  • We report a facile synthetic approach of high-quality chromium(III) terephthalate [MIL-101(Cr)] by acetate-assisted method in the absence of toxic HF. Results indicate that the morphology and surface area of the MIL-101(Cr) can be tuned by modifying the molar ratio of acetate/$Cr(NO_3)_3$. The Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area of MIL-101(Cr) synthesized at the optimized condition can exceed 3300 $m^2/g$. It is confirmed that acetate could promote the dissolution of di-carboxylic linker and accelerate the nucleation ratio. So the pure and small size of MIL-101(Cr) with clean pores can be obtained. $CO_2$, $CH_4$ and $N_2$ adsorption isotherms of the samples are studied at 298 K and 313 K. Compared with the traditional method, MIL-101(Cr) synthesized by acetate-assisted method possess enhanced $CO_2$ selective adsorption capacity. At 1.0 bar 298 K, it exhibits 47% enhanced $CO_2$ adsorption capacity. This may be attributed to the high surface area together with clean pores of MIL-101(Cr).

  • The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of solution treatment on the corrosion behavior of Mg-8%Al-(0-1)%Zn casting alloys in 1M NaCl aqueous solution. After the solution treatment, all alloys showed single ${\alpha}$-(Mg) phase microstructure by dissolution of ${\beta}(Mg_{17}Al_{12})$ phase into the ${\alpha}$-(Mg) matrix. The $H_2$ evolution volume decreased with an increase in Zn content, which indicates that the addition of Zn plays a beneficial role in decreasing corrosion rate of the Mg-Al-Zn alloy in solution-treated state. The microstructural evaluations on the corrosion products and corroded surfaces after the immersion test in 1 M NaCl solution revealed that the incorporation of more $Al_2O_3$ and ZnO into the corrosion product, by which the penetration of $Cl^-$ ions is impeded, are thought to be responsible for the better corrosion resistance in relation with the Zn addition.

  • The copper-zinc(Cu-Zn) nanofiber was prepared by electrospinning method. The Cu/PVP (polyvinylpyrrolidone) and Zn/PVP precursor solutions were prepared by dissolution of copper sulfate and zinc acetate in methanol, respectively. The PVP was used to control the viscosity of the precursor solutions. The optimized ratio for the Cu/PVP and Zn/PVP nanofibers was determined separately. Then the suitable ratio of the precursor solutions was applied for fabrication of Cu/Zn/PVP nanofiber. For the electrospinning method, the precursor solutions were filled in a syringe. The distance between metallic needle on the syringe and collector was fixed at 16 cm and the voltage was applied on the tip was 13.0 kV. And the as-spun nanofiber was heated at 353K for removal of residual solvent. Then the heated nanofibers were calcined at 973K to decompose PVP. The obtained Cu, Zn, and Cu-Zn nanofibers were investigated with X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) for the chemical properties, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) for the morphologies, and X-ray diffraction (XRD) to characterize the crystallinity and phase of nanofibers.

  • Polyacrylonitrile (PAN) copolymers of different molecular weights were synthesized by a suspension polymerization and precipitation polymerization method. The rheology behaviors of the synthesized PAN copolymers were investigated in relation to their molecular weight, solid content and melting temperature. The influence of "historical effects" on the spinning solution of PAN was studied by analyzing the laws of viscosity considering the diversification time and temperature. The viscosity disciplines of each spinning solution conformed well to the rheological universal laws in a comparison of the suspension polymerization product with that of precipitation polymerization. Viscosity changes in the swelling process of dissolution were gentler in the suspension polymerization product; a small amount of water will quickly debase the solution viscosity, and high-speed mixing can greatly shorten the time required by the spinning solution to reach the final viscosity.

  • The tannin acid and the enzymes have been used in order to improve the ruggedness in laundry and the absorption of dyes and pigments in the textile industry for several years. The enzyme processing on the protein fiber minimizes the damage of the entire fiber and improves the dyeability by effectively modifying only the hydrophobic surface. This study tried out the structural observation by applying the Castanea crenata sieb. et. zucc. containing abundant tannin to the hair dyeing as the natural dyeing pigment along with Protease of Rhizopus sp. The dyeability was improved as compared to the dyeing using only the synthetic tanning and iron mordant. When the depth of pigment was higher in accordance with the surface observation, the enzyme dissolution had impact on dyeing and so the keratin layer on the hair surface. Accordingly, it was found that the appropriate depth was between 0.01 and 0.03%. It was estimated that 0.1% protease would treated within 30min. Consequently, it would cause the good reaction with the functional group of tannin pigment.

