called the Cooperative Analog and Digital (CANDI) TS protocol, which promises significantly lower network TS errors in multi-hop networks. CANDI and TPSN are compared in simulation for a line network.

  • This paper proposes a fusion method of the queen-bee evolution into the rank-based control of mutation probability for improving the performances of genetic algorithms. The rank-based control of mutation probability which showed some performance improvements than the original method was a method that prevented individuals of genetic algorithms from falling into local optimum areas and also made it possible for the individuals to get out of the local optimum areas if they fell into there. This method, however, showed not good performances at the optimization problems that had a global optimum located in a small area regardless of the number of local optimum areas. We think that this is because the method is insufficient in the convergence into the global optimum, so propose a fusion method of the queen-bee evolution into this method in this paper. The queen-bee evolution inspired by reproduction process of queen-bee is a method that can strengthen the convergency of genetic algorithms. From the extensive experiments with four function optimization problems in order to measure the performances of proposed method we could find that the performances of proposed method was considerably good at the optimization problems whose global optimum is located in a small area as we expected. Our method, however, showed not good performances at the problems whose global optima were distributed in broad ranges and even showed bad performances at the problems whose global optima were located far away. These results indicate that our method can be effectively used at the problems whose global optimum is located in a small area.

  • Fusion bonding of cast iron and Al alloy is an effective way to improve the properties such as low inertia, high efficiency and corrosion resistance in machinery parts. In case of fusion bonding, intermetallic compound layers are formed at the interface between cast iron and Al alloy interface. It is important to control the intermetallic compound layers for improving bonding strength. The formation behavior of intermetallic compound layer by heat treatment has been investigated. Heat treatment was performed at temperature from $600^{\circ}C$ to $800^{\circ}C$ with $100^{\circ}C$ interval for an hour to investigate the phase transformation during heat treatment. Heat treated specimens were analyzed by using FE-SEM, EPMA and EDS. The EPMA/WDS results revealed that various phases were formed at the interface, which exhibited 4 distinct intermetallic compound layers such as ${\tau}_6-Al_{4.5}FeSi$, ${\tau}_2-Al_3FeSi$, ${\tau}_{11}-Al_5Fe_2Si $and ${\eta}-Al_5Fe_2$. Also, fine precipitation of ${\tau}_1-Al_2Fe_3Si_3$ phase was formed between ${\tau}_{11}$ and ${\eta}$ layer. The phase fraction in intermetallic compound layer was changed by heat treatment temperature. At $600^{\circ}C$, intermetallic compound layer of ${\tau}_6$ phase was mainly formed with increasing heat treatment time. With increasing heat treatment temperature to $800^{\circ}C$, however, ${\tau}_2$ phase was mainly distributed in intermetallic compound layer. ${\tau}_1$ phase was remarkably decreased with increasing heat treatment time and temperature.

  • Diblock copolymers consisting of methoxy Poly (ethylene glycol) (MPEG) and poly (${\epsilon}-ca$ prolactone) (PCL), poly(${\delta}-valerolactone$) (PVL), poly(L-lactide) (PLLA), or poly(L-lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA) were prepared to compare the characterization of diblock copolymers as a drug carrier. MPEG-PCL, MPEG-PVL, MPEG-PLLA, and MPEG-PLGA diblock copolymers were synthesized by the ring-opening polymerization of ${\epsilon}$-caprolactone or ${\delta}$-valerolactone in the presence of $HCl{\cdot}Et_2O$ as a monomer activator at room temperature and by the ring-opening polymerization of L-lactide or a mixture of L-lactide and glycolide in the presence of stannous octoate at $130^{\circ}C$, respectively. The synthesized diblock copolymers were characterized with $^1H-NMR$, GPC, DSC, and XRD. The micellar characterization of MPEG-polyester diblock copolymers in an aqueous phase was carried out by using NMR, dynamic light scattering, AFM, and fluorescence techniques. Most micelles exhibited a spherical shape in AFM. Thus, ore confirmed that the micelles formed with MPEG-polyester diblock copolymers have possibility as a potential hydrophobic drug delivery vehicle because a hydrophobic drug could be preferentially distributed in the micelle core.

