This study intends to clarify the characteristics and causes of current changes in wintertime precipitation in Korea and to predict the future directions based on surface observational $(1973/04\sim2006/07)$ and modeled (GFDL 2.1) climate data. Analyses of surface observation data demonstrate that without changes in the total amount of precipitation, snowfall in winter (November-April) has reduced by 4.3cm/decade over the $1973\sim2007$ period. Moreover, the frequency and intensity of snowfall have decreased; the duration of snow season has shortened; and the snow-to-rain day ratio (STDR) has decreased. These patterns indicate that the type of wintertime precipitation has changed from snow to rain in recent decades. The snow-to-rain change in winter is associated with the increases of air temperature (AT) over South Korea. Analyses of synoptic charts reveal that the warming pattern is associated with the formation of a positive pressure anomaly core over northeast Asia by a hemispheric positive winter Arctic Oscillation (AO) mode. Moreover, the differentiated warming of AT versus sea surface temperature (SST) under the high pressure anomaly core reduces the air-sea temperature gradient, and subsequently it increases the atmospheric stability above oceans, which is associated with less formation of snow cloud. Comparisons of modeled data between torrent $(1981\sim2000)$ and future $(2081\sim2100)$ periods suggest that the intensified warming with larger anthropogenic greenhouse gas emission in the $21^{st}$ century will amplify the magnitude of these changes. More reduction of snow impossible days as well as more abbreviation of snow seasons is predicted in the $21^{st}$ century.
In this study, the number of theses conducted in 1990's for the master's degree in mathematics education was investigated in terms of their fields and themes. These theses were analysed as to how much they had been studied according to the field and whether they had conformed to the expectations and requirements for research in mathematics education under the current educational curriculum. Futhermore, this study aimed to discover advancing directions of research in mathematics education. The results are as follows: First, the rate of annual thesis presentations decreased as many as 3.82% in 1994 compared with the previous year, but the rate increased steadily in the other years showing an overall annual average increase of 8.41%. Second, in the geographical distribution of thesis presentations among local provinces, Seoul represented the highest frequency at 41.13% and Cheju Island the lowest at 1.68%. When the annual thesis presentations were analysed among regions, their number increased steadily in Seoul, but fluctuated in most other regions. Third, regarding study themes, theses on mathematics education formed 70.91% of the total while those focusing on pure mathematics formed 29.09%. Among the theses of mathematics education, most were based on teaching curriculums and the least were based on education assessment. Among the theses on teaching curriculum, teaching analytics formed the highest rate. Theses on education technology, such as computerizing and computing, have shown to be increasing annually and formed 8.95% of the total in 1999. The study also indicated that especially in the late 1990's, there have been many designed programs based on the Web, like JAVA and CGI, and studies on teaching and teaming methods using the internet.
The ephemeral and temporal nature of pavilions is the underlying motivation that led to the development of this paper. From the beginning of the industrial era through contemporary history, there have been many instances of architects attempting to rethink architectural design in the context of modern social, cultural, and technical imperatives. Today, the leading changes in humanity are accompanied by a revolutionary electronic digital medium. The pavilion has been in an amalgamation of architectural integration since the beginning of human history. World's Fairs/Expos have, since their establishment, served as international presentations of goods and achievements of particular nations. They became a popular stage wherein potential architectural achievements were showcased through the evocative architecture of pavilions. Due to the pavilion's "temporary nature," its coverage includes various perspectives: social, historical, geographical, post-colonial, iconographical, temporal, and ephemeral. It has also served as a receptacle due to its representational value at a given time. The pavilion has offered architectural designers, clients, and visitors a place to use their imaginations. Moreover, the architect's role in creating pavilions cannot be overestimated. Due to fact that they abound in symbolism, contemporary designs, and innovative solutions, pavilions often mirror modern mankind and plan for the next aesthetic revolutions and ideological architectural theories. To understand and appreciate architects' original intentions with their pavilions, this paper focuses on noteworthy pavilions that were created from the beginning of industrialization through the present. It explores and discusses the pavilion's characteristics, highlights the significance of its physical form as generated by a specific theme.

