  • The contact resistivity of the black interlayer which has been introduced between BUS and ITO electrodes in a plasma display panel was evaluated using two kinds of specially designed test electrode patterns. Of the two, type 2 pattern was able to evaluate the contact resistivity more successfully, which was calculated as about $250{\Omega}$ in the suggested test pattern structure.

  • A low cost PDP sustain power supply is proposed based on flyback topology using Boundary Conduction Mode(BCM) to control input current regulation. This method guarantees DCM condition to regulate the input current harmonics under all load conditions. An excessive voltage stress due to the link voltage increase can be suppressed by removing link capacitor and adjusting transformer turns ratios, which makes it possible to be used for universal line applications. The proposed converter is tested with a 400W(200V-2A output) prototype circuit.

  • Black-white reflective cholesteric liquid crystal display was prepared with two color liquid crystal layers, the combination of yellow color liquid crystal and blue color liquid crystal. The rubbing of cholesteric liquid crystal panel affects the brightness and color spectrum due to increase the planar domain texture. The CIE chromaticity coordinate of white is (0.31, 0.31).

  • Plasma Display Panel(PDP) is a type of flat panel display utilizing the light emission produced by gas discharge. Barrier Ribs of PDP separating each sub-pixel prevents optical and electrical crosstalks from adjacent sub-pixels. The mold for forming the barrier ribs has been newly researched to overcome the disadvantages of conventional manufacturing processes such as screen printing, sand-blasting and photosensitive glass methods. The mold for PDP barrier ribs have stripes of micro grooves transferring glass-material wall. In this paper , Stripes of grooves of which width 48$\mu$m, depth 124$\mu$m , pitch 274$\mu$m was acquired by machining of single crystal silicon with dicing saw blade. Maximum roughness of the bottom of the grooves was 59.6 nm Ra in grooving Si. Barrier ribs were farmed with silicone rubber mold, which is transferred from grooved Si forming hard mold. Silicone rubber mold has the elasticity, which enable to accommodate the waviness of lower glass plate of PDP. The methods assisted by the microwave and UV was adopted for reducing the forming time of glass paste.

  • We fabricated flexible electrophoretic display(EPD) driven by organic thin film transistors(OTFTs) on plastic substrate. We designed the W/L of OTFT to be 15, considering EPD's transient characteristics. The OTFTs employed bottom contact structure and used Al for gate electrode, the cross-linked polyvinylphenol for gate insulator, pentacene for active layer. The plastic substrate was coated by PVP barrier layer in order to remove the islands which were formed after pre-shrinkage process and caused the electrical short between bottom scan and top data metal lines. Pentacene active layer was confined within the gate electrodes so that the off current was controlled and reduced by gate electrodes. Especially, PVA/Acryl double layers were inserted between EPD panel and OTFT-backplane in order to protect OTFT-backplane from the damages created by lamination process of EPD panel on the backplane and also accommodate pixel electrodes through via holes. From the OTFT-backplane the mobility was $0.21cm^2/V.s$, Ion/Ioff current ratio $10^5$. The OTFT-EPD panel worked successfully and demonstrated to display some patterns.

  • An efficient sustain driver and a useful reset circuit composition technique are proposed for plasma display panel drive. The proposed sustain driver uses a series resonance between an external inductor and a panel to recover the energy dissipated by a capacitive displacement current of PDP. It consists of four switching devices, an inductor, and external capacitors, which supply sustain voltage sources. Although the amplitude of an input voltage source is twice as high as that of conventional sustain drivers, average voltage stress imposed on power switching devices is nearly same in their values. Moreover, the input voltage source can be directly applied for the use of a reset voltage source. Owing to this scheme, the proposed sustain driver and the embedded reset circuit have a simple configuration. The operational principle and design example are given with theoretical analyses. The validity of the proposed drive system is verified through experiments using a prototype equipped with a 7.5-inch-diagonal AC plasma display panel.

  • This paper proposes a new multi-level energy recovery sustaining driver for AC PDP(Plasma Display Panel), which solves the problems and maintains the merits of the conventional multi-level sustaining driver. While the conventional circuit improves the hard switching in the Weber circuit, there exist parasitic resonant currents in resonant inductors and Vs/2 sustaining period. Comparing the proposed circuit with the conventional circuit, the number of inductors are reduced by half, the parasitic resonant currents in resonant inductors are eliminated, and the hard switching problem is solved by CIM(Current Injection Method). Moreover the voltages across series-connected switching elements in the full bridge circuit are distributed equally by adopting NPC(Neutral Point Clamping) techniques. And circuit operations of the proposed circuit are analyzed for each mode and the validity is verified by the simulations using PSpice program and experimentation with a prototype drive circuit.

  • Objectives: The aim of this study was to provide baseline data for the assessment of exposure to indium and to prevent adverse health effects among workers engaged in the electronics and related industries in Republic of Korea. Methods: Total (n = 369) and respirable (n = 384) indium concentrations were monitored using personal air sampling in workers at the following 19 workplaces: six sputtering target manufacturing companies, four manufacturing companies of panel displays, two companies engaged in cleaning of sputtering components, two companies dedicated to the cleaning of sputtering target, and five indium recycling companies. Results: The level of exposure to total indium ranged from 0.9 to 609.3 ㎍/m3 for the sputtering target companies; from 0.2 to 2,782.0 ㎍/m3 for the panel display companies and from 0.5 to 2,089.9 ㎍/m3 for the indium recycling companies. The level of exposure to respirable indium was in the range of 0.02 to 448.6 ㎍/m3 for the sputtering target companies; 0.01 to 419.5 ㎍/m3 for the panel display companies; and 0.5 to 436.3 ㎍/m3 for the indium recycling companies. The indium recycling companies had the most samples exceeding the exposure standard for indium, followed by sputtering target companies and panel display companies. Conclusions: The main finding from this exposure assessment is that many workers who handle indium compounds in the electronics industry are exposed to indium levels that exceed the exposure standards for indium. Hence, it is necessary to continuously monitor the indium exposure of this workforce and take measures to reduce its exposure levels.

  • The temperature distribution of a glass plate heated in the infrared heating chamber has been investigated. Temperature of the glass panel is measured using a set of thermocouples and the optical pyrometer. Temperatures measured by thermocouples have good agreement with those by the pyrometer. The temperature uniformity of the panel is improved with wall reflectivity, which is one of the important factors to uniformly heat the panel
