A Novel Algorithm for Discrimination of Voiced Sounds (유성음 구간 검출 알고리즘에 관한 연구)

  • A simple algorithm for discriminating voiced sounds in a speech is proposed. In addition to low-frequency energy and zero-crossing rate (ZCR), both of which have been widely used in the past for identifying voiced sounds, the proposed algorithm incorporates pitch variation to improve the discrimination rate. Based on TIMIT corpus, evaluation result shows an improvement of 13% in the discrimination of voiced phonemes over that of the traditional algorithm using only energy and ZCR.

Discrimination of Cancer Cell by Fuzzy Logic in Medical Images

  • A new method of digital image analysis technique for medical images of cancer cell is presented. This paper deals with the cancer cell discrimination. The object images were the Thyroid Gland cell images that were diagnosed as normal and abnormal. This paper proposes a new discrimination method based on fuzzy logic algorithm. The focus of this paper is an automatic discrimination of cells into normal and abnormal of medical images by dominant feature parameters method with fuzzy algorithm. As a consequence of using fuzzy logic algorithm, the nucleus were successfully diagnosed as normal and abnormal. As for the experimental result, average recognition rate of 64.66% was obtained by applying single parameter of 16 feature parameters at a time. The discrimination rate of 93.08% was obtained by proposed method.

Discriminant Analysis of Cigarette Brands by Nearinfrared Spectroscopy (근적외선 분광법을 이용한 제품담배 판별 연구)

  • This experiment was conducted to investigate the discrimination of cigarette brands and the similarity between Korea and America cigarette brands by near infrared spectra. Statistical tools such as principal component analysis (PCA) and mahalanobis distance(M.D) were used. The discrimination rate of the Korea and the America cigarette brands, determined by position number which was calculated with PCA and M.D, was 94% and 87%, respectively. The spectra of the 10 America cigarette brands were selected by averaging 5 sample spectra for each brand and another 5 spectra for each brand were investigated to use as the sample spectra. Comparing the sample spectra with the selected spectra by M.D using 410-1090 nm, 1110-1850 nm and 1970-2490 nm wavelength, the discrimination rate which was determined by the closest M.D between the sample and the selected spectra was 100% when each spectra was investigated on the same time. But the discrimination rate decreased 50% when the sample and the selected spectra were investigated on the different time. Excluding 1970-2490 nm wavelength, the discrimination rate increased up to 90% when the sample and the selected spectra were investigated on the different time. Comparing the spectra of Korea cigarette brands with those of America cigarette brands by M.D using only 410-1090 nm and 1110-1850 nm wavelength, the spectra of Expo(G) was similar to Winston, Vantage(U.L) and Benson & hedges(M.), the spectra of Hanaro(D) was similar to Carrel, Winston(L), Vantage(U.L), \Vantage and Carrel(L), the spectra of Hanaro(L) was similar to Winston(L) , Carton, Vantage and Carmel(L) and the spectra of Pinetree was similar to Kent, Kool, Kent(G.L), Merit and Benson & hedges(L), respectively. Speech and Music Discrimination Using Spectral Transition Rate (주파수 변화율을 이용한 음성과 음악의 구분)

  • In this paper, we propose the spectral transition rate (STR) as a novel feature for speech and music discrimination (SMD). We observed that the spectral peaks of speech signal are gradually changing due to coarticulation effect. However, the sound of musical instruments in general tends to keep the peak frequencies and energies unchanged for relatively long period of time compared to speech. The STR of speech is much higher than that of music. The experimental results show that the STR based SMD method outperforms a conventional method. Especially, the STR based SMD gives relatively fast output without any performance degradation.

The Potential Cost-Benefit Analysis on the Disability Discrimination Act in Korea (장애인차별금지법의 잠재적 비용-편익 분석: 고용영역을 중심으로)

  • This study was attempted to give aids in making 'the Disability Discrimination Act' by estimating the potential Cost-Benefit in case that the discrimination on the disabled is removed. The potential benefits from this Disability Discrimination Act are calculated considering the income increase of the people with disabilities from additional employment for them and the decrease of employment levies and the public assistance benefits. The potential cost was made focusing on the following 2 expenses- the extra expenditures that the owners of companies had to invest from the employment of the disabled and the managing expenses for correcting discrimination organizations. As the result of this estimation, the potential net present value under the 7% discount rate is very high as 12,700,301 million won and the cost-benefit ratio is also great as 96.8. The consequence of the sensitive analysis in changing the discount rate also does not have great changes. As the result of these estimating results, it is known that when the discrimination is solved by the 'Disability Discrimination Act', the pure benefit of our society will become tremendous. After all, it could be said that the need for 'the Disability Discrimination Act' is emphasized and should be emphasized.

