  • This study investigated whether parental disciplinary practices mediated the status of peer acceptance. From a sample of 420 kindergarteners, twenty were classified as popular children and twenty were classified as rejected children using sociometric assessment and their parents(40 mothers and 40 fathers) were responded to a parental behavior questionnaire Results were as follows: 1. Compared to rejected children, popular children had fathers who participated more actively in child-rearing practices and mothers who were less overprotective in child-rearing practices. 2. Popular children had fathers who were more affectionate and more actively participated in child-rearing practices than mothers were, whereas rejected children had fathers who were more overprotective than mothers were. 3. Reasonable guidance made by parents was uniquely predictive of peer popularity, whereas parental overprotection was the best predictor for peer rejection.

  • Although juvenile delinquency has been continually decreasing, property and traffic crimes have been increasing. The age of delinquents or adolescent criminals are getting younger, and the number of female involved in delinquency or crimes has been increasing. The most frequently researched topic has been factors of causal effects on juvenile delinquency and development of counseling programs for the delinquents. Other studies have been investigating descriptive data, analyzing differences by sex, or categorizing delinquency behaviors by type, and suggesting political alternatives for restoration of juvenile delinquency. There have been several academic issues on the conceptual definition of delinquency, shift in research topics, and research methods. There have been further discussions on the imminent values of making relevant policies based on the results of multi-disciplinary research, developing the preventive and therapeutic programs and career counseling programs, and working with the experts from local communities.

  • Practical methodology for categorizing collaborative disciplines or research in a quantitative manner is presented by developing a Correlation Matrix of Major Disciplines (CMMD) using bibliometric data collected between 2009 and 2014. First, 21 major disciplines in science and engineering are defined based on journal publication frequency. Second, major disciplines using a comparing discipline correlation matrix is created and correlation score using CMMD is calculated based on an analyzer function that is given to the matrix elements. Third, a correlation between the major disciplines and 14 research fields using CMMD is calculated for validation. Collaborative researches are classified into three groups by partially accepting the definition of pluri-discipline from peer review manual, European Science Foundation, inner-discipline, inter-discipline and cross-discipline. Applying simple categorization criteria identifies three groups of collaborative research and also those results can be visualized. Overall, the proposed methodology supports the categorization for each research field.

  • Land (scape) ecology is a trans-disciplinary science studying the related systems at the earth surface, in their visual, structural and functional aspects. it serves as an umbrella under which abiotic and biotic sciences, in an integrated way, study the for each relevant land attributes and their interrelations. The spatial aspects of these relations have a special interest. Landscape ecology my have a pure scientific purpose, but usually is executed in an applied context, related to land evaluation for land use and conservation. Depending on the aim and application of the study, one of the land attributes may get special attention. Vegetation mapping may contribute to landscape ecological study but also benefit from it especially in case of reconnaissance surveys. This is because in less detailed surveys of any land attribute, like land form, soil, vegetation, one must necessarily apply landscape ecological principles in the survey methodology, including remote sensing.

  • This paper attempted to describe the relationships among agricultural extension, rural adult education and community development, which has developed as a disciplinary major (ag. extension in 1971, rural adult education in 1990 and community development in 1997) at the College of Agriculture and Life Science, Seoul National University. Reviewing the related literatures and observing the practical rural development in the Republic of Korea, conclusion was made in such a way that agricultural extension - rural adult education - community development be natural series of disciplinary development process as well as practical development in industrializing and urbanizing country like the Republic of Korea.

  • An integrated multi-disciplinary design system plays a critical role in the preliminary design of an aircraft. In this paper such system is developed for the multi-disciplinary computation and design; aerodynamics elasticity, and radio frequency stealth. Common data base of geometry and structured grids is generated and used for aerodynamic, structural and eletromagnetics analysis. The Navier-Stokes CFD, FEM, and CEM technique are used for aerodynamic, structural, and RF stealth computations respectively.

  • Biomedical engineering is a discipline where engineering principles and techniques are applied to the medical field. Biomedical engineering lies between traditional engineering and medicine and is an inter-disciplinary field in its nature. Current Korean undergraduate biomedical engineering curriculum is a simple list of traditional engineering courses combined with basic medical/life science courses. There have been efforts to improve biomedical engineering education to reflect its inter-disciplinary nature. Enhanced software course for biomedical engineering is proposed as a part of effort to overhaul the undergraduate biomedical engineering curriculum. In this newly proposed course, students will learn MATLAB and LabVIEW, which are the most widely used software tools in biomedical engineering.
