The conventionally classified waves are reclassified in this paper, including the waves associated with metamaterial (MTM) transmission lines. Various types of guided waves in periodic structures are analyzed for 1D Composite Right/Left Handed (CRLH) transmission lines (TL). In addition, dispersion diagrams for 1D CRLH, RH, and LH TLs are presented in terms of radiation conditions. We have refined the design equations of the conventional 1D CRLH TL and proposed a condition to realize the desired phase shift and its slope per unit cell. This condition has been applied to the conventional Wilkinson power divider and realized into MTM added $90^{\circ}$ hybrid coupler. Based on the 10 dB return loss and the $90{\pm}10^{\circ}$ phase shift, the bandwidths of the MTM added $90^{\circ}$ hybrid coupler are 82.25% and 103.5% against the conventional 23% and 52.5%, respectively.
In this letter, a compact and fully printed composite right- and left-handed (CRLH) dual-band power divider is proposed. The branches of the conventional Wilkinson power divider are replaced by subwavelength CRLH phase-shift lines having $+90^{\circ}$ for one frequency and $-90^{\circ}$ for another frequency for dual-band and miniaturization performance. Equations are derived for the even- and odd-mode analysis combined with the dual-band CRLH circuit. A PCS and a WLAN band are chosen as the test case and the circuit approach agrees with the CAD simulation and the measurement. Additionally, the CRLH property is shown with the dispersion diagram and the eightfold size reduction is noted.

We developed a two-dimensional numerical simulator which can analyze the electrical as well as optical characteristics and evaluate the detection performances of self-signal processing infrared detectors. It solves the poisson equation and the electron, hole current continuity equations including the optical generation and recombination models. To speed up convergency rate. the Newton algorithm is used. Automatic triangular grid generator make it easy to simulate the devices with the various read-out geometries. This simulator can show the variation of spatial resolution which is caused by the transit velocity and transit time dispersion in bifurcate and horn geometries respectively. Also, we calculated the responsivity, noise, and detectivity in respect of the applied electric field and background field-of-view. The results obtained from simulation correspond to those of experiments, and it is verified that horn read-out geometry has the superior spatial resolution and detection performance to bifurcate geometry.

New method to calculate the characteristics of the dominant and higher order modes of waveguide latching phase shifters are presented. Due to the tensor permeability, E and H fields inside the ferrite are expanded in terms of the LSE and LSM eigenmodes of the dielectric-slab-loaded waveguide. The equivalent coupled transmission line equations on the transverse plane are derived to obtain the dispersion characteristics and the E and H field distributions. Numerical results at X-band are compared with those published previously. The derived field distributions can be used to suppress the higher order modes of the latching phase shifters, so that the phase shift from the dominant mode only contributes the performance of the phase shifters.

The partial differential equations for a coil spring derived from Timoshenko beam theory and Frenet formulae. Dynamic stiffness matrix of a coil spring composed of a circular wire is assembled by using dispersion relationship, waves and natural frequencies. Natural frequencies are obtained from maxima in the determinant of inverse of a dynamic stiffness matrix with appropriate boundary conditions. The results of the dynamic stiffness method are compared with those of transfer matrix method, finite element method and test.

Bioremediation of trace metals in groundwater may require the manipulation of redox conditions via the injection of a carbon source. To simulate the numerous biogeochemical processes that will occur during the bioremediation of trace-metal-contaminated aquifers, a reactive transport model has been developed. The model consists of a set of coupled mass balance equations, accounting for advection, hydrodynamic dispersion, and a kinetic formulation of the biological or chemical transformations affecting an organic substrate, electron acceptors, corresponding reduced species, and trace metal contaminants of interest, uranium in this study. The redox conditions of the domain are characterized by estimating the pE, based on the concentrations of the dominant terminal electron acceptor and its corresponding reduced specie. This pE and the concentrations of relevant species we then used by a modified version of MINTEQA2, which calculates the speciation/sorption and precipitation/dissolution of the species of interest under equilibrium conditions. Kinetics of precipitation/dissolution processes are described as being proportional to the difference between the actual and calculated equilibrium concentration.

A microcapsule water slurry is a latent heat-storage material having a low melting point. In this study, the thermal properties of a microcapsule water slurry are measured. The physical properties of the test microcapsule water slurry, i.e., thermal conductivity, specific heat, latent heat, and density, are measured, and the results are discussed for the temperature region of solid and liquid phases of the dispersion material (paraffin). It is clarified that Eucken's equation can be applied to the estimation of the thermal conductivity of the microcapsule water slurry. Useful correlation equations of the thermal properties of the microcapsule water slurry are proposed in terms of the temperature and concentration ratio of the microcapsule water slurry constituents.
Both tensile and tear properties of short-fiber reinforced Chloroprene rubber have been studied as functions of the fiber aspect ratio and fiber content. Both properties increased when both the fiber aspect ratio and fiber content were increased. The fiber reinforced rubbers exhibited maximum values of these properties at a fiber aspect ratio of about 300. When the fiber aspect ratio exceeds 400, the mechanical properties decreased with the fiber content because of the non-uniform dispersion of fibers. The tensile modulus was compared with the prediction by the Halpin-Tsai equations for randomly oriented cases. A bonding agent was used in the fiber treating process. It was found that the ultimate tensile strength, torque, tearing energy and tensile modulus of the rubbers with treated fibers were much higher than those with untreated ones.

In this study, the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) has been used to analyze the smoke movement and the carbon monoxide concentration distribution, both vertically and longitudinally, in a compartment, based on conservation laws. The Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS) developed by National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) was used for numerical simulations using Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes equations (RANS) model to solve for time-averaged properties. Results show, as a function of time, a detailed distribution of temperature and carbon monoxide concentration changing against the height above the floor and those changes alongside the distance away from the fire source. Fire-induced smoke and toxic gases like CO are more dangerous in a confined space. The result of study may contribute in designing the smoke evacuation system based on the precise tenable condition.

OSKA engine was developed to remove the dense core of injection sprays. The engine uses impinging spray on a small pip, which spray after impinging is broken into smaller drops and disperses into fee space in chamber. In this paper the pip size is analyzed to give more dispersion of spray and fuel vapor. The gas phase is modelled by the Eulerian continuum conservation equations of mass, momentum, energy and fuel vapour fraction. The liquid phase is modelled following the discrete droplet model approach in Lagrangian form, and the droplet wall interaction is modelled as a function of the velocity normal to impaction lands. The droplet distributions, vapor fractions and gas flows are analyzed for various injection pressure cases. Numerical results indicate that the land diameter of 5.6mm has the best performance of spray dynamics and vaporization in the test sizes.
