  • This study investigated the phenomenon of modern people enjoying tattoo culture in Korea from the perspective of post subculture. A qualitative study was conducted using both literature review and in-depth interview methods. For post-subculture perspectives, the theories of Maffesoli (2017) and Thornton (1996), which are suitable for interpreting contemporary tattoo culture, were reviewed in terms of seven concepts: sporadic network, grouping, fluid participation, temporary emotional bond, self-distinction, pursuit of underground culture, and display and concealment. Semi-structured questionnaires were constructed and administered based on the organized characteristics. Five cultural qualities of the tattoo phenomenon in Korea were derived based on post-subculture concepts. Sporadic formation is related to the pattern of inflow into tattoo culture, and "streaming" participation is based on fluid participation and temporary ties. Distinction within subculture is based on self-distinction and pursuit of underground. The costume-playing ordinary concept includes the characteristic of controlling the exposure of tattoos in society. Finally, formation of the consumer tattoo market was newly discovered in Korean tattoo culture.

  • As it is important to measure the degree of the deterioration and predict service life caused by chloride in concrete structure the methods of measuring chloride in the concrete is raised important problems. This study is to set a new standard for using of the colorimetric method through grasping the character of the colorimetric distinction method, and measuring the chloride content at the place discolored. Also, to predict chloride content around embeded bar and time reaching limit chloride concentration through measuring the chloride content of concrete surface by colorimetric distinction method and this study presents the new concept of concrete degradation and diagnosis of the durability by salt damage. According the results, it is possible to use colorimetric distinction method as simplified measurement to measure the fixed quantity of the chloride concentration. What is more, it would make calculation of concrete surface chloride had a wide fluctuation at the general environment extended. Also, it would be make estimating durability of reinforced concrete structures applied to the basic data.

  • Accessible negative results are relevant for researchers and clinicians not only to limit their search space but also to prevent the costly re-exploration of research hypotheses. However, most biomedical relation extraction datasets do not seek to distinguish between a false and a negative relation among two biomedical entities. Furthermore, datasets created using distant supervision techniques also have some false negative relations that constitute undocumented/ unknown relations (missing from a knowledge base). We propose to improve the distinction between these concepts, by revising a subset of the relations marked as false on the phenotype-gene relations corpus and give the first steps to automatically distinguish between the false (F), negative (N), and unknown (U) results. Our work resulted in a sample of 127 manually annotated FNU relations and a weighted-F1 of 0.5609 for their automatic distinction. This work was developed during the 6th Biomedical Linked Annotation Hackathon (BLAH6).

  • All of the commercial silkworm races spread to farmhouses are hybrid of first generation, therefore distinction of sex of parent races is essential. But the existing sexual method which distinguish sex by outer sexual characteristics have many problems such as need of skilled worker and excessive efforts for distinction of sex. So more simple and accurate method fur distinction of sex is needed. (omitted)

  • Previous studies reveal that in English there is no EMG evidence fur the feature tense-lax distinction. The technique of electro-myography(EMG) was used to see if the existing claim holds true, particularly in unstressed syllable. It was found that in unstressed syllable, the peak EMG amplitude from the orbicularis oris superior muscle was significantly greater in /p/ than in /b/, while in stressed syllable this difference was negligible. It was hypothesized that in stressed syllable, /p/ and /b/ may be differentiated by the EMG activities from a muscle other than the orbicularis oris superior muscle, e.g. the respiratory muscles relating to 'aspiration' or depressor anguli oris muscle. In Korean, there was a clear labial gestures for the feature tense-lax distinction. The phoneme-sensitive manifestation of stress and some possible reasons for the inter-speaker variability in the data and the variability within a given speaker were discussed.

  • Current theories of cross-language speech perception claim that patterns of perceptual assimilation of non-native segments to native categories predict relative difficulties in learning to perceive (and produce) non-native phones. Perceptual assimilation patterns by Japanese listeners of the three-way voicing distinction in Korean syllable-initial obstruent consonants were assessed directly. According to Speech Learning Model (SLM) and Perceptual Assimilation Model (PAM), the resulting perceptual assimilation pattern predicts relative difficulty in discrimination between lenis and aspirated consonants, and relative ease in the discrimination of fortis. This study compared the effects of two different training conditions on Japanese adults’perceptual categorization of Korean three-way distinction. In one condition, participants were trained to discriminate lenis and aspirated consonants which were predicted to be problematic, whereas in another condition participants were trained with all three classes of 'learnability' did not seem to depend lawfully on the perceived cross-language similarity of Korean and Japanese consonants.

  • This study explores the most important temporal cues in the perception of the voiced/voiceless distinction of English plosives in terms of newly defined measures of perception: original signal to response agreement, unit signal to response agreement, and robustness. Seven native speakers of English and three leveled groups of Korean English learners participated in the present study. The results showed that both native speakers of English and Korean groups failed to successfully perceive the voiced/voiceless distinction of English plosives, particularly alveolar plosives, in word-medial trochaic positions. The results also showed that in word-initial and word-medial iambic positions both native speakers of English and Korean groups employ the information in the release burst and aspiration in the perception of the voiced/voiceless distinction, of English plosives, and that in word-final positions native speakers of English employ the information in the preceding vowel, while Korean groups employ the information in the closure interval.

  • This paper proposes a distinction algorithm of Korean and English characters which can be applied to multi-font from the results of thinning. The proposed algorithm distinguishes Korean and English characters as the number of connected components. If it can not distinguish those characters with the number of connected component, it distinguishes them as the vowel included in Korean characters. In experimental results, the distinction rate is about 99.82% for the 21,150 characters of three widely used fonts.

  • In this paper, Recently, we describe the distinction mechanism analysis and injurious distinction mechanism performance analysis in order to determine harmfulness of the injurious multimedia which is being rapidly spread in the smart phone and Intelligent Robots. Based on the injurious mechanism distinction technologies, We defined individual injurious characteristics elements of multimedia(images and videos). Also, We analyze harmfulness of the injurious multimedia content by the visual characteristics modeling.

  • This paper tests whether frication duration plays an important role in perceiving fricatives and affricates. In other words, whether the frication duration is an acoustic cue for distinguishing fricatives from affricates. For this purpose two types of experiments are carried out. In the first experiment two sets of stimuli are created by decreasing the frication duration of fricatives by 10ms, and in the second experiment two steps of stimuli are created by increasing the frication duration of affricates by 10 ms. The results of the present study show that frication duration is the primary acoustic cue in perceiving fricative/affricate distinction in Korean. In addition, the amplitude rise time and burst information appear to play secondary roles in perceiving the distinction by a series of perception tests.