Development of a System for Recognizing Stamp Images (도장영상 인식 시스템의 개발)

  • In eastern countries stamps have been used more commonly than signatures when approving contracts and documents. Unlike finger prints, stamp images do not share similar patterns to each other and the resolution of stamp images is determined by the input status such as pressure under which stamps are put. This paper discusses the development of a system for recognizing stamp images of Korean or Chinese characters. Recognition of stamp images consists of several steps: acquisition of stamp images from an input device, digitization, contrast stretching, noise removal, and matching. We tested the system on 50 stamp images (20 stamp images of Korean characters, 20 images of Chinese characters, and 10 similar images). There was little difference in discrimination rate between the stamp images of Korean character and those of Chinese characters. 46 stamps images out of 50 were successfully recognized, resulting in 92% discrimination rate. Orientation and pressure under which stamps are put played an important role in determining discrimination rate. Automated stamp image recognition can be made more practical and useful by extending the types of stamp images to ellipses and rectangles and by improving the discrimination rate.

  • In this paper we analyse the effects of Bayesian algorithm in teaming class imbalance problems and compare the performance evaluation methods. The teaming performance of the Bayesian algorithm is evaluated over the class imbalance problems generated by priori data distribution, imbalance data rate and discrimination complexity. The experimental results are calculated by the AUC(Area Under the Curve) values of both ROC(Receiver Operator Characteristic) and PR(Precision-Recall) evaluation measures and compared according to imbalance data rate and discrimination complexity. In comparison and analysis, the Bayesian algorithm suffers from the imbalance rate, as the same result in the reported researches, and the data overlapping caused by discrimination complexity is the another factor that hampers the learning performance. As the discrimination complexity and class imbalance rate of the problems increase, the learning performance of the AUC of a PR measure is much more variant than that of the AUC of a ROC measure. But the performances of both measures are similar with the low discrimination complexity and class imbalance rate of the problems. The experimental results show 4hat the AUC of a PR measure is more proper in evaluating the learning of class imbalance problem and furthermore gets the benefit in designing the optimal learning model considering a misclassification cost.

Perceived Discrimination and Workplace Violence among School Health Teachers: Relationship with School Organizational Climate

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship of the school organizational climate with perceived discrimination and the workplace violence among school health teachers. Methods: The research design was a cross-sectional study. The subjects of the study were 350 school health teachers with more than one year of teaching experience. Data were collected online using a questionnaire. Research variables are general characteristics, organizational climate, perceived discrimination, and workplace violence. The relationship between organizational climate and perceived discrimination and the relationship between organizational climate and workplace violence were analyzed using regression analysis. Results: The score for organizational climate of health teachers was 3.10 out of 5 points, the score for perceived discrimination was 2.85 out of 5 points, and the experience rate of workplace violence was 16.9%. School organizational climate was related to both workplace violence and perceived discrimination. The subcomponents of organizational climate affecting perceived discrimination of health teachers were interrelationship and the level of compensation. The subcomponents of organizational climate affecting workplace violence of health teachers were interrelationship and autonomy. Conclusion: The improvement of the school's organizational climate can reduce the level of workplace violence and discrimination against health teachers. It is important to establish an appropriate evaluation system for health teachers and to recognize the role and expertise of health teachers. In addition, it is necessary for school administraters to actively support health teahcers and to create an organizational climate where they can be friendly and communicative.

  • In this paper, the implementation of a voiced/unvoiced/silence discrimination system is presented. The algorithm is based on the zerocrossing rate and the spectral energy distribution of speech. In measuring zerocrossing rate, a new frequency-to-voltage conversion type interval filter is used. Expermental results show that with the proposed algorithm the effect of impulse noise in voiced intervals can be removed.
