DEPTH AND LAYOUT OPTIMIZATIONS OF A RADIOACTIVE WASTE REPOSITORY IN A DISCONTINUOUS ROCK MASS BASED ON A THERMOMECHANICAL MODEL

  • The objective of the present study is the depth and layout optimizations of a single layer, high level radioactive waste repository in a discontinuous rock mass with special joint set arrangements. A single layer repository model, considering variations in the repository depths, pitches, and tunnel spacings, is used to analyze the thermomechanical interaction behavior. It is assumed that the repository is constructed in saturated granite with joints; the PWR spent fuel in a disposal canister is installed in a deposition drift which is then sealed with compacted bentonite; and the backfill material is filled in the repository tunnel. The decay heat generated by the high level radioactive wastes governs the thermomechanical behavior of the near field rock mass of the repository. The temperature and displacement behavior of the repository is influenced more by the pitch variations than the tunnel spacing and repository depth. However, the stress behavior is influenced more by the repository depth variations than the pitch and tunnel spacing. For the final selection of the tunnel spacing, pitch, and repository depth, other aspects such as the nuclide migration through a groundwater flow path, construction costs, operation costs, and so on should be considered.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate some influencing factors related to housewives' environmental concern and environmental management behavior. Data were collected from questionaire with 786 housewives who live in Jeonbuk area. The results could be summarized as follows. The level of environmental concern was relatively high and differed significantly according to the level of innovation, residence, the level of education, and age of wives. But the level of environmental management behavior was relatively low, especially clothing disposal behavior and buying something to eat. These findings pointed that the program of environmental education should be more pragmatic.

Study on Rainfall Infiltration Into Vault of Near-surface Disposal Facility Based on Various Disposal Scenarios

  • In this study, rainfall infiltration in vault of the second near-surface disposal facility was evaluated on the basis of various disposal scenarios. A total of four different disposal scenarios were examined based on the locations of the radioactive waste containers. A numerical model was developed using the FEFLOW software and finite element method to simulate the behavior of infiltrated water in each disposal scenario. The effects of the disposal scenarios on the infiltrated water were evaluated by estimating the flux of the infiltrated water at the vault interfaces. For 300 years, the flux of infiltrated water flowing into the vault was estimated to be 1 mm/year or less for all scenario. The overall results suggest that when the engineered barriers are intact, the flux of infiltrated water cannot generate a sufficient pressure head to penetrate the vault. In addition, it is confirmed that the disposal scenarios have insignificant effects on the infiltrated water flowing into the vault.

  • A geochemical approach to the long-term safety of waste disposal is discussed in connection with the significance of actinides, which shall deliver the major radioactivity inventory subsequent to the relatively short-term decay of fission products. Every power reactor generates transuranic (TRU) elements: plutonium and minor actinides (Np, Am, Cm), which consist chiefly of long-lived nuclides emitting alpha radiation. The amount of TRU actinides generated in a fuel life period is found to be relatively small (about 1 wt% or less in spent fuel) but their radioactivity persists many hundred thousands years. Geological confinement of waste containing TRU actinides demands, as a result, fundamental knowledge on the geochemical behavior of actinides in the repository environment for a long period of time. Appraisal of the scientific progress in this subject area is the main objective of the present paper. Following the introductory discussion on natural radioactivities, the nuclear fuel cycle is briefly brought up with reference to actinide generation and waste disposal. As the long-term disposal safety concerns inevitably with actinides, the significance of the aquatic actinide chemistry is summarized in two parts: the fundamental properties relevant to their aquatic behavior and the geochemical reactions in nanoscopic scale. The constrained space of writing allows discussion on some examples only, for which topics of the primary concern are selected, e.g. apparent solubility and colloid generation, colloid-facilitated migration, notable speciation of such processes, etc. Discussion is summed up to end with how to make a geochemical approach available for the long-term disposal safety of nuclear waste or for the performance assessment (PA) as known generally.

소비자 구매행동유형과 환경에 대한 태도 및 환경 친화적 행동 (The style of consumers' purchase, consumers' attitudes toward environment and pro-environmental behavior.)