  • As aging infrastructures increase along with time, the efficient maintenance becomes more significant and accurate responses from the sensors are pre-requisite. Among various responses, strain is commonly used to detect damage such as crack and fatigue. Optical fiber sensor is one of the promising sensing techniques to measure strains with high-durability, immunity for electrical noise, long transmission distance. Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) is a point sensor to measure the strain based on reflected signals from the grating, while Brillouin Optic Correlation Domain Analysis (BOCDA) is a distributed sensor to measure the strain along with the optical fiber based on scattering signals. Although the FBG provides the signal with high accuracy and reproducibility, the number of sensing points is limited. On the other hand, the BOCDA can measure a quasi-continuous strain along with the optical fiber. However, the measured signals from BOCDA have low accuracy and reproducibility. This paper proposed a multi-fidelity data-fusion method based on Gaussian Process Regression to improve the fidelity of the strain distribution by fusing the advantages of both systems. The proposed method was evaluated by laboratory test. The result shows that the proposed method is promising to improve the fidelity of the strain.

  • This study proposes a big data based risk analysis framework to analyze more comprehensive disaster risk and vulnerability. We introduce a distributed and parallel framework that allows large volumes of data to be processed in a short time by using open-source disaster risk assessment tool. A performance analysis of the proposed system presents that it achieves a more faster processing time than that of the existing system and it will be possible to respond promptly to precise prediction and contribute to providing guideline to disaster countermeasures. Proposed system is able to support accurate risk prediction and mitigate severe damage, therefore will be crucial to giving decision makers or experts to prepare for emergency or disaster situation, and minimizing large scale damage to a region.

  • We compared microstructural features of the ordered cell and disordered leaves in Citrus junos Sieb. by electron microscopy. In the cell of the ordered leaves, many chloroplasts and large vacuoles were particularly observed. Also a lot of vessel, companion cell and big nucleus were presented in vascular bundle regions. The mitochondria and the other organelles were interspersed among the chloroplasts in a thin, peripheral layer of cytoplasm. The chloroplast possessed typical grana and intergranal lamellae, numerous starch grains and a few small osmophilic globules. Besides, microbodies were closely associated with the mitochondria and the chloroplast. The process of the formation of the secondary cell wall from primary cell wall was observed the vessel elements, the tonoplast wall and the secondary cell wall. It was observed that the oil sac with the unique perfume distributed the adjacent cell wall. In the cell of disordered leaves, the all of the organelles were thrust toward the cell wall due to the fusion of vacuoles in the cells. It was observed that a lot of the very small particles spreaded in the cytoplasm. The loss of unique perfume of the leaves was resulted in the destruction of the oil sac. Also, there was not observed grana, lamellae, starch and osmophillic globules in the chloroplast. The small distributed organelles was not observed but the elongation of the cell wall was proceed no longer. Therefore, the plasma membrane diverged from the cell wall. All of organelles in the cell had poor function and deformation. A massive vacuole was fulfilled in single cell and the vacuole contains a lot of large and small particles. The organelles were presented on the side of the cell wall according to the enlargement of vacuole and they were observed to be breakdown.

  • In this paper, new filtering method for sensor registration is provided to estimate and correct error of registration parameters in multiple sensor environments. Sensor registration is based on filtering method to estimate registration parameters in multiple sensor environments. Accuracy of sensor registration can increase performance of data fusion method selected. Due to various error sources, the sensor registration has registration errors recognized as multiple objects even though multiple sensors are tracking one object. In order to estimate the error parameter, new nonlinear information filtering method is developed using minimum mean square error estimation. Instead of linearization of nonlinear function like an extended Kalman filter, information estimation through unscented prediction is used. The proposed method enables to reduce estimation error without a computation of the Jacobian matrix in case that measurement dimension is large. A computer simulation is carried out to evaluate the proposed filtering method with an extended Kalman filter.

  • In order to improve osseointegration of dental implants with bone we studied an implant with holes inside its body to deliver bioactive materials based on a proposed patent. Bioactive materials can be selectively applied through holes to a patient according to diagnosis and the integration progress. After the bioactive material is applied, bone can grow into the holes to increase implant bonding and also enhance surface integration. In order to improve the concept and study the effect of bioactive material injection on implant integration, design optimization and integration research were undertaken utilizing the finite element method. A 2-dimensional simulation study showed that when bone grew into the holes after the bioactive material was injected, stress vertically distributed in the upper part of the implant was relieved and mild stress appeared at the opening of the injection holes. This confirmed the effect of the bioactive material and the contribution of the injection holes, but the maximum stress increased ten-fold at the opening. In order to reduce the maximum stress, the size, location, and the number of holes were varied and the effects were studied. When bioactive materials formed an interface layer between the implant and the mandible and four holes were filled with cortical and cancellous bones all the stress concentrated opposite to the loading side without holes disappeared. The stresses at the four outlets of the holes was mildly elevated but the maximum stress value was ten-fold greater compared to the case without the bioactive material.