The research investigates the identification of necessary geographic information needed by forest fire suppression helicopter pilots, and the ways to acquire the required information from public institutions. Firefighting helicopter pilots demand 7 physical geographic and 13 human geographic data. Applying the geographical information acquired from Korean public institutions, the following 15 characteristics (3 physical geographic, 12 human geographic) can be found: altitude and highlands, river, high population and urban areas, roads, national park and state boundaries, fuel re-supply facilities, freshwater areas, cultural assets, (LPG)gas charging stations, gas stations, ammunition storage areas, ground power cables, and steel towers. Within the database of physical geography, there is a need for improvement on bird habitat details. Also, the availability of visibility, wind directions, and wind velocity data is limited and therefore requires refining. The location of refueling areas can be obtained by applying information received from institutions to the GIS spatial analysis.

In this study, traditional markets were classified into two categories-urban or rural. This paper presents a case study of the Tongin market in Seoul and the Bongwha market in North Gyeongsang Province. Based on a survey of the customers and local residents in these markets, the peoples who have intention to show visitors around their traditional markets take more pride as local residents than peoples who do not have intention to show visitors around their traditional markets. This study includes surveys in 24 categories dealing with how local residents recognize the traditional market as regards local community, local culture and local economy. Consequently, the customers of the Tongin market and the Bongwha market had very strong expectations that their traditional markets would be popular with visitors. These surveys show that when these traditional markets were reported in the press and media, the satisfaction level of local residents was very high. Most of the respondents said that the more the local traditional market develops, the more the region develops. And, most of the respondents said that all local residents have to cooperate to develop a traditional market. To promote traditional markets that can revitalize communities, marketplaces need to be regarded as places that contain human life. In addition, there needs to a cultural and humane perspective brought to the fore. To conclude, the most effective way to solve the problem of traditional markets is to make them even more traditional.

The purpose of this study is to find the effects of triple helix model on the firm innovation, especially focused on the moderating effects of trust in Daegu Gyeongbuk. There are two ways of triple helix interactions in Korea. One is a traditional triple helix interaction in which entrepreneurial universities have a central role. As the other way, such 3rd-sector type organizations as technoparks have a important role in facilitating the triple helix interactions. We collected data from 231 firms located in the Daegu-Gyeongbuk region. According to the findings, firstly, 3rd-sector type organizations such as technoparks have a positive(+) effect on the firm innovation. But a traditional triple helix interaction has not. Secondly, a 3rd-sector type support has much more positive(+) effects on the firm innovation than a traditional triple helix interaction. Thirdly, the trust has a positive(+) moderating effect on the firm innovation in the two-type of the triple helix interactions. In the conclusion, research implication, limitation of this study, and future directions are suggested.
This paper explores critically and historically some of the popular academic views concerning the development of the study of Southeast Asia through the lens of the contributions of particular scholars and institutions. Within the broad field of Southeast Asian Studies the focus is on the disciplines of geography, history and ethnology. There are certain views concerning the development of scholarship on Southeast Asia which continue to surface and have acquired, or are in the process of acquiring "mythical" status. Among the most enduring is the claim that the region is a post-Second World War construction primarily arising from Western politico-strategic and economic preoccupations. More specifically, it is said that Southeast Asian Studies for a considerable period of time has been subject to the American domination of this field of scholarship, located in programs of study in such institutions as Cornell, Yale and California, Berkeley, and, within those institutions, focused on particular scholars who have exerted considerable influence on the directions which research has taken. Another is that, based on the model or template of Southeast Asian Studies (and other area studies projects) developed primarily in the USA, it has distinctive characteristics as a scholarly enterprise in that it is multidisciplinary, requires command of the vernacular, and assigns special importance to what has been termed 'groundedness' and historical, geographical and cultural contextualization; in other words, a Southeast Asian Studies approach as distinct from disciplinarybased studies addresses local concerns, interests, perspectives and priorities through in-depth, on-the-ground, engaged scholarship. Finally, views have emerged that argue that a truly Southeast Asian Studies project can only be achieved if it is based on a set of locally-generated concepts, methods and approaches to replace Western ethnocentrism and intellectual hegemony.

