Research on Sustainable Financial Inclusion and Social Impact : Analyzing Credit Thin Filer Data from U.S. Online Loan Platform (지속가능한 금융포용성과 소셜임팩트 증진 제언 연구: 미국 온라인 대출 플랫폼 내 중저신용자 데이터를 중심으로)

  • This study analyses customer data from a US online lending platform to empirically document the discriminatory treatment that low- and middle-income borrowers face in financial markets. Researchers are using financial data from nearly 2.93 million loans between 2007~2020 of the Lending Club on the open-source Kaggle platform. We find that thin-filers borrowers, especially those with lower credit scores, receive loans at higher interest rates. This discriminatory treatment undermines financial inclusion and has the potential to increase social inequality. The significance of this research is that it sheds substantial light on the problem of inequality in financial markets and, based on the findings, suggests concrete measures to ensure equitable access to finance for all customers and enhance sustainable financial inclusion. In doing so, we propose a shift towards enhancing the social responsibility of institutions.

Empirical Study on Relationship Between ex-ante Early Stage Venture Technology Innovation Power and ex-post Firm's Performance (초기 중소벤처의 기술혁신역량과 기업성과의 관계에 관한 연구)

  • The objective of the study is to verify the discriminatory power of technology innovation in predicting Early Stage Ventures' success or failure. To accomplish this objective, we test early stage ventures'(Firm's period is below 3 years)technology innovation and performance. The result of the study is expected to be useful in loan evaluation, investment decision, internal management decision making and business improvement. The results of study is as follows. First, Early Stage Ventures' technology innovation power is composed of 4 major indexes(technology, marketability, manufacturing infra and economic feasibility). Second, we find that thirty-seven minor indexes are significant ex-ante variable which are discriminating between firms' success and failure in Early Stage Ventures. Also thirty-seven minor indexes explain 57.2% of the total variance. This explainable power of these indexes is similar to that of the existing 58 index elements. Finally, we find that the most important technology innovation power of Early Stage Ventures' is economic feasibility.

Segmentation of Cooperatives' Mutuality Bank for Effective Risk Management using Factor Analysis and Cluster Analysis

  • Since cooperatives consist of many distinct members in the management environment and characteristics, it is necessary to make similar cooperatives into a few groups for the effective risk management of cooperatives' mutuality bank. This paper is a priori research for suggesting a guidance for effective risk management of cooperatives with different management strategy. For such purpose, we propose a way to group the members of cooperative's mutuality bank. The 30 continuous variables which is relative to cooperatives' management status are considered and six factors are extracted from those variables through factor analysis with empirical consideration to avoid wrong grouping and to enhance the practical interpretation. Based on extracted six factors and additional 3 categorical variables, six representative groups are derived by the two step clustering analysis. These findings are useful to execute a discriminatory risk management and other management strategy for a mutuality bank and others.

  • The high-dimensionality and insufficiency of gene expression profiles and proteomic profiles makes feature selection become a critical step in efficiently building accurate models for cancer problems based on such data sets. In this paper, we use a method, called Discrete Function Learning algorithm, to find discriminatory feature vectors based on information theory. The target feature vectors contain all or most information (in terms of entropy) of the class attribute. Two data sets are selected to validate our approach, one leukemia subtype gene expression data set and one ovarian cancer proteomic data set. The experimental results show that the our method generalizes well when applied to these insufficient and high-dimensional data sets. Furthermore, the obtained classifiers are highly understandable and accurate.

  • The systems engineering (SE) process shall be applied to the project for successful development of ultra-high-speed (UHS) Maglev train system which is one of very large and complex systems. It is important to abolish technology differentials from the advanced developers such as Germany, Japan, etc. and to ensure discriminatory competitiveness of the application of systems engineering process for the development of the system based on appropriate concepts and requirements. General operation concept and stakeholder's requirements of UHS Maglev train system must be elicited with system concept for initiating the project. The management plan should be devised for all sorts of systems engineering activities of risk management, performance management, lifecycle cost management, etc. This paper would support to establish the systems engineering management plan (SEMP) for the program of UHS Maglev train system development with associated documents.

