  • The obesity leads to be the result of the weakening of anatomical structure as well as the gravity effect. And, the obesity interferes with normal sagittal balance and fails to maintain a straight posture with minimal energy. Therefore, the obesity can be an important factor in causing back pain by changing the lumbar lordosis. In this study, we will present an appropriate angle of incidence for obese people to reduce the image distortion of L4, L5 during a general anteroposterior radiography examination. To reduce image distortion according to the change of lordosis, the angle of incidence was applied 9 ° and 21 ° to L4 and L5 vertebra body when obesity and low back pain (LBP) perform the general anteroposterior radiography examination.

  • Nonlinear distortion arising from the nonlinear movement of the loudspeaker diaphragm degradates the tone quality. The distortion is, in low frequency range, mainly caused by nonlinear characteristics of the suspension stiffness and the force factor. In this paper, the nonlinear suspension stiffness and the nonlinear force factor are modeled to the quadratic functions and a method is proposed to determine their coefficients. An additional mass to the diaphragm moved the quiescent point of the diaphragm and uncoupled the stiffness and the force factor. This made it possible to deter mine the coefficients of the nonlinear suspension stiffness by measuring the resonance frequencies at several quiescent points. The coefficients of the nonlinear force factor are then determined by fitting the curve which is calculated from the waveforms of input voltage and input current, and the displacement of the diaphragm at resonance frequency.

  • Yield and fracture are separated in the tensile failure of paper. Failure in the machine direction of photocopy paper is contrasted with failure in the cross-machine direction . The ratios of distortion (shape change) to dilatation (volume change) for individual elements at yield and fracture are described. The ratios of distortion to dilatation are measured and compared to predicted values of the strain energy density theory. To evaluate the effect of the angle from the principal material direction on the strain energy density theory. To evaluate the effect of the angle from the principal material direction on the strain energy density factor, samples are prepared from machine direction to cross-machine direction in 15 degree intervals. the strain energy density of individual elements are obtained by the integration of stress from finite element analysis with elastic plus plastic strain energy density theory. Poison's ratio and the angle from the principal material direction have a great effect ion the ratio fo distortion to dilatation in paper. During the yield condition, distortion prevails over dilatation . At fracture, dilatation is at a maximum.

  • The quantity of alternating current (AC) leakage and the value of distortion factor in capacitor currents are discussed with regard to a new power component called variable capacitance device (VCD). This component has terminals for controlling its capacitance. Nonlinear dielectric characteristics are utilized in this device to vary the capacitance. When VCD operates in an AC circuit, the AC leakage from this device through direct current (DC) control voltage source increases according to the conditions of DC control voltage and so on. To solve this problem, we propose techniques for suppressing AC leakage. Although VCD has strong nonlinear characteristics, the current through the capacitor is not distorted significantly. The relations between AC leakage and the distortion in current waveforms are investigated. An application example for an AC power regulator is also introduced to evaluate the distortion in waveforms.

  • In this paper, a research has been conducted to find out the optimal combination of central meridian and scale factor of UTM-K to apply for the whole area of Korean peninsula. For this research, various combinations of central meridian and stale factor are set up and the cumulated level or distortion for each combination has been computed and compared to each other. In the case of using the central meridian and scale factor defined in the present UTM-K, the level of distortion shows about $47.0837{\times}10^{-2}$. On the other hand, the minimum distortion which is about $21.0495{\times}10^{-2}$ can be obtained when the $127^{\circ}26'$ for the central meridian and 0.99991 for scale factor are used for computation. Consequently, we can conclude that later result is the optimum combination of central meridian and scale factor for the Korean peninsula.

  • When video packets are transmitted over error-prone networks, the leaky prediction can be used to mitigate the effect of error propagation. The leaky factor provides trade-off between coding efficiency and error resilience in the leaky prediction. In this paper, we propose an improved leaky prediction method where the leaky factor is adaptively determined for each frame by minimizing the estimated end-to-end distortion at the encoder. Experimental results show that the proposed method with the adaptive leaky factor shows the better performance of the error robustness as compared with the conventional method.

  • Recently, many nations have released standard such as IEC 1000-3-2 and IEEE 519 which impose a limit on the harmonic current drawn by equipment connected to AC line in order to prevent the distortion of an AC line. Among the wide variety of active methods for improving power factor and harmonic distortion, the boost converter is very effective because it has a continuous line current , small choke filter and high power factor. In high power application, however, the bridge diode loss in the boost converter has made the efficiency lower and the temperature of the board higher. A new approach without bridge diode to make the same characteristics of the conventional boost converter has also been developed. This paper present the comparisons between the continuous current mode(CCM) operated conventional boost converter and the boundary current mode(BCM) operated the bridgeless boost converter for high efficiency and high power factor.

  • In stereoscopy using stereo camera system, the representative factors inducing stereoscopic depth distortions have been reported such as the inter camera distance, the convergence angle and the depth resolution. The image distance is just known to us as a factor related in optical system. In a point of view of depth distortion, it will be a factor inducing a stereoscopic depth distortion. In this paper, we focused on the proof of our opinion that the image distance is one of the weighted factors inducing depth distortion under orthostereoscopic condition.

  • Most of low cost digital cameras reveal relatively high lens distortion. The purpose of this research is to compensate the degradation of image quality due to the geometrical distortion of a lens system. The proposed method consists of two stages : calculation of a lens distortion coefficient by a simplified version of Tsai´s camera calibration and subsequent image warping of the original distorted image to remove geometrical distortion based on the calculated lens distortion coefficient. In the lens distortion coefficient calculation stage, a practical method for handling scale factor ratio and image center is proposed, after which its feasibility is shown by measuring the performance of distortion correction using a quantitative image quality measure. On the other hand, in order to apply image warping via inverse spatial mapping using the result of the lens distortion coefficient calculation stage, a cubic polynomial derived from an adopted radial distortion lens model must be solved. In this paper, for the purpose of real-time operation, which is essential for embedding into an information device, an approximated solution to the cubic polynomial is proposed in the form of a solution to a quadratic equation. In the experiment, potential for real-time implementation and equivalence in performance as compared with that from cubic polynomial solution are shown.

  • A new active LED driver with high power factor (PF) and low total harmonic distortion (THD) compatible with a rapid-start ballast is proposed. An LC input filter is attached to the ballast to increase PF and reduce THD. A boost converter is then installed to regulate the LED current, where an unstable operating region has been newly identified. The unstable region is successfully stabilized by feedback control with two zeroes. The extremely high overall system of the 10th order is completely analyzed by the newly introduced phasor transformed circuits in static and dynamic analyses. Although a small DC capacitor is utilized, the flicker percentage of the LED is drastically mitigated to 1% by the fast controller. The proposed LED driver that employs a simple controller with a start-up circuit is verified by extensive experiments whose results are in good agreement with the design.
