  • This paper examined the stability of high-dense dislocation substructures (HDDSs) associated with martensite laths in High Cr steels supposed to be used for FBR, based on a series of dislocation dynamics (DD) simulations. The DD simulations considered interactions of dislocations with impurity atoms and precipitates which substantially stabilize the structure. For simulating the dissociation processes, a point defect model is developed and implemented into a discrete DD code. Wall structure composed of high dense dislocations with and without small precipitates were artificially constructed in a simulation cell, and the stability/instability conditions of the walls were systematically investigated in the light of experimentally observed coarsening behavior of the precipitates, i.e., stress dependency of the coarsening rate and the effect of external stress. The effect of stress-dependent coarsening of the precipitates together with application of external stress on the subsequent behavior of initially stabilized dislocation structures was examined.

  • It is well known that Fe3Al intermetallic compound shows an anomalous peak of the yield strength at about 50$0^{\circ}C$ and then decrease at higher temperatures The dislocation structure was examined by transmission electron microscopy and high temperatures. The dislocation structure was examined by transmission electron microscopy and high temperature mechanical properties were examined by tensile and load relaxation tests. The flow stress curves obtained from load relaxation tests were then analyzed in terms of internal variable deformation theory. it was found that the flow curves consisted of three micro-deformation mechanisms -i. e inelastic deformation mode plastic deformation mode and dislocation creep deformation mode depending on both dislocation structure and deformation temperature. The flow curves could be well described by the constitutive equations of these three micro-deformation mechanisms based on the internal variable deformation theory.

  • The effect of misfit on the indentation behaviour of silver coated copper multilayer was studied by molecular dynamics simulation. It was found that the misfit bands on interface formed by the mismatch of lattice structure between copper and silver in slip direction [110] and the dislocation band width depended on the mismatched lattice constants of materials. More dislocations were created and glided by indentation, which created a "four-wing flower" structure consisting of pile. up of dislocation at the interface. The size of "flower" depended on the thickness of silver layer. The critical thickness for "flower" was approximately 4nm above which the "flower" disappeared. As the result, deformation mechanisms such as dislocation pile-up, dislocation cross-slip and movement of misfit dislocation were revealed. Only silver atoms in the dislocation pile-up were involved in the creation of the "flower" while the dislocations in copper were glided in slip direction on interface.

  • Interfacial atomic structure (chemical structure) of a Pd/ZnO hetero junction was investigated by atomic resolution high voltage transmission electron microscopy (ARHVTEM). A misfit dislocation did not work as a stress accommodation mechanism in the ZnO(0001)/Pd (111) interface. But the periodic stress localization occurred in the ZnO($10\bar{1}0$)/(200) interface. The periodicity of the local strain coincided with that of misfit dislocation. Atomic structure image of the ARHVTEM showed that an atomic arrangement across the interface was in the order of O-Zn-Pd. It was shown that mechanical weakness of the ZnO(0001)/Pd(111) interface against cyclic heating is attributable to the absence of the periodic stress localization of the misfit dislocation.

  • In the present study, the microscopic degradation of copper and copper alloy subjected to cyclic deformation has been evaluated by the electrical resistivity measurement using the DC four terminal potential method. The copper (Cu) and copper alloy (Cu-35Zn), whose stacking fault energy is much different each other, were cyclically deformed to investigate the response of the electrical resistivity to different dislocation substructures. Dislocation cell substructure was developed in the Cu, while the planar array of dislocation structure was developed in the Cu-35Zn alloy increasing dislocation density with fatigue cycles. The electrical resistivity increased rapidly in the initial stage of fatigue deformation in both materials. Moreover, after the fatigue test it increased by about 7 % for the Cu and 6.5 % for the Cu-35Zn alloy, respectively. From these consistent results, it may be concluded that the dislocation cell structure responds to the electrical resistivity more sensitively than the planar array dislocation structure evolved during cyclic fatigue.

