  • In this paper, we apply finite element Galerkin method to a single-ohase linear Stefan problem with a forcing term. We apply the extrapolated Crank-Nicolson method to construct the fully discrete approximation and we derive optimal error estimates in the temporal direction in $L^2$, $H^1$ spaces.

  • Based on Landau-type transformation, a Stefan problem with non-linear free boundary condition is transformed into a system consisting of parabolic equation and the ordinary differential equations. Semidiscrete approximations are constructed. Optimal orders of convergence of semidiscrete approximation in $L_2$, $H^1$ and $H^2$ normed spaces are derived.

  • We prove that a maximal ideal M of D[x] has two generators and is of the form where p is an irreducible element in a PID D having infinitely many nonassociate irreducible elements and q(x) is an irreducible non-constant polynomial in D[x]. Moreover, we find how minimal generators of maximal ideals of a polynomial ring D[x] over a DVR D consist of and how many generators those maximal ideals have.

  • In this paper, we analyze discontinuous Galerkin methods with penalty terms, namly symmetric interior penalty Galerkin methods, to solve nonlinear parabolic equations. We construct finite element spaces on which we develop fully discrete approximations using extrapolated Crank-Nicolson method. We adopt an appropriate elliptic-type projection, which leads to optimal ${\ell}^{\infty}$ ($L^2$) error estimates of discontinuous Galerkin approximations in both spatial direction and temporal direction.

  • To develop galloping suppression devices, it is important to understand the effects of wind turbulence on galloping and to establish an evaluation method which takes 'large conductor deformations' into account. This paper introduces some findings on galloping in gusty wind obtained by numerical simulation using a model based on the Mogami Test Line of the Tokyo Electric Power Co. The equations of motion of the conductor are based on the Lagrangian formulations by Simpson, and they are made discrete in accordance with a finite element method.

  • In this work dynamic heat transfer in a CPFS (cable penetration fire stop) system built in the firewall of nuclear power plants is three-dimensionally investigated to develop a test-simulator that can be used to verify effectiveness of the sealant. Dynamic heat transfer in the fire stop system is formulated in a parabolic PDE (partial differential equation) subjected to a set of initial and boundary conditions. First, the PDE model is divided into two parts; one corresponding to heat transfer in the axial direction and the other corresponding to heat transfer on the vertical planes. The first PDE is converted to a series of ODEs (ordinary differential equations) at finite discrete axial points for applying the numerical method of SOR (successive over-relaxation) to the problem. The ODEs are solved by using an ODE solver In such manner, the axial heat flux can be calculated at least at the finite discrete points. After that, all the planes are separated into finite elements, where the time and spatial functions are assumed to be of orthogonal collocation state at each element. The initial condition of each finite element can be obtained from the above solution. The heat fluxes on the vertical planes are calculated by the Galerkin FEM (finite element method). The CPFS system was modeled, simulated, and analyzed here. The simulation results were illustrated in three-dimensional graphics. Through simulation, it was shown clearly that the temperature distribution was influenced very much by the number, position, and temperature of the cable stream, and that dynamic heat transfer through the cable stream was one of the most dominant factors, and that the feature of heat conduction could be understood as an unsteady-state process.

  • This paper deals with a usefulness verification of stretch forming process using flexible die. The stretch forming method is widely used in aircraft and high-speed train industries for manufacturing of skin structure, which is made of sheet metal. A great number of solid dies are originally used and developed for specific shapes with respect to different curvature radii of the skin structures. Accordingly, flexible stretch forming process is proposed in this study. It replaces the conventional solid dies with a set of height adjustable discrete punches. A usefulness of the flexible die is verified through extensive numerical simulations of the stretch forming process for simply curved sheet plate. The elastic recovery is considered and formability evaluations are conducted through a comparison of symmetry plane configurations.

  • Film Bulk Acoustic Wave Resonator(FBAR) used in microwave region was analyzed with Finite Difference Time-Domain Methods(FDTD) in this paper. FBAR have been analyzed with one dimensional Mason model analysis or Finite Element methods(FEM), but the first couldn't analyze effect of area variation and spurious characteristics, the second had difficulty in element separation because of thin electrode. So in this paper FBAR was analyzed by Finite Difference Time-Domain Methods and it's results were transformed to frequency domain using Discrete Fourier Transform.
