  • Objectives : This study was conducted to infer the effect of superficies-resolveing herbs by analyzing effect terms which have extracted and refined, based on four temperatures and five tastes. Methods : Firstly, temperatures, tastes and effect terms were extracted from the 27 kinds of superficies-resolving herbs written in Herbology. Then, each effect terms was divided into single meaning term and refined as typical term, using the inclusive effect terms I established. After that, herbs were grouped by tastes and found the effect terms which are mentioned most frequently. Results & Conclusions : All the superficies-resolving herbs can have wind-dispelling effect and superficies-resolving effect, except Bulpleuri Radix. This herb is able to has just the wind-dispelling effect. And it's more appropriate to categorize Bulpleuri Radix to heat-clearing herb group than superficies-resolving herb group, considering its several, distinctly cold characteristics. Some effects are concentrated to wind-cold-dispersing herb group and others to wind-heat-dispersing herb group. Each tastes has its own representative effect group.

After that, herbs were grouped by tastes and found the effect terms which are mentioned most frequently. And it could be supposed to be classified into each herb's new effects based on the relationship between properties and those effect terms. It is also inferred into new tastes from some herbs by analysing the representative effects group of each taste and finding which other tastes can be related to each herb's effect. Result & Conclusion : All the superficies-resolving herbs can have wind-dispelling effect and superficies-resolving effect, except Bulpleuri Radix. And, according to its tastes' representative effect, some of herbs are reasonable to get new effect term. With not so feasible reason, 4 kinds of herbs are supposed to contain all of hot, bitter, and sweet tastes. Also It's needed to study much deeper whether Perillae Herba, Zingiberis Rhizoma Crudus and Elsholtziae Herba are belong to superficies-resolving herb group or to interior-warming or damp-dissolving aromatic herb group.

  • Objectives : This study was planned to help clinical treatment by examining the efficacy and frequency of use of medicines with removing nebula and improving vision action, centering on historical literature. Methods : Chinese literature centered on CNKI published after 2000 and ophthalmic books of the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine Library, regardless of the publication period. Domestic literature was searched using NDSL and OASIS, and literature published after 2000 was referenced. Results : According to traditional medical classics, as medicine with removing nebula and improving vision action, medicine with dispelling wind and clearing heat action accounted for the majority. However, it is desirable to use these medicine in the early stages of the disease. Conclusions : 1. Among the external contacts that induce corneal opacity, the wind-heat pattern was the most common. Among the visceral manifestation patterns that induce corneal opacity, liver or spleen was the most common. Cold-tempered medicine which is dispelling wind, clearing heat and bottling up the liver were most commonly used as therapeutic medicine. 2. As removing nebula and improving vision medicine, Cassiae Semen, Chrysanthmi Flos, Eriocauli Flos, and Buddlejae Flos have been widely used. 3. It has been investigated that removing nebula and improving vision medicine can be effectively used in the early stages of various diseases that cause corneal opacity.

  • Objective: Through the literature on the effect of Scolopendra subspinipes mutilans L. Koch, we are finding out the clinical possibility and revealing the more effective to untractable disease. Method: We investigated the literatures of Oriental Medicine and experimental reports about Scolopendra subspinipes mutilans L. Koch. Results: 1.The taste of Scolopendra subspinipes mutilans L. Koch is hot, wann and toxic, and the effect is dispelling wind, spasmolytic action and detoxication so it has been used for C.V.A, facial palsy, numbness of hands and feet, wounds and arthritis. 2. A toxic constituent of Scolopendra subspinipes mutilans L. Koch is mainly located in the 1st limbs, and we can prevent toxic symptoms, if taken a dosage moderately. 3. The pharmacological action of Scolopendra subspinipes mutilans L. Koch is anti-convulsive action, analgesic action, lowering blood pressure, anti-inflammatory action, anti-tumor action and microbe inhibition. On the study of Scolopendra subspinipes mutilans L. Koch, we thought it is effective to intractable disease, and it may be needed variable studies on toxicity and clinical effects.

  • Objectives : In this study, we aimed to analyze the latest knowledge of pityriasis rosea(PR) through oriental-western medical review on PR. Methods : We searched Pubmed, CNKI, and OASIS to select papers related to the cause, mechanism, diagnosis, classification, treatment, and herbal treatment of PR. Results : The results are as follows. 1. Although the exact cause of PR is not known, it has recently been found that reactivation of latent human herpesvirus-6 and human herpesvirus-7 infection is a possible etiology. Most patients require emollients, antihistamines, topical steroids, and macrolides. Acyclovir, and narrow-band UVB therapy are also used. 2. The cause and mechanism of PR in Chinese and Korean medicine can be mainly summarized as wind-heat, blood heat, and blood deficiency and wind-dryness. Most of the herbal medicine used have the effects of clearing heat, cooling the blood, detoxifying, dispelling wind, relieving itching, nourishing blood, and moistening dryness. Conclusions : In Chinese and Korean medicine, it is necessary to organize the representative prescriptions according to pattern identification, and it is also necessary to study the atypical types of PR and its treatment methods. It is thought that research on oriental and western combination therapy should be continuously conducted, and efforts to develop Korean medicine formulations are needed to revitalize clinical research in Korea.

  • The Radix of Peucedanum japonicum (Umbelliferae) has been used for dispelling wind-damp, headache, chills and wind cold. In order to evaluate to quality of it, the method for the quantitative determination of peujaponiside $(peucedanol\;7-O-{\beta}-D-apiofuranosyl(1{\rightarrow}6)-{\beta}-D-glucopyranoside)$ as standard compound has been developed. Peujaponiside is a major compound of Peucedani Radix. It was analyzed by HPLC using the solvent system of 15% $CH_3CN$. The amount of peujaponiside from Peucedani Radix are in the range 0.14% (n=20).
