  • To research the trends of study about gastrointestinal (GI) disease in Korean medicine, we reviewed and analysed articles published in Korea from 2009 to 2012. From ancient to modern history, traditional plant-based medicines have played an important role in health care, especially GI tract. In spite of the great advances of moderm scientific medicine, traditional medicine is still the primary form of healing methods readily available to the majority of the people in the many countries. In fact many of today's popular drugs have their origins in traditional medicine. Therefore, we suggest that the development and improvement of Korean medicine in GI tract will make good the quality of life in our lifetime.

  • Objective : The syndrome of daeseunggitang(大承氣湯證) and the syndrome of soseunggitang(小承氣湯證) are different from pathogenesis of the dry stool(燥屎). Due to the lack of body fluid the syndrome of soseunggitang(小承氣湯證)'s dry stool occurs. However, Soseunggitang(小承氣湯) does not have the appropriate remedy. So I will propose a suitable remedy and I suggest it will be available for disease. Method : Study on the syndrome of soseunggitang in Sanghanlon(傷寒論). Result : The syndrome of soseunggitang and Soseunggitang are not corresponded with each other. The treatment of promoting production of body fluid to relax bowels is necessary for the syndrome of Soseunggitang. Conclusion : Through the analysis, I have the following conclusions. Jeungaegseunggitang(增液承氣湯) is more suitable for the syndrome of soseunggitang. Soseunggitang is suitable for disease accompanied by interior heat and dampness.

  • Malignant catarrhal fever (MCF) is a systemic disease of ruminants caused by a gamma herpesvirus, ovine herpesvirus 2 (OvHV-2). Four 1-year old goats (Capra hircus), which were infected with MCF virus, OvHV-2, by being housed together with MCF virus-infected seep, were referred with a I-month history of chronic dermatitis. On the other hand, MCF virus-negative goats, which were isolated for negative control, had not those kinds of skin problems. Examination of the affected goats revealed generalized alopecia, patchy erythema, and superficial erosions with histologic evidence of mural folliculitis. Fungal culture tests and external parasite tests with the scraping skin samples were negative. However, polymerase chain reaction revealed the existence of MCF virus DNAs in the lesion. These results suggested that MCF virus may induce mural folliculitis and alopecia in goat.