  • This study categorizes consumers by the style of consumers' purchase behavior, and examines the differences in consumers' attitudes toward environment and pro-environmental behavior in the stage of purchase, usage, and disposal. The results of this study are summarized below: First, The style of consumers' purchase behavior can be categorized on a basis of four factors: fashioned-demonstrative consumer group focusing on fashion and demonstration effects when purchasing; rational consumer group more likely to concern price, quality, and product function; indifferent consumer group having no interest in purchasing; and fashioned-functional consumer group who values not only fashion but function. Second, the result of investigating the differences of consumers' attitudes toward environment reveals that the level of concern and awareness for environment is highest in rational consumer group, but lowest in indifferent consumer group. Also, it is higher in fashioned-functional consumer group than in fashioned-demonstrative consumer group. Lastly, the level of pro-environmental behavior in the stage of purchase, usage, and disposal is highest in rational consumer group, but lowest in indifferent consumer group. The level of pro-environmental behavior in usage stage is inactive in fashioned-demonstrative consumer group, whereas that in disposal stage is active in fashioned-functional consumer group for fashioned-demonstrative consumer group. It was so, especially in the area of not-being-a-litterbug.

건설폐기물 기업의 폐기물처리량이 이익조정에 미치는 영향 - 허용보관량 규모와 폐기물처리장 소재지를 중심으로 - (The Effect of Waste Disposal Volume on Earnings Management Behavior in the Construction Waste Disposal Industry - Focused on the Size of the Licensed Storage Capacity and the Location of the Waste Disposal Site -)

  • 본 연구에서는 건설폐기물 기업의 폐기물처리량이 이익조정에 미치는 영향이 허용보관량 규모와 폐기물처리장 소재지에 따라서 차별적으로 나타나는지를 검증하였다. 주요 실증분석 결과 첫째, 건설폐기물 기업의 폐기물처리량은 이익조정에 영향을 미치며, 허용보관량 규모별로 규모가 작은 기업의 경우 폐기물처리량이 적을수록, 규모가 큰 기업의 경우 폐기물처리량이 많을수록 재량적 발생액을 이용한 이익조정이 이루어지는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 폐기물처리량이 이익조정에 미치는 영향은 폐기물처리장 소재지별로 비수도권에 소재한 기업의 경우 폐기물처리량이 적을수록, 수도권에 소재한 기업의 경우 폐기물처리량이 많을수록 재량적 발생액 및 실물활동을 통한 이익조정이 이루어지는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구결과는 아직까지 연구되지 않은 건설폐기물 기업의 이익조정 동기 요인으로 폐기물처리량의 영향을 분석하고 그 효과가 허용보관량 규모와 폐기물처리장의 소재지 등 기업이 처한 환경에 따라 차별적으로 나타난다는 실증결과를 제시하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다.

친환경적 의복구매행동과 의복활용 및 처분행동에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Purchasing Behavior and Usage of Environmentally Friendly Clothing and the Disposal of Clothing)

  • This study investigates the disposal of clothing and the purchasing behavior and usage of environmentally friendly clothing. After compiling data from 500 consumers who reside in Seoul, it was analyzed by ANOVA, t-test, Chi-square, and multiple regression analysis. The behavioral score for buying environmentally friendly clothing was lower than the average value of the three. The lowest value was for the purchase of used clothing, but the purchase of environmentally friendly clothing was also shown to have a low value. For the usage and disposal of clothing, unused clothing, which was mostly just left in dresser drawers, was the most preferable method. Also, exchange or resale via anInternet mall was shown to be lower than the other methods. The analysis between clothing purchase and usage as well as the disposal of clothing with socio-demographics, consumption tendencies, opinions of friends and groups, commercials and advertisements, and environmental perceptions points out differences among groups. There are statistically significant differences in the purchasing intentions of slow fashion according to socio-demographics. Female consumers between $20{\sim}25$ years of age were more likely to purchase slow fashion clothing. Consumers with a high consumption tendency who were highly influenced by commercials, friends, and groups were more likely to purchase slow fashion clothing. The influence of the average clothing expenditure on an environmentally friendly purchasing behavior and the influence of the age group on repairing and usagewas the most effective. All in all, contribution to an environmentally friendly perception was the most effective variable.