  • This study was conducted to analyze the difference in mechanically improved properties by distinguishing α-chitin and β-chitin for Poly(L-lactic acid)(PLLA). First, dissolution of chitins was established by mixing polar solvents hexafluoroisopropanol (HFIP) and trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) in appropriate proportions. Under these conditions, the dissolved chitin was used for electrospinning with other polymers. The electrospun nanofibers of the PLLA and chitins were successfully produced. Compared to the pristine state, when chitin was added to PLLA, the tensile strength increased 1.41 times (α-chitin), by 1.61 times (β- chitin), respectively. Based on this, it was confirmed that α- and β- chitin could be strategically used for different polymers. The results also suggest that chitin can be applied to various fields as good reinforcing material as well as electrospinning.

  • Al-brass is the raw material of mnufacturing tubes for heat exchanger of vessel where seawater is used to coolant because it has high level of heat coductivity and excellent mechanical properties and high level of corrosion resistance due to cuprous oxide($Cu_2O$) layer against seawater. However, damage of Al-brass tubes for heat exchanger of vessel is reported that local corrosion such as stress corrosion cracking occurred by synergism effect between mechanical factor and corrosion environment. In this study, to investigate on the effect of stress on the polarization characteristics of Al-brass. At the stress of 0% and 95% yield strength by constant displacement tester, in 3.5% NaCl + 0.1% $NH_4OH$ solution, the polarization tests were carried out. And thus open circuit potential, corrosion current density, anodic polarization, cyclic polarization and dezincification behavior of Al-brass are investigated.

  • Objectives This study aims to evaluate the size-dependent toxicity of spherical silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) to an endemic benthic organism, Glyptotendipes tokunagai. Methods Ag nanoparticles of three nominal sizes (50, 100, and 150 nm) capped with polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP-Ag NPs) were used. Their physicochemical properties, acute toxicity (48 hours), and bioaccumulation were measured using third instar larvae of G. tokunagai. Results The aggregation and dissolution of PVP-Ag NPs increased with exposure time and concentration, respectively, particularly for 50 nm PVP-Ag NPs. However, the dissolved concentration of Ag ions was not significant compared with the median lethal concentration value for $AgNO_3$ (3.51 mg/L). The acute toxicity of PVP-Ag NPs was highest for the smallest particles (50 nm), whereas bioaccumulation was greatest for the largest particles (150 nm). However, larger PVP-Ag NPs were absorbed and excreted rapidly, resulting in shorter stays in G. tokunagai than the smaller ones. Conclusions The size of PVP-Ag NPs significantly affects their acute toxicity to G. tokunagai. In particular, smaller PVP-Ag NPs have a higher solubility and stay longer in the body of G. tokunagai, resulting in higher toxicity than larger PVP-Ag NPs.

  • The electric arc furnace (EAF) dust used in this experiment showed the formation of an irregular agglomerate of small spherical particles and consisted of 27.5% Fe, 18% Zn, 4.83% Pb and 10.2% CaO, and it also contained 3.26% Cl and 0.15% F. IR spectra peaks of Pb(OH)Cl were observed at 1630 and 1377 ${cm}^{-1}$ regions and the intensity decreased using an acid treatment (1N ${H}_{2}{SO}_{4}$) and thermal treatment at above 600℃, but it was not affected by washing process. Those of ${Zn}_{5}{(OH)}_{8}{Cl}_{2}$ treated by oxidation showed broad absorption peak at 3600∼3200 ${cm}^{-1}$, main peaks at 1136 and 1040 ${cm}^{-1}$ and a splitting peak at 991 and 921 ${cm}^{-1}$ which were believed to be due to ZnO by oxidation at about 700∼. The IR spectra of the dust residues by a washing process show the same peaks at 3449, 1635, 1439, 875, 571 and 455 ${cm}^{-1}$ regions, but the peaks at 2942, 2862, 1136 and 1040 ${cm}^{-1}$ decreased and disappeared using an acid treatment and washing process, which is believed to be due to the dissolution of zinc hydroxyl chloride.

  • Hot AC anodising has been evaluated us pre-treatment for aluminium prior to structural adhesive bonding. Phosphoric and sulphuric acid hot AC anodising showed very promising adhesion promoter capabilities with durability comparable with the best standard DC anodising procedures. AC anodising does not required etching prior to anodising and offers u pre-treatment time down to 20 seconds. The interface/interphase between the aluminium substrate and the adhesive was investigated in order to get a better understanding of the involved adhesion mechanisms and to explain the long-tenn properties. The alkaline medium formed at the oxide layer/adhesive interface has been shown to induce a partial dissolution of the oxide layer leading to the formation of metallic ions which diffuse in the adhesive (EPMA measurements). The effect of diffusion of the Al ions on adhesion and joint durability is still uncertain but studies showed that pre-bond moisture affected the joints durability and to some extent the diffusion length. specially for DC anodised samples. So far no direct correlation could be established between the diffusion length d and the joints durability but new trials with better control over the elapsed time between bonding and adhesive curing are expected to help getting a better understanding of the involved mechanisms.
