  • The purpose of this study is to classify the characteristic and conduct a typological analysis of college students' attitudes toward remarriage by the elderly, employing Q-methodology. The results are as follows: College students strongly supported the opinion that remarriage relieves the elderly of loneliness, and that familial support is crucial for the remarriage to happen. They also rejected of the idea that the elderly would feel ashamed to remarry. Students' attitudes towards the elderly's remarriage fell into three classifications: the progressively accepting type, the realistically accepting type, and the conservatively accepting type. Type 1, "progressively accepting type" enthusiastically accepts and supports the elderly's remarriage as a progressive and emotive relationship. The "realistically accepting type" holds the opinion that remarriage in later life is based on overcoming loneliness or satisfying attachment need rather than love. This typology believes that the elderly would not be equal as spouses, and would not be overly distressed by public perception. The type 3, "conservatively accepting type" believes that remarriage would be likely to strain the elderly's relationship with other family members, that it will not be the beginning of a new independent life, but are generally accepting of the idea of remarriage in later life.

  • Purpose: The purposes of this study were to describe the pattern of type D personality, to compare the life style and quality of life between type D personality and non-type D personality patients, and to investigate the factors influencing quality of life in patients with hypertension. Methods: A cross sectional, descriptive study was used. The participants in this study were 193 outpatients who were diagnosed with hypertension at two university hospitals in urban area, Korea. The data was collected from December, 2006 to January, 2007. Type D personality was measured by the DS-14 scale. Results: The prevalence of type D personality was 83.9%. Patients of type D personality were significantly different in educational status, monthly income, fat intake and exercise, and had a lower overall quality of life than patients of non-type D personality. Under controlled general characteristics and life style factors, multiple linear regression analysis was performed. The most significant factor influencing quality of life in hypertensive patients was type D personality, and this factor explained their quality of life with a variance of 14.8%. Conclusions: Various programs for psychological intervention are required to control for the distressed personality of patients with hypertension. Further studies should be conducted prospectively on a larger patient population.

  • Irregular reflected signals on a sea surface make clutters to a ship's radar image. Clutters are similar to Gaussian white noises which are very harmful for detecting objecting at sea by a ship's radar. To remove the clutter effects, many papers show the algorithms by antenna, filters, and so on. This paper shows a new algorithm which uwes Wavelet and Morphology median filter conceps for removing clutter and enhancing image in order to detect well a distressed of being rescued ship in a rough weather condition at sea.

  • PURPOSES : Asphalt concrete pavement is damaged by various causes such as traffic and environmental loads. The distressed pavement should be maintained by various methods to provide a comfortable and safe pavement for the driver. This study evaluates the effect of adding a mixing procedure to enhance the mixture quality in the hot in-placement recycled asphalt pavement method, which is an asphalt-pavement maintenance method. METHODS : Various test methods such as Marshall stability and dynamic stability, were employed to estimate the recycled asphalt mixture with and without an additional mixing, using the hot in-placement recycled asphalt pavement method. RESULTS : The mixture samples used in this study were taken before and after the addition of the mixer in the hot in-placement recycled asphalt pavement method (HIR) at field construction sites in GongJu and JinJu in South Korea. The test results of both mixtures satisfied the asphalt-mixture standard specifications. CONCLUSIONS : This study confirmed that adding a mixer in the HIR method results in a well-mixed new asphalt mixture, rejuvenator, and reclaimed asphalt mixture.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop criterion scores for the Korean version of the Maternal Behavior Q-set. The Maternal Behavior Q-set was developed as a means of describing maternal behavior at home. This Q-set consists of 90 items which are sorted to reflect the degree of similarity with mother's observed behavior. A mother's sensitives score is the correlation between this description of her behavior with the criterion scores of Maternal sensitivity. The criterion scores of Maternal sensitivity were developed by 10 judges who are cognizant in attachmet theory and maternal behavior in natural contexts. The correlation among each of the 10 judge's maternal sensitivity scores was grater than .72. The maternal sensitivity criterion scores developed for Korean mothers correlated highly with the criterion scores for North American mothers. And the interobservers' correlation of the sensitivity scores ranged between. .47∼.93. According to the items in the Maternal Behavior Q-set judged to be most like and most unlike the prototypically sensitive mothers, "When baby is distressed, mother is able to quickly and accurately identify the source" proved to be the most sensitive maternal behavior item. "Mother seldom speaks to the baby directly" was the least sensitive maternal behavior item.

  • Matemal behaviors of Korean mothers of one-year-old infants (26 boys and 21 girls) were observed at home. Mothers were from middle to upper-middle class families in Seoul. Trained observers visited the infant's home for 3 to 4 hours and observed infant-mother interactions in natural situation. After the home visit, observers sorted the Maternal Behavior Q-set into 9 piles, from most characteristics to least characteristics of the mothers. In general, Korean mothers were quite sensitive and responsive in their interactions with one-year-old babies. Mothers interpreted baby's cues correctly, noticed when baby was distressed, and slowed pace down to wait for baby's response. Maternal behaviors were somewhat different according to whether they interacted with boys or girls. Mothers of boys were observed to be less sensitive in their interactions than mothers of girls. Mothers of boys were more unaware of or insensitive to baby's signs of distress, their responses were more delayed, and provided baby to constant and unphased barrage of stimulation thus made baby overwhelmed. In contrast, mothers of girls enjoyed face-to-face interactions, slowed pace down, and their interactions revolved around baby's tempo and state.

  • After a concrete is poured, reinforced concrete structures were distressed by physical and chemical factor over time. It is in need to define important variables related to structural behavior for effectively conducting seismic analysis of structures with age-related degradation. In this study, a sensibility analysis using the first-order second moment method was performed to analyze an important variables for the reinforced concrete shear wall with age-related degradation. Because the seismic capacity of aging structures without a concrete hardening effect can be underestimated, the sensibility of analysis variables was analyzed according to the concrete hardening. Important variables for RC shear wall with age-related degradation was presented by using the tornado diagram.