  • 사용후핵연료의 심층처분 개념에서 근계영역 암반은 열-수리-역학적 복합거동을 하게 되는 것으로 잘 알려져있다. 이러한 복합거동 과정에서 암석의 여러 물성들은 변화하는데, 이러한 물성변화를 합리적으로 반영하는 경우 고준위방사성폐기물 처분장의 장기안정성의 평가를 위해 활용되는 해석 및 현장시험의 신뢰도를 향상시킬 수 있다. 이를 위해 본 기술보고에서는 암석의 열-수리-역학적 간접복합거동에 관한 국내외 연구사례를 조사하고 분석하였다. 특히, 간접복합거동의 대표적인 사례 중 지하수에 의한 포화 및 온도 증가에 따른 암석의 여러 물성 변화, 응력 변화에 의한 투수계수 변화를 중점적으로 조사·요약하였다.

소비자구매행동유형에 따른 의류제품의 환경친화적 소비행동 분석 (Consumer's Pro-environmental Behavior Relating to Clothing by the Style of Purchase Behavior)

  • Or this research, it was investigated the differences in the pro-environmental behaviors in purchase, use and management, and disposal of clothing by socio-demographic characteristics and other variables. In addition, it was classified Korean consumers into several comsumer groups based on the different purchase behavior style, and then investigated the difference among these consumer groups in purchase, use and management, and disposal of clothing in light of the pro-environmental behavior. The following is the summary of the main results. First, consumers with high income and ha41g a lot of clothing were less likely to purchase used-clothing while consumers who were non-married and in low-income status were more likely to rent clothing. In additions, female, married consumers, and consumers with less-educated were more likely to manage their clothing frequently. Second, it was classified consumers into several groups based on the different purchase behavior style, these were "rational purchasing", "saving-money purchasing", "regretting for their purchasing", and "over-purchasing". Third, "saving-money purchasing" group showed a high expenditure rate in the purchase of used-clothing but a low rate in "over-purchasing" group. The frequency of management of clothing was the highest in the group of "over-purchasing" and the next in the group of "saving-money purchasing". The group of "over-purchasing" were more likely to show irrational decision-making style, manage and disposal their clothing frequently, "saving-money purchasing" purchased used-clothing frequently, and the level of management of clothing were less in the group of "regretting for their purchasing".

처분공 가열-수화 조건에서 벤토나이트 완충재의 열-수리-역학적 거동 특성 평가 (Evaluation of thermal-hydro-mechanical behavior of bentonite buffer under heating-hydration condition at disposal hole)

  • 처분공 내에 위치한 완충재는 사용후핵연료로부터 발산된 고온의 붕괴열과 지하수에 노출되며, 이와 같은 가열-수화를 포함한 처분환경 하의 완충재의 열-수리-역학-화학적 상호작용은 완충재의 장기적 성능과 건전성에 핵심적으로 작용하는 것으로 알려져 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 처분환경 조건에서 완충재의 가열-수화 특성 및 지하수 지화학 조건을 고려한 벤토나이트의 열-수리-역학-화학적(Thermal-Hydraulic-Mechanical-Chemical, 이하 THMC) 복합거동 특성 규명을 위한 실험실 규모의 Lab.THMC 실험시스템을 개발하였다. 본 실험시스템은 스페인 CIEMAT의 열-수리-역학 복합거동 실험장치를 토대로 개발되었으며, 화학적 특성을 달리한 지하수 주입 조건에서 벤토나이트 완충재의 가열-수화 특성을 파악하고 응력 변화를 계측함으로써 열-수리-화학적 변화에 따른 역학적 성능 변화 특성을 규명하는 것을 목표로 한다. 본 기술논문에서는 개발된 Lab.THMC 실험시스템의 설계 및 구성을 간략하게 소개하고, 장치 검토 및 주요 변수설정을 위해 수행된 예비실험 결과와 차후 연구계획에 대해 정리하였다.