To obtain geographical range and growth-kinetics parameters of mottled sake (Beringraja pulchra) populations in the Yellow Sea, three mark-recapture experiments were carried out. Overall, 991 tagged individuals were released, and 4.1% of them were recaptured with the mean release period of 339 d (range, 8-1,420 d) and the mean growth rate of $1.4cm\;mon^{-1}$ (female, $1.5cm\;mon^{-1}$; male $1.3cm\;mon^{-1}$). In the first experiment, 667 individuals were released at Heuksan Island from April to June, 2007-2009, and 30 individuals were recaptured mainly at the north and the north-east coasts of the island, indicating absence of migration to the south of the island. In the second experiment, 323 individuals were released at several fishing grounds scattered in the Yellow Sea in 2010-2013, and 11 individuals were recaptured at points deviated to all directions from the releasing points. As the last, one individual was released with pop-up satellite archival tag at a costal point ($34^{\circ}37.2$'N, $124^{\circ}59.3$'E) off Hong Island on May 21, 2010. The tagged individual migrated to a north-east location ($35^{\circ}50.4$'N, $126^{\circ}03.6$'E) of Eocheong Island by Aug. 25, 2010. The data archived for the three months in the tag indicated that the migration path had depths of 48-80 m and temperature of $12.6-14.4^{\circ}C$. The results indicated that mottled sake populations had a localized habitat ranges at the north of Heuksan Island and the west of Hong Island while growing at the rate of $1.4cm\;mon^{-1}$.
This research addresses global status of Korean media firms and their future directions. Mapping of major international media firms all over the world is used in order to explain global status fully. In the four categories that classified media firms using Forbes Global 2000 mapping, all Korean media firms are included in the fourth group, which is the weakest in terms of global competitiveness. Therefore, it is essential to trace appropriate global strategy from the media industry value chain that has competence. This paper finds out that Korea has advantage in the contents, terminal, and next generation networks. That means alliance strategies of contents-terminal-next generation network have advantage to evolve into global media firms. Moreover, Korean media companies should adopt selection and concentration strategy in terms of geographical expansion. As Korea's broadcasting and game contents are already popular in Asian and Latin American regions, they would better to enter the emerging markets. In so doing, terrestrial broadcasters and game service providers should lead the way.

A feng-shui map(山圖) represents the most ideal natural landform on a map of feng-shui space model, highlighting propitious spots and grave sites in terms of feng-shui. This study made an analysis into feng-shui maps featured in the Chinese feng-shui manual Jiriinjasuji published in the Ming dynasty of China and did research on the following points regarding the traits of landform expressions: viewpoints of feng-shui maps, perspective points, center-oriented maps, double map scales, mountain theories, detailed expressions of propitious spots, etc. The major characteristics of landform expressions in the Chinese feng-shui manual Jiriinjasuji are as follows: the viewpoint technique was aerial one; the maps were center-oriented, that is to say, the center of grave sites or propitious spot was depicted in detail; and often the important terrains around grave sites were exaggerated or delete compared with real landforms. In addition, other vital landforms not observed from grave sites were depicted with viewpoints moved and were represented in greater details' The part of mountain theories had the following points as their main subject matter: geographical locations, overall orientations of mountain ranges, topographical traits, grave seat directions, surrounding terrains and extent of fortune-bringing. The directions of the maps were relative and there was no definite concept of scales. But, there are many cases where the maps made use of the double scale technique when expressing the terrains that have propitious space, logistical cities or directional importance. Furthermore, they often utilized multiple scale in expressing near views, mid-range views and distant views.
