  • Physicochemical properties for the inclusion complex of chenodeoxycholic acid(CDCA) and it's $7{\beta}-hydroxy$ epimer ursodeoxycholic acid(UDCA) with ${\beta}-cyclodextrin({\beta}-CyD)$ were studied. The formation of the complex in the solid state were confimed by polarized microscopy and differential scanning calorimetry(DSC). Proton nuclear magnetic resonance$(^1H-NMR)$spectroscopy showed that CDCA and UDCA form an inclusion complex with ${\beta}-CyD$ in aqueous solution. The 1 : 1 stoichiometry of the complex was dextermined by the continuous variation method. From DSC and $^1H-NMR$ studies, there were not any differences between CDCA and UDCA. Complex of CDCA and UDCA showed increase in solubility and dissolution compared with CDCA and UDCA alone, respectively. Solubility pattern of UDCA complex was pH independent but, CDCA complex was like that of CDCA. Dissolution rate increased markedly in case of UDCA complex compared with CDCA complex, especially in acidic pH value.

  • Ethanolamine (ETA), instead of ammonia, increases pH in the secondary system water and inhibits the corrosion of iron, which improves the integrity of the steam generator tubes. The different physicochemical properties of ETA from ammonia provide the different effect on the dissolution and adsorption of corrosion products entering the steam generator and thus on the hideout returns of ionic impurities in the steam generator sludge pile. The objective of this study was to investigate those properties with increasing temperature. ETA is more adsorbed onto the iron oxides, which increases the solubility of them and also lowers the hideout returns due to the reduced impurities adsorbed.

  • Regenerated cellulose was prepared from Buckeye wood pulp V60 via dissolution in N-methylmorpholin N-oxide (NMMO) solvent system. The effect of antioxidants such as, n-propylgallate (PG), tris(nonylphenyl) phosphite (TRIS), ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid disodium salt (EDTA), and magnesium sulfate on the properties of regenerated cellulose was studied using X-ray diffraction, copper index calculation, and viscometry. Only addition of more than 0.01% of PG into NMMO solvent was effective to avoid the reduction of the degree of polymerization(DP) of regenerated cellulose during dissolution at $110^{\circ}C$. However, the early stage(within 0.5h of dissolution process) degradation of cellulose was not prevented eventhough up to 0.5% PG was appled to hot NMMO system. In addition, to recover the expensive NMMO after cellulose regenerating process, the washing filtrate was studied using simple techniques, such as refractive index, pH, and conductivity measurements. Through conductivity measurement result, 4-time of washing was enough to remove the NMMO completely from regenerated cellulose.

  • The size of furosemide was reduced by the recrystallization method in order to increase the dissolution rate of the drug. Surfactants or hydrophilic polymers were used to suppress the aggregation in the crystal formation-growth process of microparticles by dispersing action. Dissolution rate of microparticles increased remarkably due to the size reduction of microparticle. The particle size decreased with increasing the concentration of the drug and the dispersing agents, i.e., surfactants or hydrophilic polymers. No polymorphic transition occurred during the microcrystallization process, but the habit of crystal formation was altered in the case of anionic surfactant.

  • Addition of Ca element and nonequilibrium heat treatment which promotes shape modification of eutectic Si and ${\beta}$ intermetallic compound were conducted to improve the mechanical properties of Al-Si-Cu alloy. Modification of eutectic Si and dissolution of needle-shape ${\beta}$ intermetallic compounds were possible by nonequilibrium heat treatment in which specimens were held at $505^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours in Al-Si-Cu alloy with Fe. Owing to the decrease in aspect ratio of eutectic Si by the heat treatment of the alloy with 0.33wt.% Fe, the increase in elongation was prominent to be more than double that in the as-cast specimen. Dissolution of needle-shape ${\beta}$ intermetallic compounds in the alloy with 0.85wt.% Fe led to the improvement of tensile strength as the length of ${\beta}$ compounds decreased to 50%.

  • Physicochemical properties of aspalatone (acetylsalicylic acid maltol ester, AM), which has been recently found to have an antithrombotic effect, were studied in terms of solubility, dissolution, partition coefficient (Pc) and stability. The solubility of AM at 37$^{\circ}C$ was about 1.2 mg/ml and the P$_{c}$ value for n-octanol/water and chloroform/water was 11.4 and 382.6, respectively. Dissolution rates of AM at pH 1.2 and 6.8 were more than 80% within 30 min. The degradation of AM followed apparent first-order kinetics, and was dependent on temperature, pH and ionic strength. From the pH-rate profile, the optimal pH was found to be at around 4.0. Half-lives at pH 1.2 and 6.8 were 33.5 and 44.4 hr, respectively. The degradation rate of AM at pH 1.2 was somewhat faster than that of aspirin, but at pH 7.0, the degradation rate of AM was slower than that of aspirin.n.

  • Stability and chemical durability for aqueous casting of BaTiO3 slurry with polycarylic acid(PAA) were studied. PAA was well chemisorbed on surface of BaTiO3 powder at neutral pH but did not chemically adsorbed at low pH. The amount of Ba dissolution in aqueous BaTiO3 slurry was abruptly increased at strong acid pH2 and also at high amount of PAA. Protection of Ba dissolution and stability of slurry could be obtained through the optimization of slurry conditions such as pH amount of surfactant and solid content.

  • Gelatin microcapsules containing Ftorafur, a hydrophilic anticancer agent, were prepared with congealable disperse-phase emulsification method. The preparation was based on dispersion of ftorafur-gelatin solution with Tween #40 or Span #20 in liquid paraffin. A cationic surfactant, benzethonium chloride, was used to prevent the microcapsules from aggregation. In the case of microcapsules prepared with Tween #40 or Span #20, mean particle size decreased and narrow size distribution was observed. The intrinsic dissolution rate of ftorafur in microcapsules with 1% span #20 was 8.5 times lower than that of intact ftorafur.

  • A study was made to investigate the effects of various binders on the physical properties of acetaminophen granules and tablets prepared by wet and fluidized bed granulation methods. The binders used were povidone (K-90), hydroxypropylcellulose (HPC-L) and gelatin. The fluidized bed granules were more porous than the wet massed, and the tablets prepared by fluidized system showed improved disintegration and dissolution characteristics. The dissolution rate was fast in the order of gelatin>povidone>hydroxypropylcellulose in tablets prepared by fluidized system, and povidone>hydroxypropylcellulose>gelatin in tablets prepared by wet granulation.

  • The glass formation and the dissolution property in $P_2O_5-K_2O$-FeO-CuO system were studied. In the batch process, the content of P2O5 was fixed at 60mol% and the other elements were varied from 10~40mol%. The prepared glasses were soaked in the D.I. water up to 13hr and the dissolution properties were investigated with the solutions sampled every 2 hr. The result shows that the $P_2O_5$ was leached out firstly from Phosphate glass system and then Cu and Fe ions were observed according to atmosphere change in solution. ICP shows that the dissolution amount in Phosphate was depended on the glass structure and the highest dissolution amount of CuO and FeO ions was observed when the 10mol% $K_2O$ was added in batch process.