An Empirical Study on extracting significant technology valuation index of IT SMES (IT중소벤처 유의적 기술평가항목추출에 관한 실증연구)

  • The objective of the study is to verify the discriminatory power of valuation indexes in predicting IT small and medium sized manufacturing firms' going concern or firms' failure. The result of the study is expected to be useful in loan evaluation, investment decision, internal management decision making and business improvement. The results of study is as follows. First, we find that at least six valuation index elements are significant ex-ante variable which are discriminating between firms' going concern and firms' failure in IT small and medium sized manufacturing firms in various analysis' results. Second, these index elements are composed of 2 indexes-the ability of technology R&D, the efficient strategy of market penetration and six index elements explain 46% of the total variance. This explainable power of these indexed is similar to that of the existing 16 index elements. Finally, we find that the most important success factor of IT small and medium sized manufacturing firms are the ability of technology R&D and the efficient strategy of market penetration.

  • The government expands its investment on R&D programs for economic growth, thus there is growing attention on the result of R&D Programs. This study proposes more improved measuring method for efficiency when the number of R&D programs is not enough to be for measuring efficiency analysis. It provides more various application method of factors on efficiency analysis. This study analyzes the influence of each input factor on efficiency by using partial efficiency concept. And it also determines input factors in similar influence throughout Spearman correlation coefficient. Finally, it suggests new method to improve discriminatory power of efficiency analysis by determining representative factors. Also, the proposed method can be practiced not only for national R&D programs, but also for other fields of research.

Measuring Firms' R&D Performance: an exploratory study on sectoral differences in R&D performance (기업의 R&D 성과 측정 : 산업간 차이에 대한 탐색적 연구)

  • An efficient and productive R&D operation is a major source of competitive advantage in today's economy, and a lot of efforts are made to raise R&D productivity. A prerequisite for making R&D more efficient and productive is to be able to measure it. Hence, a number of studies have attempted to measure R&D productivity. R&D productivity, in the previous studies, was measured with patents at the firm or industry level. However, most previous studies considered only a quantitative aspect, not a quantitative aspect of patents. In this study, various dimensions of patent quality as well as patent quantity were considered for the measurement of R&D performance. The differences in R&D performance across sectors were examined, and it was found that electrical/electronic industry shows higher R&D performance than mechanic and chemical industries. Discriminant analysis based on inputs and outputs for R&D shows' that there exist a strong discriminatory power across industries. The results of this research can provide the directions 'for the firm's R&D policy.

  • The electric utility industry around the world is undergoing a revolutionary transition from vertically integrated monopoly structures to a competitive structures. Competition in an open transmission access(OTA) makes the market participants access easily the transmission system in a non-discriminatory and equitable manner. The competitions of suppliers and customers make the electric market price change every hour. This paper presents a web program in the internet environment with a function of optimal power flow(OPF) calculation. The Web program gives the nodal marginal cost and the congestion charge using the shadow prices resulted from OPF. This web program is realized by a Perl and JAVA languages, and using the common gateway interface(CGI).

Discrimination of Listeria monocytogenes by Sequence Typing Based on Two Housekeeping Genes and Its Comparison to PFGE Patterns

  • Two housekeeping genes, of Listeria monocytogenes dat and hlyA, were analyzed in a set of 28 isolates from different sources to estimate their genetic diversities. These strains were previously characterized by pulsed-field gel electrophoresis. Complete gene sequences for dat (465 bp) and hlyA (584 bp) had sequence similarity of $99.87-100\%$ S and $99.96-100\%$ S among isolates, respectively. Also, we found that the numbers of sequence types (ST) were about 3-fold less than those of PFGE types (3 STs versus 11 PFGE types). There was, however, a good correlation between the PFGE patterns and phylogenetic grouping of two gene sequences among the isolates. Further studies on analyzing additional loci would increase the discriminatory power of sequence typing for L. monocytogenes strains.
