In this paper, variable radix-two multibit coding algorithm is presented and applied in the implementation of discrete cosine transform(DCT) and inverse discrete cosine transform(IDCT). Variable radix-two multibit coding means the 2k SD (signed digit) representation of overlapped multibit scanning with variable shift method. SD represented by 2k generates partial products, which can be easily implemented with shifters and adders. This algorithm is most powerful for the hardware implementation of DCT/IDCT with constant coefficient matrix multiplication. This paper introduces the suggested algorithm, it's proof and the implementation of DCT/IDCT The implemented IDCT chip with 8 PEs(Processing Elements) and one transpose memory runs at a tate of 400 Mpixels/sec at 54MHz frequency for high speed parallel signal processing, and it's verified in HDTV and MPEG decoder.

Core walls for tall building is one of the structures to support lateral load. Since most structural elements used for resisting which ate relatively weak against torsion, it is important to investigate tosional effects in the analysis and design of tall buildings. Rutenberg proposed a more refined theory on the torsional analysis of core walls which can be used when the stiffness of lintel beams are small or large. In this paper a more refined method to analysis the torsion of core wall structures with variable cross sections and being subjected to arbitrarilly distributed load was suggested. To reduce complex and a great number of calculations and to enhance the generality and flexibility of application of this method, the discrete method using transfer matrix formulation was used. Then this method can be easily applied to irregular and variational sections, has no necessity to get particular solution for each of loading conditions, and the maximum size of matrix calculated is $4{\times}4$, which makes this approach more appropriate for design office calculations using comuters of any sizes or even desk calculators.
The coarse mesh finite difference (CMFD) method is applied to the discontinuous finite element method based discrete ordinate calculation for source convergence acceleration. The three-dimensional (3-D) DFEM-Sn code FEDONA is developed for general geometry applications as a framework for the CMFD implementation. Detailed methods for applying the CMFD acceleration are established, such as the method to acquire the coarse mesh flux and current by combining unstructured tetrahedron elements to rectangular coarse mesh geometry, and the alternating calculation method to exchange the updated flux information between the CMFD and DFEM-Sn. The partial current based CMFD (p-CMFD) is also implemented for comparison of the acceleration performance. The modified p-CMFD method is proposed to correct the weakness of the original p-CMFD formulation. The performance of CMFD acceleration is examined first for simple two-dimensional multigroup problems to investigate the effect of the problem and coarse mesh sizes. It is shown that smaller coarse meshes are more effective in the CMFD acceleration and the modified p-CMFD has similar effectiveness as the standard CMFD. The effectiveness of CMFD acceleration is then assessed for three-dimensional benchmark problems such as the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) and C5G7MOX problems. It is demonstrated that a sufficiently converged solution is obtained within 7 outer iterations which would require 175 iterations with the normal DFEM-Sn calculations for the IAEA problem. It is claimed that the CMFD accelerated DFEM-Sn method can be effectively used in the practical eigenvalue calculations involving general geometries.

Dynamic response analysis in time dimain is conducted for floating bridges with discrete pontoons subject to spatial variation of ground motions. The Spatial variation of ground motions is considered with the coherency function model which represents wave passage, incoherence and local site effects. The superstructure of the bridge is represented by space frame and elastic catenary cable elements, the abutment us modelde with the spring element of FHWA guideline for considering soil structure interaction and the concept of retardation function is utilized to consider the frequency dependency of the hydrodynamic coefficients which are obtainde by boundary element method. multiple support excitations considering the spatial variation. The noticeable amplification of the response can be shown when the spatial variation of ground motions is incorporated in the anallysis of floating bridges.
This paper presents a method for designing circular template used in similarity measurement for image registration. Circular template has translation and rotation invariant property, which results in correct matching of control points for image registration under the condition of translation and rotation between reference and sensed images. Circular template consisting of the pixels located on the multiple circumferences of the circles whose radii vary from zero to a certain distance, is converted to two-dimensional Discrete Polar Coordinate Matrix (DPCM), whose elements are the pixels of the circular template. For sensed image, the same type of circular template and DPCM are created by rotating the circular template repeatedly by a certain degree in the range between 0 and 360 degrees and then similarity is calculated using mutual information of the two DPCMs. The best match is determined when the mutual information for each rotation angle at each pixel in search area is maximum. The proposed algorithm was tested using KOMPSAT-2 images acquired at two different times and the results indicate high accurate matching performance under image rotation.
Efficiency is one of the most important factors in cryptographic systems. Cheon et al. proposed a new exponent form for speeding up the exponentiation operation in discrete logarithm based cryptosystems. It is called split exponent with the form $e_1+{\alpha}e_2$ for a fixed element ${\alpha}$ and two elements $e_1$, $e_2$ with low Hamming weight representations. They chose $e_1$, $e_2$ in two unbalanced subsets $S_1$, $S_2$ of $Z_p$, respectively. We achieve efficiency improvement making $S_1$, $S_2$ balanced subsets of $Z_p$. As a result, speedup for exponentiations on binary fields is 9.1% and speedup for scalar multiplications on Koblitz Curves is 12.1%.

