Recently ultrasound and scintigraphic study are most useful modality for diagnosis of scrotal diseases. They are able to determine the nature, anatomic extent of the lesion, and possible to differential diagnosis of the scrotal lesion. The ultrasound and scintigraphic findings were analyses in 59 patients of confirmed scrotal disease at Seoul Red Cross Hospital from June 1986 to Aug. 1989. The results were as follows. 1) Most patients were below the 30 years old age (69.4%), and most prevalent age was $11\sim30$ Yrs. in trauma, $31\sim40$ Yrs. in inflammation, and $51\sim60$ Yrs. in mass lesion of scrotum. 2) The diagnostic accuracy of scrotal disease was 94.9% in ultrasound and 72% in scintigraphic study. The ultrasound study showed high accuracy in all kind of scrotat disease, but scintigraphy showed only high detection rate in inflammatory disease. 3) Scrotal ultrasound is first choice of study for the diagnosis of scrotal lesion, and useful determine the cystic or solid lesion and anatomic extent of disease. However it can't be differentiate the acute epididymitis with acute testicular torsion. 4) Scrotal scintigraphy is useful study for the diagnosis of acute painful scrotal disease, and showed specific findings in acute epididymitis and acute torsion for differential diagnosis. 5) In consideration of age, history and clinical findings of patient, appropriate study will be chosen firstly in ultrasound and scintigraphy, and combined all of findings of these studies will be helpful for the accurate diagnosis and adequate treatment of scrotal disease.
This study was conducted to empirically analyze the prevalence and risk of chronic diseases in the family history of chronic diseases using data from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2019. Based on 5,691 people, after controlling for socio-demographic variables that were related to family history of chronic diseases, logistic regression analysis was performed to verify the odds ratio, which was the risk of family history of chronic diseases for the prevalence of chronic diseases. The main results were founded that Odds ratio, which was the risk of chronic diseases in groups with a family history compared to those without a family history, was statistically significant at hypertension(2.623), dyslipidemia(1.868), diabetes(1.964), and arthritis(1.435) when gender, age, income status, education level and residence were controlled. These results suggest that it is not only necessary to develop a standardization tool for family history tests, but also a health and disease management system for members with a family history in terms of preventive medicine in health care. This study is significant in that it proposed a practical plan in terms of health care by controlling variables that affect the prevalence of chronic diseases and empirically identifying the risk of family history of chronic diseases.

Incidence of leaf blast on nursery plants and pitting disease on maturing banana bunches has been recorded in banana plantations during rainy season in Eastern India during 2014 to 2015. Taxonomical identification as well as DNA sequence analysis of the internal transcribed spacer region of fungus isolated from affected tissue culture derived plantlets and fruits confirmed the pathogen to be Pyricularia angulata Hashioka "in both the cases". Koch's postulates were proved on young plantlets as well as on maturing fruits of cv. Grand Naine under simulated conditions. Evolutionary history was inferred and presented for our P. angulata strain PG9001 with GenBank accession no. KU984740. The analysis indicated that the P. angulata is phylogenitically distinct from other related species related to both Pyricularia and Magnaporthe. Detailed symptoms of blast lesions on young leaves, transition leaves, mid rib, petioles, peduncle, maturing bunches, bunch stalks and cushions were documented. Notably, the distinct small pitting spots on maturing bunches reduced the visual appeal of mature fruits. Appearance of pitting symptoms on fruits in relation with age of fruits and their distribution pattern on bunch and fingers was also documented in detail. Further, the roles of transitory leaves, weed hosts, seasonality on disease occurrence have also been documented.
Kohler's disease is an uncommon idiopathic osteochondrosis of the tarsal navicular. The diagnosis is clinical and the natural history is benign. The treatment is symptomatic, including shoe supports when the symptoms are mild and initial cast immobilization for at least 8 weeks when the symptoms are more intensive. The final clinical outcome is always favorable. Although it has been fully described both clinically and radiologically, There have been a few long-term follow-up reports in worldwide. This case report presents a Kohler's disease of the tarsal navicular with long-term follow-up of 12 years.
From July 1983 to December 1992, 145 patients with mitral valvular disease underwent open heart surgery at Chonbuk National University Hospital. Of these patients, 89 patients[61.4%] required mitral valve replacement. 56 patients [38.6 %] had mitral valve repair. There were 32 women and 24 men and the mean age was 34.3 years[range 6 years to 62 years].There were 23 cases of pure mitral stenosis, 19 cases of mitral regurgitation and 14 cases of mixedmitral valvular disease. The mean duration of symptom was 4.53 years and mean mitral valvularorifice diameter[in cases of pure stenosis and mixed mitral valvular lesion] was 0.96 cm. According to the NYHA classification, the distribution of patients preoperatively was as follows; class IIa, 15 patients; class lib, 17 patients; class III, 22 patients; class IV, 2 patients. Four patients[7%] had an embolic history preoperatively. 24 patients[ 43 %] were in atrial fibrillation. In cases of pure mitral stenosis, the technique used included open mitral commissurotomy[21atients], open mitral commissurotomy with mitral annuloplasty[2 patients]. In mixed mitral valvular disease, open mitral commissurotomy[ll patients] and open mitral commissurotomy with mitral annuloplasty[l patient] were performed. In cases of mitral regurgitation, mitral annuloplasty[5 patients], mitral valvuloplasty[6 patients], mitral annuloplasty with valvuloplasty [3 patients] and ring annuloplasty [5 patients] were performed. There was one perioperative death related to acute renal failure and sepsis. One late death was occurred related to heart failure after 10 months postoperatively. One patient required reoperation due to restenosis and no embolic episode was occured. After operation, 34 patients were in NYHA functional class I, 20 patients were in class IIa.