  • The mobility and diffusivity in an edge dislocation in an FCC crystal formed by the removal of one half of a (100) plane were evaluated in an applied field by analyzing a vacancy tight binding model using Stark's matrix technique. A model of an edge dislocation in an FCC crystal was constructed for a [100] Burgers vector where vacancy transport along the edge dislocation in an FCC crystal was constructed for a [100] Burgers vector where vacancy transport along the edge of the extrac half plane of ions was considered. The model considered a tight binding approximation of the vacancy to the compressed region of the core and carried the calculation to the limit of an infinite length of dislocation. The diffusivity and the ratio of mobility to diffusivity were found to increase without bounds in the limit where the correlation factor becomes zero. In contrast, as the correlation factor became unity, the diffusivity became zero and the ratio of mobility to diffusivity became unity associated with the uncorrelated limit of 1/kT. This implied that the phenomenon was not unique to the crystal structure but was unique to edge dislocations with vacancy tight binding.

  • The defect structure in LiNbO3 single crystals grown by Czochralski method from the congruently melting composition were investigated. Chemical etching patterns were studied in x-plane, z-plane, and major cleavage plane, respectively, dislocation density was higher at the periphery of crystals than at the center because the thermal stress due to radial temperature gradient had a main effect on it, as compared with dislocations formed from the solid-liquid interface. Many dislocation lineages were arranged along several directions.

  • Irreducible traumatic knee dislocation is rare. The knee dislocation is classified depending on the incarcerated structures. Complete reduction is achieved by extracting the incarcerated structure. Several reports introduce the reduction of irreducible traumatic knee dislocation by open surgery or arthroscopy. This case describes irreducible posterolateral knee dislocation with interposition of the vastus medialis. Closed reduction failed in the emergency room, and complete reduction was attained by arthroscopically sectioning the muscle and fascia of the vastus medialis in the intercondylar notch.

  • The alternating current (AC) conductivity in semiconductor crystals with an open-core screw dislocation is studied in the current work. The screw dislocation in crystalline media results in an effective potential field which affects the electronic transport properties of the system. Therefore, from a technological view point, it is interesting to investigate properties of AC conductivity at frequencies of a few terahertz. To quantify the screw-induced potential effect, we calculated the AC conductivity of dislocated crystals using the Kubo formula. The conductivity showed peaks within the terahertz frequency region, where the amplitude of the AC conductivity was large enough to be measured in experiments. The measurable conductivity peaks did not arise in dislocation-free crystals threaded by a magnetic flux tube. These results imply different conductivity mechanisms in crystals with a screw dislocation than those threaded by a magnetic flux tube, despite the apparent similarity in their electronic eigenstates.

  • Reasonable estimates of tunnel lining dislocations in the operation stage, especially under longitudinal differential settlement, are important for the design of waterproof gaskets. In this paper, a modified shell-joint model is proposed to calculate shield tunnel dislocations under longitudinal differential settlement, with the ability to consider the nonlinear shear stiffness of the joint. In the case of shell elements in the model, an elastoplastic damage constitutive model was adopted to describe the nonlinear stress-strain relationship of concrete. After verifying its applicability and correctness against a full-scale tunnel test and a joint shear test, the proposed model was used to analyze the dislocation behaviors of a shield tunnel in Shanghai Metro Line 2 under longitudinal differential settlement. Based on the results, when the tunnel structure is solely subjected to water-earth load, circumferential and longitudinal joint dislocations are all less than 0.1 mm. When the tunnel suffers longitudinal differential settlement and the curvature radius of the differential settlement is less than 300 m, although maximum longitudinal joint dislocation is still less than 0.1 mm, the maximum circumferential joint dislocation is approximately 10.3 mm, which leads to leakage and damage of the tunnel structure. However, with concavo-convex tenons applied to circumferential joints, the maximum dislocation value reduces to 4.5 mm.