This paper proposes full waveform inversion (FWI) for estimating the physical properties of a layered half-space. An FWI solution is obtained using a genetic algorithm (GA), which is a well-known global optimization approach. The dynamic responses of a layered half-space subjected to a harmonic vertical disk load are measured and compared with those calculated using the estimated physical properties. The responses are calculated using the thin-layer method, which is accurate and efficient for layered media. Subsequently, a numerical model is constructed for a layered half-space using mid-point integrated finite elements and perfectly matched discrete layers. An objective function of the global optimization problem is defined as the L2-norm of the difference between the observed and estimated responses. A GA is used to minimize the objective function and obtain a solution for the FWI. The accuracy of the proposed approach is applied to various problems involving layered half-spaces. The results verify that the proposed FWI based on a GA is suitable for estimating the material properties of a layered half-space, even when the measured responses include measurement noise.
Complex rock masses include various joint planes, bedding planes and other weak structural planes. The existence of these structural planes affects the mechanical properties, deformation rules and failure modes of jointed rock masses. To study the influence of the parameters of a nonpersistent joint network on the mechanical properties and failure modes of jointed rock masses, synthetic rock mass (SRM) technology based on discrete elements is introduced. The results show that as the size of the joints in the rock mass increases, the compressive strength and the discreteness of the rock mass first increase and then decrease. Among them, the joints that are characterized by "small but many" joints and "large and clustered" joints have the most significant impact on the strength of the rock mass. With the increase in joint density in the rock mass, the compressive strength of rock mass decreases monotonically, but the rate of decrease gradually decreases. With the increase in the joint dip angle in rock mass, the strength of the rock mass first decreases and then increases, forming a U-shaped change rule. In the analysis of the failure mode and deformation of a jointed rock mass, the type of plastic zone formed after rock mass failure is closely related to the macroscopic displacement deformation of the rock mass and the parameters of the joints, which generally shows that the location and density of the joints greatly affect the failure mode and displacement degree of the jointed rock mass. The instability mechanism of jointed surrounding rock is revealed.

In this study, nonlinear earthquake responses of a soil-structure interaction(SSI) system which is subjected to a three-directional ground motion are examined. The structure and the near-field region of soil, where the geometry is irregular, the material properties are heterogeneous, and nonlinear dynamic responses are expected, are modeled by nonlinear finite elements. On the other hand, the infinite far-field region of soil, which has a regular geometry and homogeneous material properties and dynamic responses is assumed linearly elastic, is represented by three-dimensional perfectly matched discrete layers which can radiate elastic waves into infinity efficiently. Nonlinear earthquake responses of the system subjected to a three-directional ground motion are calculated with the numerical model. It is observed that the dynamic responses of a SSI system to a three-directional motion have a predominant direction according to the characteristics of the ground motion. The responses must be evaluated using precise analysis methods which can consider nonlinear behaviors of the system accurately. The the method employed in this study can be applied easily to boundary nonlinear problems as well as material nonlinear problems.
A computational program [TDET] of the particle transport equation is developed on radiation shielding problem in two-dimensional cartesian geometry based on the discrete element method. Not like the ordinary discrete ordinates method, the quadrature set of angles is not fixed but steered by the spatially dependent angular fluxes. The angular dependence of the scattering source term in the particle transport equation is described by series expansion in spherical harmonics, and the energy dependence of the particles is considered as well. Three different benchmark tests are made for verification of TDET : For the ray effect analysis on a square absorber with a flat isotropic source, the results of TDET calculation are quite well conformed to those of MORSE-CG calculation while TDET ameliorates the ray effect more effectively than S$_{N}$ calculation. In the analysis of the streaming leakage through a narrow vacuum duct in a shield, TDET shows conspicuous and remarkable results of streaming leakage through the duct as well as MORSE-CG does, and quite better than S$_{N}$ calculation. In a realistic reactor shielding situation which treats in two cases of the isotropic scattering and of linearly anisotropic scattering with two groups of energy, TDET calculations show local ray effect between neighboring meshes compared with S$_{N}$ calculations in which the ray effect extends broadly over several meshes.eshes.