Kawasaki disease (KD), an acute vasculitis that primarily affects young children, is the most common acquired paediatric cardiovascular disease in developed countries. While sequelae of arterial inflammation in the acute phase of KD are well documented, its late effects on vascular health are increasingly unveiled. Late vascular dysfunction is characterized by structural alterations and functional impairment in term of arterial stiffening and endothelial dysfunction and shown to involve both coronary and systemic arteries. Further evidence suggests that continuous low grade inflammation and ongoing active remodeling of coronary arterial lesions occur late after acute illness and may play a role in structural and functional alterations of the arteries. Potential importance of genetic modulation on vascular health late after KD is implicated by associations between mannose binding lectin and inflammatory gene polymorphisms with severity of peripheral arterial stiffening and carotid intima-media thickening. The changes in cholesterol and lipoproteins levels late after KD further appear similar to those proposed to be atherogenic. While data on adverse vascular health are less controversial in patients with persistent or regressed coronary arterial aneurysms, data appear conflicting in individuals with no coronary arterial involvements or only transient coronary ectasia. Notwithstanding, concerns have been raised with regard to predisposition of KD in childhood to accelerated atherosclerosis in adulthood. Until further evidence-based data are available, however, it remains important to assess and monitor cardiovascular risk factors and to promote cardiovascular health in children with a history of KD in the long term.
Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disorder in which neuronal loss causes cognitive decline and other neuropsychiatric problems. It can be diagnosed based on history, examination, and appropriate objective assessments, using standard criteria such as the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders or the National Institute of Neurological and Communicative Disorders and Stroke and the Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders Association (NINCDS-ADRDA). Brain imaging and biomarkers are making progress in the differential diagnoses among the different disorders. The cholinesterase inhibitors, donepezil, rivastigmine and galantamine and N-methyl-D-aspartate receptors antagonist memantine are approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for AD. Recently some acetylcholinesterase inhibitors gained approval for the treatment of severe AD and became available in a higher dose formulation or a patch formulation. Optimal care in AD is multifactorial and it should include early diagnosis and multidisciplinary care with pharmacological and nonpharmacological interventions including exercise interventions, cognitive interventions and maintenance of social networks.
Among the main intimidation to the sheep and goat population, PPR outbreaks are causing huge losses especially in endemic areas. During recent times, six outbreaks of PPR were confirmed at semi-organized goat farms/herds in various regions of Punjab province and Islamabad capital territory (ICT), Pakistan. The disease started after introduction of new animals at these farms with no history of previous PPR vaccination. The clinical signs appeared affecting respiratory and enteric systems and spread quickly. Disease caused mortality of 10-20% and morbidity of 20-40% within a time period of four weeks. Morbidity and mortality rates were 30.38% (86/283) and 15.55% (44/283), respectively. Three treatment regimes were executed to demonstrate the role of vaccination during outbreak at these farms. First was to use only the broad spectrum antibiotics (Penicillin & Streptomycin and/or Trimethoprim and Sulfadiazine) at two farms (Texilla and Attock). Second treatment regime was to use the same broad spectrum antibiotic along with extensive fluid therapy (Farms at ICT-1 and ICT-2). The third regime was to use of broad spectrum antibiotic plus fluid therapy along with vaccinating the herd against PPR during first week of outbreak (ICT-3 and ICT-4). The third scheme of treatment gave the better results as there was no mortality in third week post-outbreak. Therefore, it is suggested to give proper importance to PPR vaccination along with conventional symptomatic treatment when dealing the PPR outbreaks in endemic disease conditions.
Objectives : This study aims at exposing interaction between socio-cultural influence on medicine, and the strong quest for rational explanation concerning the evil-spirit(鬼邪) related disease, namely Sasu(邪祟), in medical history. Methods : In order to apprehend the change of perception, Chinese medical classics referring directly to Sasu(邪祟), as well as Korean medical classics from Joseon dynasty were reviewed. Results : In Chinese medical texts, discriminating pseudo-sasu(類似邪祟) from evil-spirit related sasu had been one of the main concerns. And Chinese were more inclined to specify treatment plan for pseudo-sasu than handling evil spirits. On the contrary, Korean medical texts show common interests in eliminating evil spirits throughout Joseon dynasty. Conclusions : Since medicine is under the influence of socio-cultural condition, it cannot escape from the epistemology of corresponding society. Evil-spirit related disease therefore could remain within the sphere of medical discussion until very recently. If we observe the disease under the frame of culture, we not only can obtain broader view on dynamic nature of medical conceptions, but also gain better insight to understand medical classics.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify effects of family support and quality of life on smoking cessation in patients with coronary artery disease. Method: Data were collected using a self-reported questionnaire included smoking history, family support and quality of life (QOL). The participants were 159 male patient with coronary artery disease who were current smokers or ex-smokers. A logistic model was developed to estimate the likelihood of current smoker or ex-smoker. Results: Of the participants, 28.3% were current smokers and 71.7% were ex-smokers. The mean score for family support was 27.41 for positive support and 23.11 for negative support. The mean score for QOL was 50.48. There were significant differences in QOL according to smoking status. The predictors of smoking cessation were social interaction QOL and self-control QOL, and duration of smoking. The model correctly classified 89.5% of ex-smokers and 44.4% of current smokers and the correct classification for the total was 76.8%. Conclusion: Social interaction QOL, self-control QOL and duration of smoking were significant variables in prediction of smoking cessation. QOL should be considered in developing smoking cessation interventions. It is advisable to also examine the mediating effect of family support on quality of life.
